PBM Games Listings From: summit@easynet.co.uk (Steve Walker) Date: Fri, 07 Mar 1997 00:00:00 +0000 When it comes to finding a service that does nothing more than provide potential new players with a List of PBM games that they can try out you would think that the Internet would be bursting at the seams. Sadly this isn't the case at all. PBMCom who used to provide a steady reliable source of info seem to have disappeared completely despite promising to return PBMNet have let's face it turned into a complete joke. A nice looking joke, but a joke none the less. Despite being on line for ages and ages we are still greeted with the re-assuring message that the Listing is being compiled and 'No entries are available'. The reason for this is supposed to be the "general apathy" in the PBM world which I find a bit strange. Tightbeam are I'm sorry to say heading the same way. On the very very few occasions it gets updated it's to tell us that it's about to be updated! Now I *know* that these sites are maintained for free. I *know* they are busy people merely doing the hobby as a whole a favour. If that means that they can't be criticised then I apologise but since when did doing something for free mean that you could do it badly? The fact is that Greg Lindahls PBM Games page is now the only reliable well run site of its type on the internet, at least as far as I know. I've had various 'discussions' on here with Greg in the past as I don't like his attitude to some aspects of PBM and this newsgroup, but credit where it's due. His List is regularly updated, well laid out and is growing all the time. It is definitely *the* place to go and I would advise anyone looking for a new game to try to save themselves a lot of time and trouble by heading straight for it. Guess I'd better re-submit Summit Soccerleague then <G> Steve Walker Summit Soccerleague http://easyweb.easynet.co.uk/~summit/ Referenced By Up
