Call For Players: GALAXY Explorer From: bob@tactics.sd.inri.com (Bob Boyer) Date: Sat, 10 Aug 1996 00:00:00 +0000 Call for Players for GALAXY Explorer ------------------------------------ Another episode of GALAXY Explorer will be starting soon. Note: This is a variant of the standard "galaxy" game. All players interested in joining should first check out the Explorer home page at http://www.dtai.com/galaxy/ and then sign up by sending a message to batch@www.dtai.com. This game, like all galaxy games, is a free PBeM game. The basis for Explorer is Galaxy, but with changes. Your knowledge of the galaxy is limited to what you actually observe yourself. You begin with a single home world and your map extends as far as a probe can travel in a single turn. As you occupy new worlds, your knowledge of the galaxy will increase (improving your DRIVE multiplier will also expand your view of the galaxy). The map wraps so you start in the center of the universe and are free to expand in all directions. You will have no knowledge of the other races in the galaxy until you actually encounter them and even then your knowledge of them will be limited to what you observe. There is a double blind mailer that allows you to send personal communiques to races you have encountered or broadcast messages to the galaxy at large. Combat is different than standard Galaxy. In Explorer, every ship fires. Then the results of the firing is resolved. Then the surviving ships on both sides will be allowed to fire again and resolution will occur. Combat tends to be bloodier in this variant and there have been battles with no survivors. You will have more control over you diplomatic status. You can set a default stance to adopt when meeting new races. You can also set a relationship with known races on a race by race basis. And you can set overrides to these on a planet by planet basis. These are just some of the features of GALAXY Explorer. For more details, check out the web page. We are planning to run two turns a week (Tuesday/Thursday) starting Tuesday, August 20.
