Players take control of entities--either countries or companies--and attempt to bring that entity to power. Companies must build production facilities, buy inputs, raise revenue, sell stock and engage in corporate espionage. Countries must build cities, care for its citizens, attract business, develop militaries and try to maintain world peace. Often the lines between entity types blur as companies raise private armies and turn to underground markets for revenue, and companies must engage in business activities to fund a world wide arms race. Game information is displayed in graphical format on the Web site. Here players log on to read a newspaper, check maps and graphs, negotiate via a threaded discussion board, and otherwise survey the state of affairs. During each game cycle (usually about a week each), players submit their actions via email or from the Web site. Following each game cycle players are emailed a detailed status report regarding their entities performance, assets and transactions. The game, because it is human moderated, is incredibly flexible--adapting itself to whatever the players desire to do. And some of the players can get pretty creative.
