INTERSTELLAR NEWS BRIEFS

DATELINE Earth, July 4 - Over 1 billion native Terrans celebated an
ancient
North American rite of freedom by exploding several hundred million small
explosives. The holiday celebrates independence from a long dead
oppressive
government that once dominated old Earth. Approximately 15,000 persons
were
injured or killed, many of whom lost one or more limbs during the
festivities.
Sales of alcohol, drugs and ammunition rose significantly for the week
prior
to the excitement, and additional security troopers were called in to
curtail
excessive violence and mayhem.

DATELINE Kochab, July 7 - The death of T'Alok Gorastin of Draak, Gecko
President and leader of the homeworld, was mourned today by the entire
Gecko
population. Funeral services were held after the traditional lamenting of
Gecko women, which can last up to 4 weeks. Dignitaries from most species
were
present, including a small, unimpressive delegation from Earth, but many
Gecko
were angry that the Emperor was not there. "This not be boding goodly for
Terrans!" claimed one security guard in the fureral party. Even as
earthlings
celebrated an ancient independence rite in North America, numerous high
officials of the planet Kochab were extremely vocal about the need for
independence from The Empire and a complete break from trade with all
Terrans.
