Any Interest In New UK Soccer Management PBEM? From: jaymin@globalnet.co.uk (Jason Minett) Date: Wed, 23 Oct 1996 00:00:00 +0000 I'm in the early stages of developing a commercial soccer pbem. Before spending too much time and money I need to check that there is at least a fair amount of interest in the product. The game will expand on the typical team manager scenario with plenty of extras I haven't heard of before. A league will consist of 4 divisions, with a couple of cup competitions, etc. There will probably be one midweek and one weekend fixture, with managers being able to submit any match decisions, transfer bids, etc. on a realtime basis, as opposed to sending all options in one communication per match / turn. Disinterested parties may call this a sneaky advance advertisement, but I do think pricing will greatly affect the level of interest, which is what I am presently trying to guage. The cost will be kept as low as possible, basically enough to earn myself a decent wage if it turns into a full time job. A rough estimate is between 0.80 and 1.20 per week. There will definitely be no extras for cup games, advanced options or whatever. I am looking into the possibility of prizes for league / cup winners. Awarding cash prizes probably breaks some kind of licensing law or something, and isn't particularly imaginative anyway. I'm really thinking about more appropriate stuff like a season ticket of your choice, soccer books, team kits, whatever. You tell me. Should I go ahead with the game, participants will have a nice windows front end, so it'll be just like playing a souped up version of your favourite manager game, only with real opponents. What I need at the moment is feedback from the gaming community. If you have suggestions, high hopes, criticisms, doubts or anything else that could sway me either way, please let me know. It would help if I heard from the cynics as well as the supporters. If things go well I will be looking for beta testers in a couple of months. Please note that nobody will go on the list as a result of replying to this post. I'm not being ungrateful, but I have to make this clear to ensure that the replies I receive are not biased. Keep your eyes open, and I'll post a separate request if / when the time comes. Can you address replies to me personally on: jaymin@globalnet.co.uk Cheers. Jason Minett. Up
