Galaxy: New Games Starting! From: alai@ix.netcom.com (Eric Bales) Date: Sun, 09 Feb 1997 00:00:00 +0000 What is galaxy? Galaxy is a strategy game in which the goal is to capture and hold as many planets as you can while designing your ships, increasing your technology and enjoying diplomatic relations with those neighbours that you are not attacking. The game typically consists of 20 - 60 other players. Where do I get the instructions and a more detailed description? Connect to: http://www.indyramp.com/harmony/ -or- if you don't have web access, you can do the following: Send email to: alai@indyramp.com With a subject of: sendme docs The mailer will automatically send you the documentation. What games are starting? I am starting three galaxy games, one of each time-flavour. columbus: This will be a three turn per week game. Turns will be run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. cincinnati: This will be a two turn per week game. Turns will be run on Tuesdays and Fridays. adams: This will be a one turn per week game. Turns will run on Wednesdays. (For those who are curious, and are aware that my games are always named after cities or areas of cities, Adams is short for Mt.Adams. My girlfriend lives in that part of Cincinnati.) Rules? Play will be by the rules as written by Russel Wallace, which are displayed on my web site. Group victories WILL NOT BE ALLOWED. A single person will be allowed only one position in each game. If it has been determined, in this GM's opinion, that the same person has been playing more than one position in a game, that person will forfeit both positions and will be banned from all future games run by this GM. Do you provide an orders checker? Yes. I have installed the galaxy checker, and a program of my own to check for some other problems with orders. If the subject line of the orders is incorrect, the message will be returned to you. Advance orders are also accepted, but are not verified by the checker. How long does it take to prepare orders? It can take 15 minutes or so to prepare your turn orders near the beginning of the game. Should you be one of the lucky ones, toward the end of the game turn orders can take an hour to prepare. Please be sure you can handle the time requirements. Tools are available for most platforms which can aid in the preparation of orders. See my website for a link to an FTP site. How long does a game last? The duration of a game is dependent on many factors, the most important of which is the number of turns per week. However, the number of players can also have a significant impact on the duration of the game. The following is a general guideline: one turn per week games: 2 years two turn per week games: 1 year three turn per week games: 6 months Please make sure you will have uninterrupted email access for the duration of the game. (Advance orders can be sent in for short vacations, but if you will be gone for summer break you will need to be sure you can make arrangements to have someone else play your position until you get back. Someone who is not already playing in the game.) How do I join? THE FOLLOWING IS CASE SENSITIVE!!! Please user lower case for everything. Send Email to: alai@indyramp.com with a subject of: join columbus -OR- join cincinnati -OR- join adams The body of the message can be left blank. It will not be seen by me. Be sure and send the Email from the account that you will be playing the game from, as the Email address will be pulled off of the headers of your mail. If your Email is sent with an improper subject it will be returned to you. You may join as many games as you want. I do not limit the number of players in my games. Again, the games are: columbus: three turns per week cincinnati: two turns per week adams: one turn per week Happy conquests! -- alai@ix.netcom.com -Eric Bales- http://www.indyramp.com/harmony/ -The Second Dolphin- Dolphins.
