Little is known of their origin, although tradition states that they came from the east. . . . - H. Contact: hesiden@stoner.com The Seekers (40) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *CRACK* *CRACK* *CRACK* Fountains of water sprayed the air due to the mea make-o-hekili, the thunder weapons, of the haolewaa, the foreigner's ship. The man next to Ikaika tumbled, half overboard. His head, now in the water was split by a rock thrown by the mea make-o-hekili. "Let's go back; we can not win. Hihimanu shall surely be sunk by the time we reach the haole waa." Argued Kahele. "No we must show the haole that they cannot take us for dupes or simpletons. They must pay a price for their arrogance no matter what the alii nui says." Ikaika replied. "Look even now, their weapons mask their vision." Indeed, as they debated, the smoke created by the mea make-o-hekili when it fired had been blown by a light breeze. The bulk of the haole waa was now obscured by smoke except for the tops of the three masts and the crossed red and blue flag . "Steer hard right. There - towards that squall." Ikaika commanded. "It will mask us after the smoke clears, then we will approach the haole waa in the storm. Kanaloa shield us!" Ikaika and the small crew of the Hihimanu steered into the wind. And then into the squall just as the smoke unmasked the haole waa. Through the drizzle of the storm Ikaika could see the flag and even barely make out the red-coated haole puali. The enemy had unrigged their sails so the ship would not toss and turn in the squall and so that the sails would not rip. But the sails of the Hihimanu were thick and sturdy. With all his strength and skill, Aha kept a zig-zag cours towards the haole waa. *CRACK* . . . *CRACK* The mea make-o-hekili fired. But this time the storm conditions skewed their aim as their platform rocked and the weapons became wet. *CRACK* And then. *CRUNCH* As the cannon ripped its wetted tether in the recoil and plunged throught the wall behind. But, Ikaika and the Hihimanu's crew did not know this. The two ships met violently. Soon, the Hihimanu's crew secured the small catamaran to the haole waa and prepared to board. "Attention!" shouted Aha and he pointed. There just ahead of the two ships lay a whirlpool wide and violent. "Auwe! Release the haole waa! Paddle with all you your strength!" Even as he said this, Ikaika could feel the vessel being pulled into the funnel. "Kanaloa grants us a favor by taking the haole waa, but exacts a tax even so. Such is the way of the gods. 17 for two hundred is a good deal." The two vessels slid further into the whirlpool and and were soon pummeled with raging water. Masts, planks, and men swirled all around A plank struck Ikaika into a concussion, sparing him from a drowning death It was dark. Not like night, but like a total absence of light. Ikaika knew he must be in Kanaloa's domain. He could sense rather than see the presence of Kanaloa and knew that his attention was on Ikaika. He waited. Minutes? Hours? Days? Years? Time, it seemed did not exist here. At least not as he knew it. -What now?- He thought as he could no longer speak for lack of a mouth. -Go now. You have more to do before you are judged.- Answered someone. Kanaloa? -We are dying now as a whole. It is up to you to revive us. In another world. In another time. Seek out the light and abhore darkness, but mainly, you must preserve your heritage as it is no longer preserved in your previous world.- A small doorway appeared and he walked through. He stepped into another void, but in this one he could see and here. He had a shell as well as a spirit. There were people here, too. There was a sense of determination among most. Others had the visage of a mano, a man-eater, bent on conquest and with an insatiable blood lust. And yet others reminded him of the haole that talked gently then plotted to strip people of their land and the fruits of their labors. There were six doors - shimmering, vivid - displaying scenes of cities in rolling plains, magnificent peaks, and a wind-swept desert. It dazzled Ikaika. But as this was a new life for him, he could no longer retain his name until he won back his honor. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Och hur mnga svenska spelare finns det i det hr spelet d? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ A new beginning! The sun is shining and a dull, throbbing head-ache is trying to get my attention from figuring out where to go. Oh, those plains look awfully nice. Lots of horses, grain, livestock and tax money. Or will those with a will to good and cooperation win in the end? Isn't that the fun of these games. In their visions, they have seen the leader of the=20 nation, the High King of Essedail, come down to the land from the=20 legendary place Atlantis Nexus to meet with his nation in Atlantis. The mayor of Helsicke, Will E=B4Doyall has regarded this visions as=20 "dreams caused by the clerics' fantasy" and no action has been taken at this point. Yet, some reports have come to the city guards, that there has been a=20 lot of elves sighted a few days ride from Helsicke, not showing any=20 signs of being hostile, but with the direction straight towards the city of Helsicke. This truly is interresting news. The elves united again in one great=20 nation. I never hoped that this would come true in my lifetime. What=20 would be the correct step for me at this point?=20 That would of course be to arrange a meeting with the Great King of=20 Essedail. Large alliances claim everything, as usual, and will make it as hard as possible for anyone to pass through their lands. Thank Geoff for gate lore! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dear Editor, It has come to my attention that there is a complete lack of facilities in this town of Nexus. In the past the powers that be would never have stationed 120 proud fighting men in a place with no public conveniences. What is this world coming to? New Atlantis Assassins Guild (faction 4) bpest1+@pitt.edu ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Somewhere... unknown. Sometime... unclear. Certainly later than last we peeked into the bubble, where a number of Atlantis 1 survivors were stranded, at least for the moment. At first, glad to have escaped from the forces of Vox, the raptors, the ghouls, their confinement didn't disturb them much. Later, they learned that they could spy on events in another world, the world they dubbed Atlantis 2 - for after all, it was only the second solid region they knew of. That provided temporary distraction. Try as they might, their technicians and mages could not break through the barriers they had constructed themselves to shield them from the flux in which they drifted. Atlantis 2 drifted out of sight on the ethereal tides. More recently, the closeness, and the overwhelming monotony of their surroundings, began to take their toll. Minor tiffs became screamfests, then fistfights. There had been two murders, and their leaders meted out harsh justice to the killers. Bodies piled in the meat locker - they hadn't foreseen the need to dispose of corpses when the bubble was designed. Now, Atlantis 3 had been found. Many were in favor of moving into this new world immediately. But their leaders insisted on caution. Time enough in a month, in three months, to relocate ourselves. Once out of the bubble, there was a good chance they could not return. Perhaps a scout should be sent out first... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hmmm ... where did all those grunts go? Lots 'o leaders, but nobody else. I know! Aliens got 'em! Call the FBI! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The gentle proding awakened him from his slumber. "Yes", he mumbled. "Awake, Starfire", the Voice said. He snapped awake at the voice of his leige. "Yes, my Lord. How long have I slept?" "Since the last mission. I have a new mission for you", the Voice said. "Yes, my Lord". "Aren't you the least bit curious to what it is? And DON'T say 'Yes, my Lord'!", the Voice replied. "Yes, my... Sorry, Sir", Starfire answered, "What is my mission?" "It has come to my attention that a new world has formed. This world is called Atlantis 3. The Other's and I are curious to what this place is. Your mission is to discover the secret of this place. You are to explore this world and gather knowledge from the inhabitants. There may also be representatives of other beings. Learn what you can from them. For Knowledge is Power. And We can always use Power. Any questions?" "Yes. When do I leave?" "Now, Of Course", the Voice replied. His vision began to clear. He heard voices around him. He seemed to be standing in a large Nexus with many other beings. Many were clustered in groups, whispering about their plans for conquest. Other's seemed to be overwhelmed by the sights. As he watched, one of the beings ran for one of the six giant gates. With a flash the being was gone! The other's seeing this, began running to the different gates and disappearing. Realizing that he was being left behind, he quickly decided and ran toward one of the towering gates. What waited for him on the other side? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ A cowled figure ponders what to do. Already trouble had started in the Nexus. Groups had formed to claim as yet unexplored lands. Perhaps the none too subtle warnings were mere bravado, but Nursie could not take that risk and strike out into the lands adjoining the cities alone. Her responsibilities were much to important for that. And there were other options. In a few short months a longboat could be built and a crew assembled. True, this would strain her small store of silver, but the promise of rich and unclaimed lands would surely repay the investment. Perhaps even a few paying passengers could be found to defray expenses and share the tedium of the voyage. Or there was always Gatelore. The Holy Book hinted that travel to distant lands was simple for those who learned the secrets of gate system. It might even be possible to take a few friends. But Nursie distrusted magic, the dark powers it controls too often corrupts those who use them. Nursie wheeled the pram to towards one of the gates. She would decide what to do when she reached Riggenthorpe. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Atlantis Nexus (AP) - And a New Sun Shines Upon the Land "The fog lifted, and the world was new." These words from one of the many people who awoke to find themselves in the Atlantis Nexus summarized the feelings many shared as they pondered their new circumstances. Most of those questioned, including this reporter, had fleeting memories of an earlier life, in which grand battles were fought and massive empires were built. But a few had no idea how they came to be in this magical place, nor could they remember who they were. But in the end it doesn't matter, as everyone here must go forth and build for themselves a new life and a new name, under the shining new sun of Atlantis. (Editor's Note: To those of you unfamiliar with the AP symbol, it represents "Atlantis Press", a contingent of reporters who will be bringing news and information to you each month from every corner of the globe (or cylinder, or whatever shape our new world may be!!!). ) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I get $50 just for sending this in? I need a job like this in real life! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Here we go again, anyone out there want to take bets and odds on how many restarts there are in the first 5 turns? I say half of the factions will restart at least 1 time by turn 5. What do you say. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ And away we go. The are just out of the starting gate and they are making a mad dash for the plains, what do they find? 2 giants 8 factions restart. (hahahahahahahaha!) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I'm going to tell you a story about this secret society one that doesn't exist until you feel the bite of its cold steel. Keep your eyes on your turn reports they will start saying unit xxx assassinated. You have been warned if you come to the south plains you will be summarily executed with out prior permission. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Welcome one and all to the opening of a grand new world. Aside from a half dozen instant alliances, we have little information on how things will turn out. So let the fun begin. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ There's gold in them there hills and we aim on taking it. Or will they take on the individual factions first while setting up their own pieces of empire? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ here's hoping I'm doing this right or I won't get 50 silver! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The beginning of the road has a lot of bumps in it. I look forward to exploring the realms of magic. Rangers [106] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ It is the dawning of a new age for the old and nearly-wise Idiot Proof Clan. No mistake can be made, the newly discovered Atlantis continent will soon be flooded by eager settlers from the old world. Over-crowding may be a problem in the gate cities, but the nearly 30000 hexes which make up the continent, will allow all to control large expanses of land in perfect harmony with their neighbors... with the possible exception of the large alliances which already can smell blood. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hmm.... Where to begin.... Where to begin... I guess the beginning would be appropriate.. It all started during a cold and chilly winter eve. I was huddled in front of the fire reading a sword and sorcery novel, when suddenly I felt overcome by a strange presence. I started experience thoughts that were not my own, memories that were not my own, dreams that were not my own. When the spasm, or whatever, had passed for some unaccountable reason I had a strong desire to leave, depart, go somewhere... At the time, I wasn't sure where that somewhere would be. --To be continued-- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Atlantis Academy of Magic The Mercenary Mages are pleased to announce they are open for business. It is this factions hope to create Atlantis 3's first Academy of Magic. When construction is complete the Academy will offer tuition in all magical skills and spells. For a small fee students will have access to the finest instruction in the whole of Atlantis. Interested? Watch this space or email the Mercenary Mages directly at - rab@mostro.demon.co.uk ------------------------------------------------------------------------ My! This world is much larger than the last! I wonder if it's still cylindrical? Well, off to find out! Hmm.... How will we ever have a good war with this much room to roam in? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Charles looked over the six exits. There were large crowds in fron of each of them. Some people were shouting at the gathering crowds to stay away from this exit of great harm may come. Make them slaves then quickly kill them? Not an efficient use for slaves. They should be made to build monuments to the master's power. Others were welcoming people to come with them; often through the same exit that was threatened. The whole thing seemed like a crap shoot to Charles and that gave him an idea. He made a cube and labeled each side with an exit's name. Then he tossed it and proceded to the exit shown on the top of the cube.
