[PBeM] World of Barador game seeking new players (long) From: djorgen104@aol.com (DJorgen104) Date: Tue, 01 Apr 1997 00:00:00 +0000 I'm looking for a few new players to make up for attrition in my online game. Below I've included some background on the campaign. If you're interested in playing, email me. Background and campaign history: The adventure had started so simply. A group of down-and-out adventurers, short on luck and trying to make ends meet. Fate had drawn them all together to answer a bulletin posted in a little roadside tavern on the edge of a sleepy little seaside village called Pearl Harbor. Soon they found themselves hired by a mysterious woman to investigate the ruins of an old tower just south of the city, on the bluffs overlooking the town's graveyard. The woman, Lady Ashira Delandros, Duchess of DragonReach, confided that there was more to this mission than simply investigating the old ghost stories which had risen anew in recent weeks in the taverns and inns. Her daughter had gone adventuring in the tower a week ago and had not yet returned. The next morning, the adventurers gathered. Derek Siward, the handsome, hunky warrior. Kasandra, the mysterious lady with the swords. Dalew, the noble paladin. Malar, the mage in blue. And Marissa Delandros, the Duchess' other daughter, sent to oversee the progress of the adventurers. They left town, full of excitement and ready to face any challenge. That first challenge: A pack of rather large brown bears, easily skirted by bizarre means; Marissa knew the bears personally! Soon enough they had reached the tower, where they met other adventurers preparing to delve into its collapsed depths. Caelathala, the elven cleric; Rockfist the dwarven warrior; Ranole, the bard with the name which rhymes with canole; Samantha, the druid; Jarian, the dark elf; and several others who they did not have a true chance to get to know before the dangers of the tower claimed them. In the depths of the tower, they managed to safely rescue Nei, the magical beast the Duchess had created in an experiment and raised as her own child. They also rescued-- the Duchess? Or so they thought, as they discovered the woman was Ashira's twin. That night, the party returned to the town to report to the Duchess, only to be ordered to return to the tower the next morning. The next morning went poorly. The party returned to the castle and delved into its catacombs, where they found the Sea Amazon Tosca, a Knight Templar on a mission of vengeance upon the pirates that plagued the Eastern Seas. Battle ensued as the party was overwhelmed by the goblin servant of a cult that worshipped the Serpent god, Set. This was grave news indeed, for the Duchess drafted volunteers for a mighty quest. The cult could mean only one thing. Set was once more attempting to walk the world of mortals in his bid to destroy all existence. The tower and the cult were destroyed by the Draconia Salamanders, sent forth by the Queen to keep the peace. The party splintered. Many were cowards unable to deal with the challenges at hand. But many remained to fight on. The party, shrank from its greatest size of 12 members down to a mere handful. Derek, Marissa, Ranole, Samantha, Tosca and Jarien were all that remained. It was time to move on. They moved quickly, travelling far south, using the Teleport Stations to reach the city of Olympia to claim the first of the artifacts of Mishra, the Goddess of Vigilance and Tenacity Against Evil. Mishra herself opposed Set with every last breath she had as a mortal and continued her vengeful struggle against him in the afterlife as a god. They claimed the ring from a priestess who gave it forth willingly. The next day, the headed for the next artifact, a pendant. They took the teleport stations to Shining, where they rested, and hired a ship to cross the Inner Sea. Fortune smiled upon them as they hired an old friend of Marissa, an elf named Faeryl Dawnstar, a member of the Royal family of Fangalorne, doomed to anonymity by being 12th in line for the throne. Here, they were joined by an operative sent upon the same mission by the Vampire Queen of Barador. This woman, Kalathon, helped while she could as she fulfilled her own mission directives. Passage was not without trouble. In the dark of night, those who opposed the party sent forth their warriors, armed with the technological relics of the ancients. The party fared well and fate smiled upon them once more as a booby trap on one of the bodies backfired. Soon they arrived at a small village to head inland for their goal. At the village, a trap was sprung. New adventurers joined the party (Merari, the mysterious man with a disturbing past; Missi, the Faerie preistess runesinger, servant of Mishra; and the enigmatic Chakara, a faerie with strange magical capabilities.) but trouble shattered the original group. Danger loomed ahead and no one could take charge to make a decision for the group. They split into two groups, to meet at the base of the lone pinnacle upon which the Council of Liches had built their castle. In the night, half the party which had headed inland from the village were slaughtered by the might Death Knights, evil creatured of undeath which few could challenge. The others had returned to sea to land ashore once more many miles to the north, avoiding the slaughter. These survivors, unaware of the fate of their errant companions, forge ahead, approaching the Liche's Castle and perhaps their own destinies as well. The Details: The party is currently composed of: Merari: a halfbreed dark elf- faerie- dragatta warrior mage.
