Another Quest Digest wings its way | __/DITORIAL to you, this time from Sutton Coldfield as opposed to \___| to Durham. I had hoped to be able to tell you my new email address in this edition, but that will have to wait until next time. Suffice to say it's a Pipex one... I'm sure the suspense won't kill you! Thank you to those that have sent in inclusions for the Digest, and sorry it's a couple of days late. Certainly better than my game newsletter which has _just_ printed messages I sent early May! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 28 Jun 1996 09:42:18 -0700 From: "S. One day strikes don't really affect > your returns. > > JPG> Good point. :) SM> It might be a good point, but only when KJC remember to check their email. I play in G12 and sent orders to KJC along with orders for It's A Crime and Extra Time (Playtest). The only thing I have had back is about the Extra Time, and that was to say that I hadn't sent in any orders !!! How often do they check they're email ??? Once in a blue moon ?? Also, any chance of getting hold of any email address for people in G12 ??? JPG> Re: the email addresses, it was a bit difficult to keep track of what games everone was in, so people will have to get in touch with you, Scott, if they're in the game. About the KJC email address, are you trying the compuserve or the orders@kjcgames.com address? The latter gets checked more often, I am lead to believe, but there have been recent problems with the address due to computers being pinched (not at KJC hq though!). These problems shouldn't reoccur, I am told. It is also said that KJC check their email twice a day. Bear in mind the postal strikes and how late they made first class post. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: PSykes6420@aol.com (Philip Sykes) Date: Sat, 29 Jun 1996 00:43:41 -0400 PS> One of my groups stayed at the Alliance HQ with 9117 gold and got robbed of 820 of it. Is this supposed to happen? I thought Alliance HQ's were safe! PS> I recently EMailed a turn in to KJC and, after waiting a week with no reply, I EMailed the turn in again, only to have it sent back to me as returned mail from justin@talk-101.com with the explanation that it `exceeded the hop count'. PS> Can anyone tells me what this means? Has anyone else had this problem? PS> I have EMailed many similar turns in to KJC previously with no problems. JPG> I believe it was to do with the problems of computers being pinched somewhere down the line. The network kept trying to deliver it, but gave up after a while because there was nowhere to deliver it to. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 2 Jul 1996 19:47:50 +0100 (BST) From: Allan Hooper <A.O.Hooper@herts.ac.uk> > RJT> Fighter skill also goes up through combat (about every 10 hits if > your melee skill is 100%) AH> Actually the number of hits in combat has nowt to do with it. The best things to attack to gain fighters skill is something you cant actually hit in melee. Just be prepared to take the abuse from the monster. > Why can't the prog be changed to take the bank account upto 50000 and > leave the balance on the party members. AH> And tell the players in the blurb about the limit to avoid groups losing money and players wasting orders (and money). JPG> Apologies for not creating a list of the suggested bugs as yet. It will happen... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Roy.Thomas@ubs.com Date: Wed, 3 Jul 96 09:46:53 +0100 > From: Explor555@aol.com > I think it would be a good idea to have a spell for when your PC get > sucked into an Engulfing globe or a Black void. Which sucks them > back in to the dimension again. This spell should be a spell for > higher level mages and people sucked back should lose some of their > stats. RJT> Sounds a little dubious. On one hand, your character is not really dead, so it should be possible that he can come back, but on the other implementation of this spell will make void and globe nothing more that a kind of sleep. Mages will rank the De-globe or De-void spell, so that everytime you void a PC from another group, he would be brought back for the next round of combat. RJT> Also it would not be that easy to find out where exactly that character has been thrown, and so would be a difficult task to find him to bring him back into your group. RJT> What would be good is for Voided or Globed creatures to be held in an unknown dimension with their stats and alignment. Then they can be brought to fight in any battle when a call monster miracle is cast (if your alignment is similar. RJT> If they survive the battle, then they would become ordinary NPCs. With the option to recruit from NPCs, you might be able to get your character back (so long as your alignment has not drastically changed). RJT> It is a nice idea, but I don't see it being implemented. > KW>I have recently seen a groups trun sheet with a number of attacks > on another player group. During the first arrack the group was > killed of but on subsiquent attacks up to 100 exp was gained per > attack even though the group was dead. > any suggestions?? RJT> Major bug, but it only works for PC parties. You see, the party cannot disappear because it has to be held so that the unfortunate who has lost his group, can send in a turn and discover the fact (for which he is charged of course!). Also dead party members are held so that they can be resurrected at a later date, so a corpse can have a party number. If it has a number, it can be attacked! (I suspect that towns can be attacked too but I have never heard of anyone doing so). NPCs and the like disappear when they die. PCs do not! RJT> Perhaps a change should be made so that you can still attack a dead group, but no XP is gained when you do so. They could be level 0 monsters or something so your mages won't cast spells. > KW>There has been a running conversation on mutiple steal order in > my game 10. When both groups realise what is up and > join in an alignment check should be done to see weather a battle > occurs. RJT> What if the victim does not want to fight? He might be a particularly frail old mage, and would prefer to cast some vile spell than fight a young thief? The fight might possibly be fatal for the mage (on his own). > 2 There should be a K99 order which enhances you awarness but drops > the amount of strength and magic poinst you regain over night. > I wait for your suggestions > Karl wasley Game 10 editor RJT> This is a good idea! I think that if you have a large amount of money and you are worried about its safety, you should be able to endure a sleepless night guarding it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- JPG> Something I'd like to know is what you find the favourite feature of your game newsletter, whatever company and game you might be playing with. The newsletters I have seen differ slightly in format, but all contain a pretty standard message procedure together with different artwork and features. JPG> For game 11 KJC the feature I most like is the alliance battle league; adding up the points awarded in the standard battle league for each alliance (although mine seems to be unfairly last quite often). This may well be a commonplace feature, but I'd be interested to hear what everyone else likes best in their newsletter... So until next time, Happy Questing! And go see Mission Impossible for a good action thriller that is apparently nothing like the original series (which I've never seen!). >>-Josh-> "You can't always get what you want, But if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need" -- Rolling Stones >>-Josh-> "You can't always get what you want, But if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need" -- Rolling Stones Up
