Which are the wars still in progress ? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Well here we go pastures new and such forth. end ------------------------------------------------------------------------ summon wind [SWIN] 1: A mage with knowledge of Summon Wind can summon up the powers of the wind to aid him in sea or air travel. Usage of this spell is automatic; at level 1, if the mage is in a Longboat, that ship will get 2 extra movement points. Also, if the mage is flying, he will receive 2 extra movement points. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ water lore [WATE] 1: Water Lore is the study of the the seas. A mage with the knowledge of Water Lore can use his knowledge to breathe underwater like a fish and travel the Atlantis Ocean without the use of a ship. Usage of this spell is automatic, also the level of Water Lore also affects whether the mage can be attacked in a manner similar to Riding. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Chronicles of The Tribe The day of the decision is coming closer. The taxable areas are maxed out. The production areas are close to the maximum. Mages are not doing much lately. The Tribe is leaning towards trade but a decison of which mage will be fired is a hard one to make. Some may see this a propaganda, when actually its pure factual history. SEP = Somebody Elses Problem (when last I looked) AIF = Alliance of Independent Factions I am an AIF member. The AIF is a relatively small alliance which was formed by 2 or 3 of us in the Nexus. Upon hearing good things of the Durness area from some of the locals, we headed that way. Unfortunately, we soon encountered the SEP. The SEP consist of 12 or 13 factions which started early in the game (as shown by the member faction number, for example 22,25,26) although some of of the members started later. We should have known things would turn bad, when soon after arriving, we heard of the SEP eliminating a faction in the area (I think the BOT (Brotherhood of Twee - a very military faction of the SEP) were responsible - they kept putting out pseudo religious zelot stuff about killing unbelievers). NOTE: The well known Atlantis phrase 'Eviler than Twee' was inspired by BOT tactics) Anyway, while reception of the AIF by the SEP was frosty, (weak) diplomatic ties were established and the territory to which the few AIF factions would send their small ( < 10 men ) forces to (N of Durness) was agreed upon, along with a N/S border - AIF to the West, SEP to the East. We won't harp on the foiled robbery (of silver) attempt made upon one of the AIF factions by a SEP faction after non-aggression agreements had been made. After a few turns of moving N, the AIF scouts came across an CITY (Abrantes) - potentially our first. We planned the army required to take the city (Note: at this point the SEP have at least one city and one town in their territory - this detail gained from info they provided). A few turns into building our army, a SEP scout, having illegally crossed the agreed N/S boundry, found Abrantes and ... all hell broke loose. A few turns later a large SEP army camped on the Abrantes doorstep, and shortly there after took the city (without loss I might add). The SEP army consited of a moderate troop force together with over 10 mages, most of them fire, and a high level tactician. As this was going on, various AIF troops came under attack all along the west edge of the agreed N/S border. Well, the AIF could not hope to oppose such a force, and fled N and W, to the plains NW and W of Abrantes. Pillaging as we moved, to slow pursuit, we moved W, hoping to find some territory out of that claimed by the SEP. Sadly, we ran out of land - surrounded by Ocean, we were stuck. Since them, some AIF factions have been wiped out and have restarted. Some gated away in a daring escape from the 'lost plains', aided by a new ally. Some escaped by ship and still others travelled overland south of Durness to new lands. As you may guess, the AIF is now pretty spread out over the lands of Atlantis. But in spite of this, small groups of AIF factions continue to work together, all with just one overriding goal in mind : Destruction of the SEP. The area around the starting cities is very crowded and newbies are not very welcome. I started a few turns ago and Gate-Jumped randomly and found myself in a large lonely area which awaits to be colonized. I am far away from Helsicke, Dunster and all the trouble with GALE, SEP etc and do not know what to do first, because the opportunities are vast. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The west shall be ours! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ armorer [ARMO] 3: A unit with this skill may PRODUCE plate armor from 3 units of iron. Plate armor provides a 2/3 chance of surviving a successful attack in battle. hunting [HUNT] 3: A unit with this skill may use the PRODUCE order to hunt floaters, a rare and skittish denizen of the swamps of Atlantis. Use the order PRODUCE Floater_Hide to produce floater hide (note that Hunting 3 is required to determine if floater hide can be produced in a swamp). Floaters actually weigh less than air, since much of their body is made up of gaseous sacs. Floater hide is prized by high level Shipbuilders of Atlantis, who can use the thin hide to build hot air balloons. shipbuilding [SHIP] 3: Shipbuilding 3: A unit with this skill may use the BUILD order to construct armored galleons from 150 units of ironwood. An armored galleon has the same properties as a normal galleon, but also provides protection (in the same manner as a building) to the first 200 men within. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ When you show skill reports, you destruct every dreams. No order is necessary to use this spell, it will be used automatically when the mage is involved in battle. mining [MINI] 4: No skill report. weaponsmith [WEAP] 4: No skill report. enchant swords [ESWO] 1: A mage with the Enchant Swords skill may enchant normal swords into mithril swords, which give a +4 bonus to Combat skill when used in combat. A mage may enchant 5 times his skill level swords per turn; the swords should be in the mage's inventory for him to enchant them. His entire inner circle and all of his workers were mingling curiously in the tiny room. Most looking like they would rather be elsewhere. All except his scout of course, who was still exloring to the south of the city. Raising his hands the Commander called the gathering to silence. A dozen men ceased their taling and stared at him expectantly. "My friends" he began. "I have gathered you here to tell you that I am leaving this city". With this single sentence the room was thrown into an uproar. The workers talked excitedly among themselves in angry tones, muttering that he was abandoning them. The asassins called for him to exlain his actions, while his general simply stared into space, apparently calculating the implications of the pronouncement. His aprentice said nothing, but looked at him worriedly. He had been promised the arts of magic in return for his loyalty. He began to explain his reasoning more for his loyal aprentice than for any of the others. "I have consulted with my allies, a far flung group of leaders,and have decided upon a course of action. I will depart this city through means of the magical gate at the end of this month. I know not where I will end up, I can only promise you that one day I WILL return. You will remain in the city, I leave Von Knight, my aprentice, in charge of the circle and the workers while I am gone. You may consider him to be my will while I am away. Any who should disobey him will answer to me when I return." He waited a moment to let those words sink in,then continued. You may be recieving aid in the near future, I cannot say when or in what form, only that you will know when it has arrived. Stay in the city, earn as much silver as you can, and study whenever possible. I expect you all to be ready to resume your duties when I return. That is all, go now, and await my return." With those words the men began to shuffle out of the tiny room, he stoped his aprentice to talk with him. "I have trained you well. Use what you have learned to guide the circle. And watch the general, I fear he means to run the circle for himself. You have my permsisison to whatever is neccessary, short of killing him, to keep him in line. I promise on my life that your studies in the magical arts will resume. I will be back. I expect you to keep the circle in order and to be ready when I return." With that the aprentice was away, and he again sat in silence in his tiny room. This would be the last night he would spend in this retched shack. The morning would bring new lands, new oportunities. And hopefully, new sources of silver and power. ` Grinnning, the Commander began to prepare the neccessary elements for the mornings trip. Crossing the gate into the ether-relams required large amounts of mana, he must be prepared to channel the flows. The actual act of enterng the gate was simple, returning from the ether into the physical world through another gate was another matter entirely. He could not pin point his point of emergence, he must simply grasp the first link back to the physical plain and hold tight. To get lost in the ether was to float hopelessly in the void for all eternity. He would not, could not, fail. Silently he prayed to the gods that he would emerge in an untouched and fertile land. The "private tutoring" sessions she'd been holding with him didn't add to his knowledge or skills, but had certainly improved his general disposition and outlook on life. Of course, he'd had to grant a degree to Raul and send him off on a near-certainly suicide mission for which he wasn't quite prepared, to get him out of town; apparently the Lady found the presence of her son to be somewhat inhibiting. Now, he needed to figure out how to get rid of LeFevre. LeFevre's presence in the region didn't bother the Lady particularly, but like most others in the leadership social circles, the Headmaster knew of his earlier advances toward the Lady. While the Lady viewed LeFevre with scorn for his humble origins, the Headmaster had a fair amount of respect for the hard-working ex-technician, but still, he didn't feel quite right carrying on an affair with LeFevre watching. However, the Headmaster didn't get his job because he was dull-witted; already the wheels of his mind were spinning, coming up with a plausible reason to relocate LeFevre elsewhere. Preferably to a location where there was actually a need for LeFevre's varied skills. * * * * * LeFevre, leaving his office at the school at an unfortunate time, caught a glimpse of the Headmaster entering the Lady's hut. He sighed quietly to himself, and headed for his own hut. He liked the Headmaster, and could understand why the Lady might prefer him over himself, but it still didn't make it feel any better. LeFevre figured he would have maybe another month or two conducting his special classes, and then he'd be sent away from here once again on some excuse or other. Let those who make the effort of writing amusing or useful articles receive some renumeration, the operative words being 'amusing' and 'useful' - the constant 'gimme 50' ones are a real pain and don't deserve any sort of reward. Difficult to filter, unfortunately. Well, you would be right if only useful or interesting articles could be seen in the Times. As you say, today everyone can write 'give me 50' and get the reward. Nevertheless I think the "effort of writing" has not to be rewarded... A3 is a game and not a writing contest. (And writing is a more serious effort for the foreign players who cannot write in english very well, as me :) Times is a forum for players wanting to exchange opinions, informations, etc... I think writing and reading in the Times has its own reward if you are interested. If not interested, or not having time to write something useful, why a player has to send a 'give me 50' message just for the reward? Another problem: writing articles is the only way to get some unclaimed silver. It's very painful to move units and resources to far places when your unclaimed funds are exhausted. My proposal is: let's allow to transfer silver from a unit to unclaimed funds, up to a limit of, for example, 100 silver a turn. What do you think of it, players?
