OPENING PBeM ---> Urk'z Banelin: A Dark Shadow Falls From: spartan@whidbey.com (Jamie F. McNett) Date: Mon, 05 Aug 1996 00:00:00 +0000 Greetings, Dwellers of the Midnight Shadow. Those of you who enjoy the intrigues of roguery, thievery, assassination, and challenge will definitely feel at home in the world of Urk'z Banelin: A Dark Shadow Falls. This world of my own creation, set in the mysterious city of Urk'z Banelin exists halfway between the free winds of the forest above and the dank depths of the caverns below. The city exists between two worlds; the world inhabited by the Dark Elves and their ilk and the world inhabited by the surface dwelling peoples. One might ask, "How could such a city exist?" The answer is simple: profits. Goods from all over the world pass through Urk'z Banelin, to flow down the above-ground canals and powerful river into the Sea of Silv'ra or through the tunnels and underground waterways which wind their way through the Dragon Spine Mountains. Of course, not everyone in Urk'z Banelin is a prosperous merchant. The poorer areas of the city are frought with peril, for within their shadows lurk assassins, thieves, mercenaries, and other rogues looking to make their fortune. A huge fortune is to be made, too, if 'business' is done correctly. Some Ground Rules 1. I am only going to take a maximum of 3 characters, for I want to do lots of indepth roleplaying and small group adventuring which is nearly impossible to do with a larger group. Thus, take some time and thought when creating your character! The more ellaborate and well-described characters I receive will be most likely to be chosen. 2. Races allowed: all (except for those from the Humanoids handbook). Subraces are allowed from the following handbooks: Elves, Dwarves, and Gnomes & Halflings. 3. Classes allowed: all, but thieves and bards will have MUCH better survival odds. Oh, and don't think that you'll just be doing city adventuring! Dungeons, canyons, forests, and swamps also await! I really enjoy having scouts and burglars in my adventures (thus, be prepared to face different types of adventures!). All multiclass and dualclass combos are allowed. Also, kits are available from the same handbooks as in #2 above. Note: I highly recommend a specialist thief kit from the Thieves' Handbook! 4. Starting level etc. Level: you begin play at level five (5). You have already done a lot of low level stuff in your life (stealing purses and the like) but you want MORE!!! Now that you're not just a kid anymore (or so you think) you feel quite capable of getting anything you want...any way you want it. Stats: you are allowed one 18, to be modified by race and class. Your other stats should not add up to anything over 80. Hit points: you receive maximum starting hitpoints (i.e. 30 in most cases). Life in Urk'z Banelin has made you tough (however, do not adjust your starting hit points for constitution bonuses; that you will do in levels to come)! Gold: I will give you your starting cash Equipment: you have the following equipment: -2 sets of normal clothing* (most likely dark) -bards receive a set of clothing to perform in (colored gleefully) -2 daggers, 1 small knife -1 sword/axe/spear of any type allowed to you by your class and race (swords are recommended) -Leather armor or a missile weapon (nothing that costs over 60gp) -thieves' picks (if a thief or bard) -anything else you think your character should have given his/her social status, class, or race. Note: no magical items! Don't worry, you'll make lots of cash and get lots of cool stuff if you play smartly! A Home: you start play homeless, but the first adventure will allow you to pick from several places to build a base of operations! 5. Background: Please give me a detailed description of the character in every way you deem necessary. Required descriptions are needed for a character's height, weight, and general appearance. It would make play very enjoyable if you write a small biography for him or her, detailing major past experiences. If you'd like to play in this highly fleshed-out world, please send the above to Andrew McNett at spartan@whidbey.com. In the subject line of your letter please include the words "pbem", so that your letter can be sorted by my mail client. I look forward to the first turn! Up
