Rules ----- All factions within the walls of Atlantis City will be safe from harm as long as you can abide by the following guidelines : * No attacks on other factions! - Any attacks within the city will be dealt with MOST SEVERELY. - Do not attack other units or you will be massacred before you have the chance to flee from your actions. (ATTACK comes before MOVE) - Atlantis City is a haven for new factions so no harm should befall any faction whilst within the walls of the city. - The NPR are effectively taking over the role of the city guard. * Stealling and Assassinations are NOT to be tolerated. - Covert Operations such as stealling and assassination attempts will result in the immediate expulsion of that faction from the Haven that is Atlantis City. - Failure to remove yourself from the city will result in SEVERE punishment. - The NPR has its own wing of Covert Operatives, so any such action seen by our Observers will result in the CO's becoming active! - We have eyes all over the city - we know who you are!!! * Factions giving us any cause for suspicion will be asked to immediately cease operations, or will again be under SEVERE punishment. - Any factions developing armed forces within the walls of the city without authorisation, will be contacted and politely informed of their obligation to City-wide harmony. Any breach in this rule will again result in immediate expulsion or SEVERE punishment. - We are imposing a limit of 20 HEL maximum that may be trained in any of the combat skills ; Combat, Longbow, or Crossbow. * Factions employing sorcery must NOT use their talents for unlawful gains. - Using your talents for combat or theft will not be tolerated. - Sorcerer's, Wizards, Witches and Magi will be asked if they need any assistance, and how they could be of use to the NPR. Sponsorship MAY be an option! All factions will be unharmed so long as they abide by the rules laid down above. Faction Allowances ------------------ The NPR are now controlling the income of the City, so we have to impose restrictions on Work Forces. All factions in AC are hereby restricted to a maximum of 50 HEL as a work-force, although certain factions will be permitted to have a minor excess of this allowance. We have decided that 50 High Elves are more than enough for most faction types. All factions, regardless of faction type, will be restricted to this amount. [Any more than this limit will attract our attention and possible displeasure]. Some factions may be employing a couple of Magic Users, but they will require no more than 48 High Elves to maintain their Magi, and these troops can be trained as and when necessary to meet your own ends. (Generic factions require only 24 HEL to maintain a Mage) (Magic Combination factions require only 48 HEL to maintain their Magi) The only exceptions to the rule may lie in the Pure Magic Factions. In order to maintain 5 Mages, the High Elf resources needed amount to 120 HEL. However, we cannot permit such a large work force to be assembled whilst in Atlantis City. We are hoping that those factions will help us come to an agreement over their excesses in resources, and their possible future within the city! Atlantis City Services ---------------------- Certain Factions have been valuable to the populous of AC and these factions will be given "Keys to the City" or KC's. * Zarya Guilde (Atlantis Spells Exchange) will be given the option to continue operations. (KC). - Newbies should still be allowed the free exchange of information provided by Jiri Klouda and the Atlantis Spells Exchange. The NPR hope that Jiri will continue this service in the future. Any breach in this rule will again result in immediate expulsion or SEVERE punishment. - We are imposing a limit of 20 HEL maximum that may be trained in any of the combat skills ; Combat, Longbow, or Crossbow. * Factions employing sorcery must NOT use their talents for unlawful gains. - Using your talents for combat or theft will not be tolerated. - Sorcerer's, Wizards, Witches and Magi will be asked if they need any assistance, and how they could be of use to the NPR. Sponsorship MAY be an option! All factions will be unharmed so long as they abide by the rules laid down above. Faction Allowances ------------------ The NPR are now controlling the income of the City, so we have to impose restrictions on Work Forces. All factions in AC are hereby restricted to a maximum of 50 HEL as a work-force, although certain factions will be permitted to have a minor excess of this allowance. We have decided that 50 High Elves are more than enough for most faction types. All factions, regardless of faction type, will be restricted to this amount. [Any more than this limit will attract our attention and possible displeasure]. Some factions may be employing a couple of Magic Users, but they will require no more than 48 High Elves to maintain their Magi, and these troops can be trained as and when necessary to meet your own ends. (Generic factions require only 24 HEL to maintain a Mage) (Magic Combination factions require only 48 HEL to maintain their Magi) The only exceptions to the rule may lie in the Pure Magic Factions. In order to maintain 5 Mages, the High Elf resources needed amount to 120 HEL. However, we cannot permit such a large work force to be assembled whilst in Atlantis City. We are hoping that those factions will help us come to an agreement over their excesses in resources, and their possible future within the city! Atlantis City Services ---------------------- Certain Factions have been valuable to the populous of AC and these factions will be given "Keys to the City" or KC's. * Zarya Guilde (Atlantis Spells Exchange) will be given the option to continue operations. The City guards looked nervous as the two sides started readying weapons. Crossbow and longbow troops stood behind the front line ready to release their deadly missiles. The enemy has more armor but is outnumbered, plus some of the knights had been given gloves that make them killing machines. The best assassin a war or trade faction can produce has stealth at level 5. This is easily countered by having an observer of level 5 in all critical regions. A magic faction can have a mage who is casting "shadow form" every turn as an assassin. Because the spell is instantaneous and costs nothing, once a mage has this spell is will be cast every turn. A level 5 observer can only see the mage if the mage's stealth is 2 or less. A level 5 observer with a helm of observation can see a mage with stealth of 4 or less. A mage with stealth 5 is invisible. We can assume that the invisible mage assassin will have skills stealth 5, combat 5, ethereal 5. It will also possess gloves of strength and a magic/mithril sword. This gives the assassin 5 attacks at combat level 11; typically a sure kill (97% chance best case - 76% worst). What can be done against such a "super assassin"? 1. Have level 5 observers with helms of observation everywhere. That will stop all the assassins that are not level 5 in stealth. 2. Give critical units a magic/mithril sword and gloves of strength. Study to level 5 in combat. This reduces the odds of a kill to 76%. 3. Change the unit number of critical leaders (form and give orders). Keep unskilled leaders around as dummy targets. Keep the assassins guessing. 4. Have critical units study stealth to level 5. This requires the assassin to have observation 5 in addition to the other skills. 5. Train faster. A mature faction can produce tactics 5 men faster than a magic faction can assassinate them. Annoying but effective. A magic faction can train all mages to use the "shadow form" spell themselves so the assassins cannot even see them. 6. Blizzard. Annoying but keeps the bad guys out. 7. Kill all units belonging to an assassin's guild. They can only support two assassins on the $50 from a time's submission. Kill all units caught attempting to steal/assassinate; don't give them a second chance. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I AM REALLY ANGRY. THE CHURCH OF THE PURPLE SNOWFLAKE KILLED THE BIRDS. They were more peacefully than you can imagine. God damn this faction and all its allies who kill such units. Now the PCP are the object of scorn and ridicule for their (apparently) failed military endeavors. Lots of people were afraid of the Reservoir Dogs. Now it looks like the Dogs have gotten beaten on more than one front, and are cowering behind the skirts of the Kingdom of Prettstern. (And biting at Prettstern's ankles while doing so, to judge from the complaints in recent Times articles.) The Kingdom of Prettstern was intimidating in its strength. Now it seems that some faction with an unpronouncible name has beaten back this mighty kingdom when it tried to grab land. IUN seems to be waxing strong at the moment. But how long will it last? It looks like that Atlantis 2 is reaching a state of unstable equilibrium, where large alliances are assembled, beat up on their neighbors for a number of turns, then overextend themselves and fade back into relative obscurity. Not that this bothers me... Do yourself a favor, PCP, take that path and save your army. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ An Argument Against the World being Inside a Cylinder If the realms of Atlantis were to reside on the inside of a cylinder, as hypothesized in earlier times articles, then one would be able to see great distances along portions inside the cylinder that are curved - making it possible to map vast regions from a single vantage point. As we all know, however, one can only see areas that are very close. If this hypothesis is to remain, then there must be another cylinder *inside* the outer one that blocks or distorts vision over these great distances. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ This just in... For mapping it, the Enquirer program will be used and, when finished, the full map will be uploaded to a anonymous ftp site, but this will take a bit 'cos atlantis 2.0 is not a small place.
