Volume 4 9610.06 ========================================================================== === INTERSTELLAR NEWS BRIEFS DATELINE Kochab, September 30 - Pressure from the Interstellar Traders Union and The Colonies has caused The Empire to negotiate a treaty with Gecko leaders on Draak. An immediate withdrawal of ground forces has already begun, and Imperial blockades are no longer in effect on any planets in The Core. "This is being looked at as a cautious victory by my people!", exclaimed Marvin Chetenko, a high-level Gecko official. Imperial forces will continue to monitor activity on the planet, but the majority of troops and ships will be returning to Sol. Hundreds of thousands of Gecko citizens celebrated in the streets, placing garlands of colorful flowers around the necks of departing Imperial soldiers. DATELINE Mizar, October 2 - Changes to how interstellar travelers move from one star system to another are fast on their way with the invention of a new navigational computer that will allow "wrap-through" jumping... that is, the ability perform wrap-around travel in known space. Three new quadrants of space, making up a total of 10,000 Quads including The Core, will soon be open for exploration and travel. Although these zones have had some contact with Imperial scouts for several years, there are no well-defined maps available. Several alien races have also been contacted, and independent traders and explorers are encouraged to help define these new quadrants, establish trade relations and expand contact. The Empire has sent emissaries to numerous worlds, and will continue to do so. The new navigational computers are not yet available, but should be by early November, and will be installed as free upgrades automatically. DATELINE Earth, October 6 - There will be a good number of significant improvements occurring in Smuggler's Run over the next few months. As usual, additions and changes can cause bugs in the program, so I am asking that all players let me know immediately if you encounter any suspected errors, but please make sure you have found an actual error and have not just missed something earlier in your turn report. The changes will all be added to a new version of the Technical Manual, which will be made available to all when it is ready. Until then, you will be notified through the GNS when changes are complete and how to utilize them as they are implemented. Don't forget that the GNS will be moving to a 2-week format. Also, the online Bigelow's Guide will no longer list cargo shortages and surpluses, and smugglers will have to find these out for themselves.
