I dropped from Oly g1 a year ago.  I cannot exactly remember what if any
mechanism there was for detecting other mages, but I would suggest that
instead of out righ notification of things like araculation, why not just
allow mages the ablility to detect each others relative power by things
like:

1) Presence:  The more power a mage has the farther away he can be detected
               by a mage.  The more powerful a mage is, the more sensitive
               that mage is to detecting other mages.

2) Spells  :  When mages use their power by casting spells, this increases
the
              chance of being "sensed" by other mages.  The more powerful
the
              spell, the greater the likelihod of being detected.

3) Misc     : have spells and/or items that will increase/decrease(cursed)
              this ability.

Let competition come naturally, by rumor, by experience and by other arts.
Just my two cents.  I think I would like to play in g2, the changes overall
look quite encouraging.
