I'll try and write something useful in the \___| editorial this time. This week we have more opinions being voiced on the official alliances strength skill loophole, more questions/answers about money - how much you can expect to be robbed and how much you can have in one bank account. We also have various suggestions for basic improvements to some of the older orders. Question of the week: How are the horses getting on? Anyone with inside info? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------Date: Sat, 31 Aug 1996 22:14:39 +0100 From: Ian Mitchell <logjam@logjam.demon.co.uk> IM> I have a couple of questions to ask... 1. Has anyone tried robbing an alliance HQ? 2. Was it worth the trouble? 3. Do they members of an alliance get informed when their HQ has been burgled??? IM> I'm also mulling around several ideas for increasing the flexibility of orders, including a variant of the H-order, 'H <char> 99 <item>', which issued before a 'H 99 <shop> <item>' would save orders when selling loot. I've emailed that one to KJC but I'd be interested to hear what other people think... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------From: "Dieterly, Arthur C" <dieterac@jmu.edu> Date: Mon, 2 Sep 1996 11:04:08 -0400 (EDT) AD> I have found that you are in danger of being stolen from if you are carrying 5000+ gold in town regardless of where the party sleeps (ie Inn or Alliance HQ) AD> Has anyone fought a NIMROD. If so, please discribe in as much detail as possible your engagement with it in the next QD. AD> I have been told that the Quest program software *CRASHES* if a party attempts to carry more than 50,000 gold - so much for a 15 character party doing B 99 +3 Armour. AD> Someone asked if you can put money in the bank in one settlement and withdraw it from another settlement's bank. ANSWER: yes. AD> Someone asked about receiving no weapon skill from a newly excepted fighter (recruit). Yes, it is possible for a newly excepted fighter to receive a weapon skill NOT EQUAL to to his skill number. An excellent explanation of this BUG is found in the Quest-Guide (published by The Brotherhood) found on the world wide web at: http//:member.aol.com/BRUDERSCHA/welcome.htm AD> Now my FEW words of wisdom onto the most heated subject going on in Quest right now; The Offical Alliance use of gold transfer with partys doing strength trainings etc.. The concept of an OA getting somekind of benefit like this is O.K. in principle. However, what I find repulsive is that the game software does not have race/class limits for AW, TO, HEALTH, and CH. The OA players out there are doing 250 TO with 99 HEALTH elf mages as well as dwarf fighters as a matter of routine....HOGWASH. All EMs with the relatively same characterized bodies as DFs etc. etc. etc. We need race/class limits immediately. The OA that I am a member of and of which I am the head also (The Knights, USA game #3) feels that the flavor of the fantasy setting is destroyed by having no race/class limits (ie EM max health set at, say 65 etc. etc. etc.) The fact that all of my characters can be trained to the same maximums , regardless of race/class, is the problem, not the alliance advantage. Secondly, the software should be changed so that all trainings require the expenditure of 100 exp. pts. (or more depending on what kind of training we are talking about). AD> Fianally, The Brotherhood reported that they do not pass around the TREASURER position, rather they have the TREASURER pass back the gold. Yes, this is more efficient. Of course, you have to have a very team-oriented person willing to spend their money (Deutsch Marks, Pounds, Dollars or what have you) to do turns with mostly just AG (alliance give) orders, at four U.S. dollars a turn over here that is alot to ask of the TREASURER, IMHO. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------Date: Tue, 3 Sep 1996 00:49:08 +0200 (MET DST) From: Kent <kbakke@sn.no> KB> Hello everybody!!! I wondered if any of you have a quest mapper for pc, other than the one found on the Australian quest site. I have downloaded mine from there, but I can`t get it to print anything that makes sense... If any of you have another mapper, please contact me!!!!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------Date: 31 Aug 96 17:51:27 EDT From: Karl Wasley <101523.2365@CompuServe.COM> KW>RE: one order for all the parties priest etc KW>I would like to see a U99,1 or U99,2 order KW>this would let all the party members train in either 1 (meele weapon) or 2(missle weapon), It would save our orders and the continual changing of standing orders. KW>It would work like the U 1 weapon 1 order where you train yourself. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 4 Sep 1996 13:42:59 -0100 From: plrwb@gamgee.cc.flinders.edu.au (Richard Brown) JPG> Richard Brown at the above address wrote asking if I could pass on any email addresses from people playing in Dynamic Games' Game 1. As I don't really maintain a list of who plays in what game, I'll have to leave it to you to contact Richard yourselves. Thanks in advance! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------From: <Roy.Thomas@ubs.com> Date: Thu, 5 Sep 96 09:35:32 +0100 > PS> Here is another suggestion for the improvements to Quest section > - An order which enables all Fighters or Priests or Mages or > Thieves to Hand over items (either to shops, groups or fellow group > members) or Buy items or services. RJT> Actually all you need here is a target number for all the mages in the group, all the priests in the group etc... There is currently a target to allow you adjust all the mages/priests spell attack level. If you have a target of 99 it refers to the whole group, 98 is all Mages, and 97 is all priests. However, these targets do not work for anything except Spell Attack Levels. All that is required is to open up the target so that it applies to all orders. For instance, you can have all your mages buying powders at once by doing B 98 0 301 (without having the annoying remark to say that the non mages cannot buy as you do when you use B 99 0 301). RJT> An interesting question I was thinking about recently is how do you create undead? I mean, if they are not born, and do not propagate, then there must be a mage somewhere creating them. But there are no mage spells for the creation of undead! RJT> Normal Fantasy allows for the summoning of demons, also for which there are no spells. Is there anyone else who thinks that there should be more, varied spells? I am not advocating more power to the mages of this world (since they seem to be the most powerful people as long as they have power) but more variety. For instance, certain spells may be only learnt at one particular town, allowing for different groups from different areas to attack with different techniques. RJT> You can extend this idea to weapons, Spears, Tridents and Nets in a certain culture (town) and swords and axes in another. RJT> And I would still like to see 50 point miracles for the priests, whether they take experience or not. JPG> Hear hear! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------Date: Fri, 6 Sep 1996 22:45:30 +0100 From: Ian Mitchell <logjam@logjam.demon.co.uk> (JPG> A question - is this stuff actually for the Digest Ian? Just that it was addressed to Karl, and I'm not Karl... kinda confused me... ;-) Re: Monks... Save your spellpower and take them on in Melee combat. I got a total of 486xp for three Monks of Fleyshur, in just a couple of engagements (that doesn't include spell & miracle xp!). 'The problem' as someone put it, is that they have 2 melee-attacks a round, meaning they would slaughter newbie groups. Their flee factor is quite high but definately there - the first group I took on had 6 members and refused to melee after I seriously wounded 4 of them and lightly wounded the other 2. Oh and they cast a spell at you... but it only does minor damage to a single character (scary, huh?!). Plus they have partial spell immunity - at least some of my Fireballs/Lightning bolts/Poison Clouds had 'no effect' on them. Re: Gold and getting robbed... Did anyone with a 50,000gp bank account think to invest in a letter of credit? How much can you get on a letter anyways? Can they be stolen like cash can be? (devious thoughts) Yes, you can deposit in one town and withdraw from another - all banks/money-lenders are as one... oh, and if you have an overdue debt and you withdraw cash from your bank account, you will be forced to repay the debt, as I found out last turn. Re: Alliances Does all this bullshit abuse of alliance game-code really go on? Speaking as someone who hasn't played for 2 years, the game seems so have gone downhill some. :( Cheers, Ian. :) JPG> I don't think it goes on all _that_ much to be honest. The loophole should definitely be closed though. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- JPG> For your information, having finished university I have taken the astute measure of getting myself a job. I'll be starting a week on Monday which is going to involve relocation to a place without a computer. I say this as an advance warning - there will almost certainly be a Digest next weekend (subject to contributions!), but beyond that there may be a bit of a gap. Please be patient!
