Apparently, there was a flurry of activity this past turn that was unintentionally hostile. I am not only referring to the attacking of RIP units by one of our member factions. From everything that I have read, RIP intended (and intends) to allow access out of Rantlu to the Northeast for all Syndic8 members. Accidentally, I hope, you left units guarding that hex. Not only did that prevent our units from leaving the city, but may have prompted the attack on your units. That is too bad about your units, but I would like to get my units out of the city to the Northeast, and out of your hair. I mentioned in the Times for October, that we intended to peacefully coexist with RIP. We will continue that policy. However, if we are not allowed to exit the city as we believed we were instructed to do, Syndic8 will become aggressive. You have demanded payment for the loss of units in the skirmish that ensued from your own aggressiveness. 2000 silver. I demand repayment for the loss of valuable time as we race for land that factions from Rigganthorpe are after as well. 2000 silver will be fine, although the other Syndic8 factions that have imprisoned units in Rantlu may have their own demands. I suggest we try to put behind us the events of this past month, and look to the future, where we may still develop a good working relationship. It would certainly seem to benefit you to have Syndic8 defend your Eastern border for you, so that you may concentrate on the plush and expansive regions South and Southwest of the city. When the leading edge of the C.H.A.O.S. forces reached the edge of the farmhouse road, Giggledun lite a signal arrow from a small firebox that he had at his feet. Pulling his bow back as far as he could draw it, he let fly the arrow straight up over the field that flowed with C.H.A.O.S. warriors. Suddenly, from the woods edge on his opposite side, five points of light streaked out from the darkness and arrowed for the center of the horde. As they approached, they grew in size until they became mightly balls of fire. The balls smashed into the army incinerating a large portion of the troops unlucky enough to be caught in their blast. The C.H.A.O.S. warriors were routed before the battle was even joined. As the C.H.A.O.S. troops turned and ran from the death trap, 5 more balls of fire impacted upon the fleeing foes. Not a single soldier was left alive. "Ahh," though Giggledun, "That's all of them. To use the spell, CAST Earth_Lore; the mage will receive an amount of money based on his level, and the economy of the region. Also, a mage with knowledge of Earth Lore will detect the use of Earth Lore by any other mage in the same region. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ RANTLU UPDATE --------------------------- As those of you on the player's list may have seen, alliance Syndic8 was accussed of committing a dastardly act on the Rantlu Ice Pirates, specifically the faction Fellowship of Song, last turn. The Fellowship of Song sent us the following message: 'Why did you attack me? I granted you safe passage from my lands, I changed my faction attitude to friendly to allow you to tax as you headed NE from Rantlu across the desert...As compensation for my losses I demand $2000 (or 20 Combat 1 men) payable in Rantlu by January year2. If you do not pay, I will crush you. This whole escapade makes a mockery of your supposed desire for peace.' Now, a couple of these points are true. The Ice Pirates had indeed told us that we could leave the city as long as it was to the NE. And Fellowship of Song had agreed to declare one of our factions friendly so that he could tax that turn and avoid starvation. However, a couple of interesting things happened the turn. First, the Syndic8 factions that attempted to move out of Rantlu to the NE were denied entry from Fellowship of Song units on guard in the hex. Second, the Syndic8 faction that was supposed to be declared friendly was denied entry as well...obviously Fellowship of Song had not declared him friendly as he claimed, but had put his units on guard and declared him unfriendly! Unfortunately for Fellowship of Song, our faction had used the ADVANCE command, and in the ensuing conflict Fellowship of Song suffered significant losses. In addition, the Anzique Cannibals have claimed damages of $2000 silver against Fellowship of Song for lost movement during the turn. Claims by other Syndic8 members who were denied entry may be forthcoming as well. All is not lost, however. Cooler heads seemed to have prevailed, at least for the moment, and efforts continue on both sides to reach an agreement and avoid further bloodshed. The coming turn may prove pivotal to negotiations. Any faction attempting to leave Rantlu by land should contact both alliances. The current mood outside of the city is to attack first and ask questions later.
