PLR> When the AG order first came in, there was a limit of 1000 gold per order, appararently to stop fraud. It must have been realised this was a very excessive waste of orders for the kinds of volume shifted, so the order was changed - it still only allowed 15000 gold per turn, but you didn't have to waste your entire turn doing so - something even the lifers weren't keen on doing...This was well explained in CrasiQuest, I can't speak for KJC...nice one Andy :-) JPG> Ah, but they allowed 15K per _order_ at one stage, and now it's down to 15K per turn. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Hooper, Allan" Allan.Hooper@ratec.raufossas.no Date: Thu, 27 Feb 1997 09:47:49 +0100 >JPG> Apparently it's a 'bug fix'. Hmm. I guess if we complain >about it enough we'll get them to change it back again. AH> I've never seen the need for alliances to hand out vast sums to it members to use 'free' each turn and have always considered it a 'bug' (or at least a big oversight) that they could. I agree about KJC informing us about Quest changes though. JPG> Now that strength skill costs 100 xp as it always should have done, I don't see free handouts as a problem. The alliance has to pay for the upkeep and other stuff, so it must be careful that it doesn't give away so much that it never makes a profit. Shadows Ink. on Khazalid (G11) offer 45K for use on any form of training (not buying items) at the alliance HQ. This is so eventually we make a profit from the training. >JPG> Has the multiple engage method of combat been disabled >recently? AH> Thats what Gerry Duffy the G14 (and First Class magazine) editor thinks. Probably for the best (group combat wise). I think I can count about nine changes to Quest (some big and well documented, some small and minor) since the reduction of TQ rewards. Some I havent seen mentioned in the digest are: AH> NPC classes - (also from G14 newsletter) e.g. a Dwarf Vagabond. I havent got to see any NPC's up close (which survive the magic phase) myself. AH> Group Steals - (maybe just my imagination) two failed steals orders on the same group in the same turn is needed to start a fight (even for groups with no thief). AH> Dungeon monsters overground - one of my groups found tracks of a Gargoyle above ground. I've never heard of these being seen above ground before - does this mean we have monster 'raids' from dungeons now, or just tougher monsters are being made to wander the 'overworld'? AH> Fearsome monsters (mentioned in KJC news but I havent seen it discussed here) - 'Our fear overcame our bravery', weak groups flee from powerful monsters. This is presumably to prevent new 6 member parties from wandering into a large group of Monks and being torn new arses. AH> However to put 'weak' groups into perspective my group had 15 characters all with 50+ To, great axes, longbows, AR10, a 60+sk mage, 15 ACE(100) weaponskills and still ran from a Valkerie before they could be damaged. Okay, my group couldnt have hit it in melee but I would have been content to be battered down to my flee% (isnt that what a flee% is for?). AH> I cant quite see the point in having such hard monsters if groups flee before they can be damaged and then, when tougher, the groups just Globe the buggers. Perhaps it should take a few rounds of melee before the groups realises their weapons have no effect and then do a runner. AH> Finally - if any G3 players (whether their groups are friends, neutrals or enemies) want to talk about the state of the game or Quest >in general then feel free to mail me, all messages replied to. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Kent kbakke@sn.no Date: Fri, 28 Feb 1997 00:02:33 +0100 (MET) I have some questins for all you long time quest players. I hope someone knows the answers. 1) I have 4 chars. that can't train themselves anymore. If I buy a wp-skill training, will they be able to train themselves anymore after they have been instructed?????? 2) If a char. cannot train himself anymore with a Gr.Sword will he be able to increase his sword skill by training with another sword e.g long sword????? 3) I have a shop that is named Gypsy Rose Flea in a city near one of my groups, but it doesn't sell any services and I can't find out anymore about it. What is the purpose of this shop???? JPG> Forgive me for jumping in early, but 1) no, 2) no, 3) got me there! Flea market? Flea circus? Fortune telling? Or just a novel name for 'Ruined Hovel', 'Orphanage', 'Assassins Guild'? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Author: INTERNET:T.E.Harberd@uea.ac.uk at CSERVE Date: 27/02/97 14:09 > AH> Lets see if I can manage a partially readable message this time :) > > >There are a couple of things that should be added I think. > >Retreating > >from a fight should be very risky, as your opponent could > >possibly > >shoot > >missiles or cast spells at you while you are retiring. > > AH> Considering that tough groups can kill 10+ out of 15 > characters in a > single fight are you sure your retreating ideas are wise? > Although they > would help against those who run with unnecessarily low > flee%'s it would > spell party wipeout for outclassed groups. > TH> Why don't KJC implement a quick program which calculates a rough statistic of how strong each group is, and then compares them. And ultra-strong group which then attacks a beginners group is then informed that the other group ran away because they were so scared, or something like that. Fights within quite a large range of comparison are allowed though, so that while you could lose up to, say, about eight players, you would never be completely wiped out in one battle. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Author: INTERNET:UKWegner@aol.com at CSERVE Date: 02/03/97 09:17 Magic Rings- There has been the question if they work. Well, I've used four rings in a duel with another player (Ring of Double Strength, Ring of Magic Protection, 2 Rings of Protection). The Ring of Double Strength is working fine, the other rings didn't have any effect. The message was "...feels nothing", my group has been hit by magic, and the wearer of the rings of protection (mages) didn't feel very protected. After using the Ring of Double Strength, I've got the message"...feels much more stronger", and strength has doubled... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From : "List,SD,Stu,NAT11,LISTSD M" LISTSD@boat.bt.com Date : Mon, 03 Mar 97 14:29:00 GMT Stu> My party tried to resurrect a priest who was killed in combat. Having been told that resurrection would cost "1000 gold plus" in the blurb which appeared when resurrection was first available, I was quite shocked to find that the temple tried to charge 7100 gold. Surely nobody is worth that much. The priest in question was not particularly highly skilled. Needless to say, I didn't bother - it's much cheaper to recruit another priest at 1001 gold (although so far I've had no luck finding a suitable replacement). I wondered if anybody else has encountered such excessive charges for resurrecting dead party members. If this is normal then it's not worth having the facility! JPG> Think of how much you'll spend on a character in its lifetime. 250 gold per 7% weapons increase. Melee, missile from say 30 -> 100 is 5000 gold. Skill training (for some characters), strength training spell research, etc. And the amount of turns it takes priests to get a really high skill too! In some cases it may well be worth it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "M.B.Walker -Ben Walker" M.B.Walker@open.ac.uk Date: Thu, 06 Mar 97 14:59:00 GMT Anyone who has played It's A Crime or Warlord will be familiar with the top 5 tables you get each turn showing who is the toughest, richest, biggest, etc. Why don't we have the same in Quest ? Everyone likes to boast about how great they are, so why not make it official. One way it could work is by having an extra section in the newspaper bought from towns and cities. Each purchase would give you a top 5 listing randomly selected from several categories e.g. Wealthiest, Most Skillfull, Most Mage Spells Known, Toughest, Least Charismatic, Largest Alliance, Best Armoured etc. This might boost sales of newspapers as currently there is very little point in buying one. It will also help groups decide which alliance to join, which groups to avoid, and who would be a good target for robbing. Any comments ???? Also, do any CrasiQuest players know if the special routines for NPCs / dungeons / magic items are ever going to see the light of day ? Also are the rumours game specific e.g. if the Temple of the One in the Nightfire Mountains is mentioned in the Crasimoffs Chronicles, is it accessible to all games, or just one. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sender: UKWegner@aol.com Date: Thu, 6 Mar 1997 18:06:00 -0500 (EST) In German Quest Game 5 I've got a temple mission- task was to eliminate a fire elemental, worth 1470 gp. I couldn't resist...I knew it would be impossible to hurt an elemental with normal weapons. The German info text about 202 "Flammen" [flames?] tells it would be possible after using this wonder to hurt monsters which couldn't be hurt with normal weapons. Well, I've used it, I think, I heard the elemental laughing... Two "Magischer Schlag" [Magic Blast] got through, my group fled after eleven combat rounds, with two mages really hurt, and none of my fighters hurt the elemental (weapons used were axes or Swords +1 or better, and waepon skill of all 15 charakters 100). In my next try I tested "Waffenweihe III" [Weapon Enhancement 3?] and "Waffenweihe II" [Weapon Enhancement 2?] for the fighters only. One priest used 303 "Zorn des Sundonak" [Wrath of Sundonak?], another 503 "Ythcals Beruehrung" [Ythcals Touch?]. My only character with a distance waepon (halfblood thief with bow +2) hit him and caused a light wound. Now the elemental was't laughing but fleeing- my fighters didn't get any to do. This my group repeated two times more, and the summary? I needed four tries, the elemental was killed by eight Magic Blasts, three Wrath of Sundonak (the last in my fourth trial killed him), two Ythcals Touch and two weapon enhanced bowshots with a bow +2. If I meet my next elemental I will test weapon enhancement for my fighters only, and perhaps four axes +3 will be enough- if not, I will get a lesson by the elemental... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: KVirgin@vines.etn.com Date: 10 MAR 97 11:31:42 EST Does anyone actually know what text characters are allowed to be used in Party and Character names? An apostrophe for instance seems to work Okay in a party name but not in a character name, hence my party member Cherry S'Vage became Cherry S. I recently had a character killed and recruited a new one, I liked the old character name, but obviously didn't want to use the same name (don't want any clones running around Kharne, do we?) so I used the name with the addition of II on the end (to represent "the second"). It came back wrong the first time so I queried it with KJC and was told that "the system does not support this format", but they did change the name to what I'd asked for. The only drawback is that I will have to rename the character if I ever want to get rid of him, as the Xpell order will not recognise him either! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: INTERNET:nik@science.btc.uwe.ac.uk at CSERVE Date: 3/16/97 8:20PM NIK> So how many QD readers are starting a group(s) in KJC's newest Quest game (18)? Firstly, if you do a `Buy - 99 - Bank paying in - Amount' order, all the gold amount that you put is deposited into your account, or all the money your party holds if the total is less than the amount. This works regardless of which characters have how much gold. e.g. If you do a `B 99 (Bank paying in) 100' your group will deposit 100 gold into their account, or less if they don't have that much. Your group will NOT try to deposit 100 gold per man. Finally, if you do a `Buy - 99 - Bank withdraw - Amount' order, the amount of gold you specify is distributed evenly among all your characters. e.g. if you do a `Buy - 99 - Bank withdraw - 100' order and you have ten characters, your characters get 10 gold each, total 100 gold. Your characters do NOT try to withdraw 100 gold each (as someone told me they did). I'm sorry if you already know all of this stuff, but hopefully it will be of benefit to _someone_. I wish someone would have told it to me, as I would have had a few extra orders as a result. I don't suppose there is any other info out there that may be useful? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sender: KWasley@compuserve.com Date: Mon, 24 Mar 1997 14:08:43 -0500 KW> I have been running a monster hunt in game 10 quest newsletter.
