I tried to keep myself in check and keep then nice and small. Also, I have begun hooking player pages into the Atlantis 3.0 page, starting with the Articles of Confederation. Lastly, there is a slight rules amendment: Riding can now only be used to escape attack if the attacked unit is not inside a building, ship, or other structure. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Big Al looked around. Time to head out and see this new world... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ PEACE BREAKS OUT IN REMOTE MOUNTAIN REGION In a remarkable turn of events, 47 factions set foot in the city of Helsicke in February, year 1. Unlike other regions of Atlantis, however, there was a stern resolve of the multitude of factions to arrange peaceful settlement of the region, despite claims by some that "Helsicke" means "Hell" in certain languages. Rapid action was taken by The Cherokee Nation and The Fist of the White Lotus, members of the Celestial Order and Brotherhood of Republics of Atlantis, to establish diplomatic ties in the region. Agreements were reached between the two large alliances, 4 smaller alliances, and numerous independent factions. "Well, it seems that the mountains have attracted people desiring peace and quiet. And everyone's determined to have peace even if it is a little crowded." Proclaimed Brotherhood faction leader. "Constant communication is important to keeping peaceful relations and we have been doing this since day 1 of our arrival." The current agreement has the United Factions, the largest of the alliances in Helsicke, controlling the land regions to the north and northwest of Helsicke, while the Celestial Order and Brotherhood of Republics of Atlantis will control the land regions to the south and southwest of Helsicke. The smaller alliances have decided to sail out of Helsicke or have negotiated free passage with the Brotherhood. Plans are underway for joint study and production on several projects. Several members of the alliances have expressed a welcome to new factions that might come to the area. Early ideas at the joint Helsicke Shipyards is that new factions could be able to buy or charter boats, or even rent space on a liner. "Factions in Helsicke or those that intend to come here in the future should probably contact either the Celestial Order and Brotherhood of Republics of Atlantis or the United Factions." Said a local official. "They are the two large alliances in the region and both show cooperativity. Several local factions and alliances have expressed with regret that they have had their pigeons turned back at the pigeon distribution center of the ruler of the United Factions, Mr. Smith of Mostly Harmless. They say that if you wish to contact him, please be sure to try repeatedly for several days. We recognize that it is not a factor of delayed bargaining on the part of the UF, but a problem with their mail distribution system." She smiled, for she was pleased. The work had come out quite well. It was a banner, one she planned to present to the other leaders of the alliance during the general meeting that evening. She had spent all month working on it, but now it was finished. At the center of the design was a magnificent winged serpent, its scales adorned with tracings in red and gold thread, its extended wings, and fleshy hood, hilighted with earthtones and silver thread. The serpent stood coiled at the peak of a mountain summit, the view falling back into a extensive range of cliffs and snow-capped ridges to either side. A nightscape appears to the serpent's right. Small gems woven into the black fabric provide a star filled sky. At ground level, red and gold thread again suggests a campfire, or perhaps a ceremonial bonfire, burning in the distance. To the serpent's left, it is dawn, as the great Atlantean sun rises behind a majestic castle set on a plateau. Below the castle a sleepy town can be seen, its modest port opening onto the waters of a bay. The entire design is hemmed by a border of silk and silver thread on black, embroidered to appear as a snake skin, recently shed but in pristine condition, wrapped around such that its head rests upon the tip of its tail. The skin is divided equally into eleven segments, separated by a centimeter or so of black. The High King has ordered his son to gather the elven forces in and around Helsicke for the journey, which he speaks of a lot. I still do not know where this journey is going, but I completely trust the King. Though, I have found out that we are to travel by sea, because there has been nightly activity in the City's shipyard. Don't be so fast to accuse people of crimes. Now, in a few turns, if you STILL can't see my faction name, then you might get a bit suspicious. But in the meantime, making wild accusations will only get people mad. And getting people mad can get you KILLED. Think before you point fingers next time. In two turns, there will be so many units in and around Helsicke it will take a spreadsheet to keep them all straight. Unlike many other gate cities, Helsicke is inhabited by experienced and reasonable leaders who are attempting to establish a peaceful development and scouting plan. So far, the talks are going well as representatives from the United Factions (UF), the Majestic Democracy of Urium (MDU), and COBRA have met on several occaisions to discuss futures plans for their member factions, who constitute around 75% of all factions in Helsicke. The MDU representative, Kendor of the Shadow Circle, summarized the feelings of the three representatives, "It's almost like we've met before... we seem to be able to trust one another implicitly and that has allowed our plans to develop rapidly. Who knows? Perhaps we'll even continue to work closely together in the future, making our groups a sort of 'mega-alliance'.
