In particular, I do not like alliances who require passwords be revealed for membership. If I get any complaints, I may well disallow auto- matic resends of reports except to a faction's main address. My rationale is that the password mechanism is meant as a convenience, not as a game security mechanism. A fight resulted in which the guard was beaten but not eliminated. Those who attack the White Lotus kung-fu school shall feel the fury of the White Lotus fist." When cast using the CAST order, it causes the region to have good weather for the entire month; movement is at the normal rate (even if it is winter, and movement costs would normally be doubled), and the economic production of the region is improved for a month (this improvement of the economy will actually take effect during the turn after the spell is cast). To use the spell in this fashion, CAST Clear_Skies; no arguments are necessary. The other use of the spell is in combat, as a defense against weather attacks. If you are using a covered grill, add soaked wood chips for more smoke flavor. use a hank of giant snake meat, well-trimmed, then rolled and tied into a cylinder shape for the spit. Prepare the marinade the night before so the roast can inhabit it overnight, and roast long over lowish heat, as you would for pork, maybe one-and-a-quarter hours if the roll is three or four inches thick. Too high a heat will cause excessive blackness to the outside, because the honey will burn. Like you, I have watched with a mixture of concern and admiration as the first of an entirely new breed of organization arose from the inferno of Helsicke. GALE is the harbinger of things to come -- first of the Metals (meta-alliances) built specifically to weather the storms of the immanent Mingling, where starting cities collide. The initial results of this Great Experiment have done much to allay my early concerns. GALE has ushered in a new period of peace for troubled Helsicke. Accord Ltd would like to applaud this herculean effort and express our full support for the sweeping peace initiative. As the other starting cities scramble to assemble their own umbrella organizations, that they not be left out in the rain, I would urge caution and vision. It is imperative that visionary leaders from across Atlantis participate in open dialogue to guide these new titans as they learn to walk. There are many pressing questions and many inherent dangers Metals, for example, cannot grow and prosper in geographic isolation as alliances do. If these entities become exclusive to one particular region -- GALE for Helsicke, DIN for Durness etc. -- all we have accomplished is to escalate the shortcomings of the alliance system to a new level. The insularity, the xenophobia, the Us-vs.-Them world-view of the alliances are not circumvented, but rather magnified ten-fold. The price for inner city peace becomes inter-city war. The Demon Lore skill does not give the mage any direct skills, but is required to study further into the Demonic arts. The residents of Helsicke have been cooped up now for months with the Monsoons wailing away, making travel difficult to impossible. Reports of ordinary citizens paying high fees to learn the magical Gate Lore spell, just so they can leave the city, have been starting to surface. The mayor seemed concerned at his latest press conference, "If some many people keep leaving, we'll soon have no one left in this town!!!" The actual numbers don't support the mayor's ramblings, as it is clear that Helsicke is in no danger of becoming under populated. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ create aura of fear [FEAR] 1: Create Aura of Fear is a combat spell; a mage who casts it will project an aura of fear on his enemies, reducing their combat effectiveness by 2. A mage with this skill can strike fear into the hearts of 2 to 20 times his skill level men; note that this spell does not affect any type of creature.
