Quest Digest 14/9/96 From: Joshua Gallagher <Joshua@dial.pipex.com> Date: Sat, 14 Sep 1996 00:00:00 +0000 ...___ _ / _ \ | | | |_| |UEST__| |IGEST \__ | / _ | | |_ | |_| | An e-mail discussion forum for the fantasy |_ / \___/ play by mail game; "Quest". Compiled by Josh Gallagher. Joshua@dial.pipex.com o This isn't one of those automatic list thingies, so could all articles be sent clearly marked with paragraphs initialled to me. o If you want off the list, just say! No hassle, no pressure. o All material here is the exclusive property of the author and may not be used elsewhere without their permission. I'm giving you the permission to use what I write though. :-) ___ / _ \ Okay, welcome to another issue of the Digest and hello to | __/DITORIAL the new additions to the list. Now I'm not sure why, but \___| I've had the lowest amount of contributions in one week for quite a while this week! Precisely 1 contribution. Makes my job easy, I guess, but that's not really the point! If anyone from KJC has received a turn back recently they'll see the KJC news 10 included with news of the horses being tested in game 17. Does anyone from game 17 have any info about this? Are they actually in operation? JPG> Another point to put in the editorial is that there will be a delay before the release of the next issue due to me moving out. I reckon at an issue in two weeks time and after that I'll see what the situation is. Please send contributions in the mean time, as I shall be most disappointed to find nothing waiting to be sent out when I get back here to compose the next Digest! JPG> I know that much of the time the Digest is already used to talk about improvements and to voice people's ideas for Quest, but as KJC have said they don't know what the next major thing they will be programming is, I thought we could give them a hand. As it will most likely affect all the different Quest franchises it is something that everyone needs to have a say in. So, what is the ONE MAJOR improvement you would like to see programmed next? JPG> And now, on with the inclusion! Thanks a lot for this, Bruce... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Bruce Wright <bwright@ness.efs.mq.edu.au> Date: Mon, 9 Sep 1996 23:34:37 +1000 (EST) Bruce> Regarding the printing out of map files using the Quest Mapper which can be found on the Dynamic Games web page. Bruce> It is possible to print out the map files from the mapping program. Unfortunately it won't print out to laser printers (it just sends out two blank pages), you can't save it to a file which can be sent to a word processor etc. Bruce> The way to print out the maps is to use one of the old Epson-type dot matrix printers. If you use one of these you will have no problems with printing out your maps. The only problems you will have is finding one of the old type printers and disconnecting your current printer to hook up the dot matrix one. Bruce> Yes this does work. I have managed to print out map files in this manner. It is a little inconvienient though. JPG> Is it not possible to use laser printer emulation? I know from a recent conversation with people at the printer manufacturer, 'Brother', that their laser printers support Epsom dot matrix emulation... dot matrix quality printing from a laser printer. Defeats the object of having a laser printer I guess, but hopefully you get your maps! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- JPG> Just before I go, I wouldn't mind a report of both the Leeds pub meet and the Birmingham one. I would have made the Birmingham one had I not heard about it for the first time half a week after the event. :-( Anyone on for doing an East/West Sussex pub meet? Haven't a clue where though, being as I'm only just moving... JPG> One last thing; is the limit for alliance transfer of money to groups set at 15,000? I got two orders requesting transfers of 30,000 a piece changed to transfer 15,000 a piece and informed that some of my orders were wrong and ammended. JPG> Okay, until next time (probably a couple of weeks, as I say), Happy Questing my friends! -- >>-Josh-> "I never saw it as the start; it's more a change of heart" -- Ocean Colour Scene Up
