PBM/EMAIL PROJECT From: "Burt Irving" <birving@hawk.igs.net> Date: Sat, 23 Nov 1996 00:00:00 +0000 Hello All, From the looks of the size of this newsgroup, PBM has lost it's popularity? I ran a couple of PBM games several years ago. They were relatively simple pay games. At the time I had no problem finding players who were interested. The titles were Company Commander and Vietnam, both were licensed from Schubel & Sons from California. I made extensive changes to the titles and as far as my player base was concerned, improved the playability dramatically. In any event, I'll get to the point ... I am considering embarking on a new style of wargame, played on internet. With today's technology, and several years of programming experience, I am looking forward to providing an extremely realistic and detailed modern combat and diplomacy game. I have compiled data on over seven thousand miltary unit types and extensive research material on over 150 countries. Players would represent either the military or political leader of a country. The political player would be responsible to fund the military player from monies taken from the tax base, trade etc. A full (over 200 items) list of tradeable stocks would exist allowing intelligent trading and investment to take place. The user interface and gameplay design is as detailed as a typical computer wargame. (ie Harpoon, Close Combat) BUT ... all of your opponents and allies are other gamers and the game length can be infinite. The down side ... It's still in development If anyone has an interest in such a project, as a player, a contributor or employee please contact me. B. Irving Up
