Compiled by Josh Gallagher. J.P.Gallagher@durham.ac.uk o This isn't one of those automatic list thingies, so could all articles be sent clearly marked with paragraphs initialled to me. o If you want off the list, just say! No hassle, no pressure. o All material here is the exclusive property of the author and may not be used elsewhere without their permission. ___ / _ \ <Trumpets blare> It's back! Sorry for the delay in | __/DITORIAL producing this issue. I've moved all the addresses \___| over to this computer now, in a netscape address book format. Which took ages, as there are quite a few addresses on the list. If you are receiving this for the first time (a couple of you are), then welcome to the Digest! If, on the other hand, you have emailed me asking to be taken off and are still receiving it, just email me again (with caps lock on) - I lost a few emails in the change over. The new address to send inclusions for the Digest to is: Joshua@dial.pipex.com , or: od88@dial.pipex.com - They're both the same address. So, on with the digest! A lot of these messages are quite old now, and apologies for that. Hopefully we should continue on a weekly basis again after this. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 8 Jul 96 06:24:56 +0100 From: "sjaak zomer" <zomerosi@box.nl> >PS> I recently EMailed a turn in to KJC and, after waiting a week with no >reply, I EMailed the turn in again, only to have it sent back to me as >returned mail from justin@talk-101.com with the explanation that it `exceeded >the hop count'. >PS> Can anyone tells me what this means? The network kept trying to deliver it, but gave >up after a while because there was nowhere to deliver it to. SZ> I have had the same problems severall times (I am also playing Monster Island) and there seems to be only thing what *you* can do. Sent a message to justin@talk-101.com and say that you wanted to email orders@kjcgames.com and this failed and that you only got this (enclose *his* message) ofcourse mention that it worked always fine in the past. I have done this once before and I got an email back stating that it should work now and it did. BTW if it works send a message back to 'justin' that it worked. Sjaak --------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Jens J Loesel <Jens_J_Loesel@sbphrd.com> Date: 8 Jul 96 8:51:45 EDT JL> Here some bugs, I know, a little late again (JPG> _You're_ a little late..?) SC order: I have a group of 6 characters (slots 4-9). With monsters enhanced it is nice to investigate their strength hitting me before it's my turn to kill them off (just smashed 4 trolls, without magic and I don't even have a fighter), but tired of this I tried a SC 1 9 But it didn't worked, because: Not both positions are occupied. This is definitiv a bug. Here two more bugs some people probably don't want to have fixed: J order: I give a J order in Town A, travel to town B to see possible candidates and one trun later hire the candidate in town C. I've done so, it save travel expenses but isn't logic. J order again, this time together with quests: Just hire a character before your second Y order and he gets full money and XP. This should only work if: In a temple mission the character is hired before the monster is killed, in a fur price mission, before you get the message go back to the town where youcame from, etc. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 8 Jul 96 09:27:45 EST From: Mike Summerfield <MSUMMERF%ESOC.bitnet@listserv.gmd.de> Josh, Here is a small contribution for the Quest Digest. >PS> One of my groups stayed at the Alliance HQ with 9117 gold and got robbed >of 820 of it. Is this supposed to happen? I thought Alliance HQ's were safe! MDS> I also had this problem. My group was carrying a little 21,000 gold and lost around 1,400 gold (ouch!!). If my understanding is correct you can't be robbed in an inn when you buy sleep, so an alliance HQ is like an inn for alliance members, therefore it should be impossible to be robbed by city thieves during your stay in the HQ. MDS> Introducing De-Voided and De-Globed spells would make the game boring. There has to be an element of risk, where a character can be irreversibly removed from the game. I feel the resurrection service and the NA option are also making game play too safe, but I understand why KJC have introduced them (***MONEY***). --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 9 Jul 1996 10:22:06 +0200 (METDST) From: Stig Norland <stinor@statoil.no> question to QD from Stig Norland: have any of you ever tried to buy items from a cursed shop ??? you see , a friend of mine tried to buy a platemail in a shop, but the shopkeeper throw him out of the shop telling him that he didn't sell platemails !!! (the shop number was right) Or put it in another way; what is the effect of cursing a shop ??? --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: 09 Jul 96 15:10:54 EDT From: Karl Wasley <101523.2365@CompuServe.COM> >KW: I have recently had a number of complaints about the abuse that thealliances are giving to the system. I seems to many players that if you are not a member of an offical alliance you are going to be beaten into a pulp due to ther ability to increase ther skill scores and gain cheap plus weapons and armour for nothing. >KW I would be intersted if anyone has any ideas on this subject? --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Thu, 11 Jul 1996 00:28:41 +0100 (BST) From: Larkin <larkin@iol.ie> >>PS> I recently EMailed a turn in to KJC and, after waiting a week with no >>reply, I EMailed the turn in again, only to have it sent back to me as >>returned mail from justin@talk-101.com with the explanation that it `exceeded >>the hop count'. >>PS> Can anyone tells me what this means? Has anyone else had this problem? >>PS> I have EMailed many similar turns in to KJC previously with no problems. JL> That happened to me about 5 times. A few times I didn't recieve that mail and so thought it had worked. A week later after ringing KJC I found out that the turns had never got there and that there was something wrong with their email but they were meant to be getting it fixed that day. Hopefully it is now working. What you can do is ring them up to see if your emails were recieved:) > >> > KW>I have recently seen a groups trun sheet with a number of attacks >> > on another player group. During the first arrack the group was >> > killed of but on subsiquent attacks up to 100 exp was gained per >> > attack even though the group was dead. >> > any suggestions?? > >JL>You get exp if you hit characters even if they are dead, it won't comeup as a hit on the battle reports but you still get the exp. >>JPG> Something I'd like to know is what you find the favourite feature of >>your game newsletter, whatever company and game you might be playing >>with. The newsletters I have seen differ slightly in format, but all >>contain a pretty standard message procedure together with different >>artwork and features. >JL> I have to say tha I liked the battle reports the most as it is interesting to here how other groups do in battle so you can compare if you have also fought the same foe. I don't like newsletters when they are just completely messages... JPG> I think the messages are a very important part though. Others seem to want certain messages to take place in private between players. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: <Roy.Thomas@ubs.com> Date: Fri, 12 Jul 96 14:40:30 +0100 > SM> It might be a good point, but only when KJC remember to > check their emai l. I play in G12 and sent orders to KJC > along with orders for It's A Crime and Extra Time > (Playtest). > The only thing I have had back is about the Extra Time, and > that was to say that > I hadn't sent in any orders !!! > How often do they check they're email ??? Once in a blue > moon ?? RJT> This is a good point. Recently I have had varying success with E-Mail turns. One turn was bounced by 'Justin' the server demon, so unsure as to whether this was a real mail failure or not I held off sending a replacement for as long as I could (sending two identical turns would have been disastrous). RJT> On the morning of the last day of my turn week, there was no turn, so I assumed that KJC had not received my original, and sent a replacement. Since this turn was accepting a very valuable quest, I had a very great interest in accepting it before it timed out. RJT> Imagine my horror when I discovered later that the turn had not been processed until two days after the turn week! (Fortunately, and for some inexplicable reason, I have still been allowed to accept the quest) RJT> KJC have stated that mail sometimes takes a few days to travel over the internet, and that could be the problem. However, with my experience of the internet, a few seconds is usually the longest mail ever takes. Could there be something wrong with KJCs internet provider? It is not an inconceivable reason given the prior history RJT> On the subject of quest acceptance. Has anyone ever managed to accept a quest after the required game week had expired? JPG> Yup, on my second turn ever. :-) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: pontus.gustavsson@mailbox.swipnet.se (Pontus Gustavsson) >Also, any chance of getting hold of any email address for people in G12 ??? PG>Yes! At last a G 12'er on the Digest! I am, as you might know, the King of Fordip, leader of the HAWK (the other titles are in the WR... :-)) and player of the Inferno (1773). You're welcome to join the HAWK, we even have our own mailing list and WWW page! Here are some addresses: Pontus Gustavsson (Me! HAWK) <pontus.gustavsson@mailbox.swipnet.se> Rafid Salman (Macabres Last Dance) <salman@Email.ENST.Fr> Iain Bassam (Magisk Sirkelen, HAWK) <BASSAM@rmcs.cranfield.ac.uk> Brigham Whitney (Lords of Eternity, HAWK) <hi3130@Bristol.ac.uk> Graeme Wilson <gswilson@hardcafe.co.uk> Gavin Webb (Lions of Kharne) <100662.2671@compuserve.com> David Burstrom (Fleyshur's Fanclub, HAWK) <david@athena.df.lth.se> Mika Ahvonen (Champions of Truth, HAWK) <mahvonen@lokki.edutec.pori.fi> (JPG> Are all these people on the Digest? I don't think so! I'd like to know why now! ;-) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 15 Jul 1996 12:41:02 +0000 From: Jim Hurst <J.Hurst@surrey.ac.uk> JTH> I'm running a new web page at:- http://pcjh2.surrey.ac.uk/Jim/Quest/quest1.htm Please email thoughts and new material to me at j.hurst@surrey.ac.uk --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sat, 27 Jul 1996 01:18:37 -0400 From: PSykes6420@aol.com PS> For what it's worth. Here are some suggestions for Quest improvements that I E-Mailed off to KJC at `comments@kjcgames.com' recently. PS> 1) After a `P0' order, all the Priests that have and have not had their power increased are listed. PS> 2) A one line gap is put in between different fights that you have incurred in your `events scince last turn'. PS 3) Parties do not shout out a battle cry if they have wiped out their opponents during spell casting or missile fire. (Cosmetic) PS> 4) The inclusion of opponents killed/injured during spellcasting in the totals for a fight PS> 5) If a character tries to put more money in the bank than the account limit, he just puts the money in up to the limit (OK! I copied this one from Quest Digest!) PS> 6) After a fight, you are told the number of opponents that you have wounded, as well as just `assessing the damage'. >JPG> Something I'd like to know is what you find the favourite feature of >your game newsletter, > >JPG> For game 11 KJC the feature I most like is the alliance battle >league; PS> I am with Josh on this. I am also in game 11 and think that the battle league is excellent, especially as there is now a league table, also, where points are accumulated instead of overy group starting from scratch, as with the battle league. I know it isn't perfect, as editors don't receive all of the battle reports, but I still think it's great! If you haven't got one, demand one from your editor now! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- JPG> Okay folks! That's the lot. One final thing to say before I test this new version of the mailing list; I'm using netscape mail now, which is pretty good in many respects, but falls down in some others. One of these is it does not give you any indication of how many characters there are per line. If you encounter difficulties (lines wrapping in awkward places, etc.), please tell me and I will attempt to do something about it. JPG> Thank you to everyone who has contributed over the last few weeks and to you all for putting up with the delay. As always, if you are wanting to be taken off the Digest for any reason, you just have to email me and ask. If you have friends you think may be interested, ask them to drop me a line and I'll include them on the mailing list.
