Atlantis 3.0: Times 41 From: Geoff Dunbar <gdunbar@prankster.com> Date: Sun, 06 Apr 1997 00:00:00 +0000 Subject: Atlantis 3.0: Times 41 Atlantis 3.0 Times May, 4 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Email admin30@prankster.com with game issues. Visit http://www.prankster.com (or email atlantis@prankster.com) for information or to join. There is a new set of rules on the web and ftp site. Just a couple of small clarifications regarding sailing. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Efficient Empire (119): Spoils from Skeletons This turn I attacked some Skeletons. These monsters had been blocking me since midway through the first year. I overkilled them, but 1 was surprised by the variety of the spoils. Defenders: Undead (6072), 43 skeletons [SKEL] (Combat 2, Hits 1), 2 undead [UNDE] (Combat 3, Hits 6). Northern Orc Det-OIC (10276) gets a free round of attacks. Undead (6072) loses 45. Undead (6072) is routed! Total Casualties: Undead (6072) loses 45. Damaged units: 6072. Northern Orc Det-OIC (10276) loses 0. Spoils: 1341 silver [SILV], 8 rootstone [ROOT], 6 ironwood [IRWD], cashmere [CASH], 3 crossbows [XBOW], tarot cards [TARO], 2 herbs [HERB], horse [HORS], 2 cotton [COTT], jewelry [JEWE], 2 chain armor [CARM], 8 grain [GRAI], figurines [FIGU], perfume [PERF], mink [MINK], wine [WINE], 4 iron [IRON], 8 livestock [LIVE], roses [ROSE], 2 spices [SPIC], 2 pearls [PEAR], stone [STON], 5 fish [FISH], wood [WOOD], plate armor [PARM]. Bill , Efficient Empire (WLarson730@aol.com) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Diastrophism (83): That was silly of them to declare me hostile.... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ We run and we bow ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Golden Empire (189): Give me the judgement of balanced minds in preference to laws every time. Codes and manuals create patterned behaviour. All patterned behaviour tends to go unquestioned, gathering destructive momentum. - Darwi Odrade ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Baal wandered around the growing base of operations, still located next to the gate he arrived through. Yes, things were moving now that winter was well past. Already the scouts had reported finding rich woodlands nearby. Also, a tribe of eskimos had offered to support his growing empire with healers and herbalists. And just this week, a group of friendly wood elves had been discovered deep in the wilderness. Baxtian's picket lines were going out this week, providing some early warning in case of danger, and the taxes were beginning to accumulate. Yes, things were definitely looking up. "Now if we could only find some horses and some iron" thought Baal as he headed back to his studies... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Why has everyone else got more/better troops than me? It's not fair. Boo,hiss!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ My mages are getting a bit flabby around the waist. I must put then on some type of exercise program. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The infantry showed up as ordered but where did the archers run off to. Heads are going to roll over this snafu, but whose? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ These tunnels just go on and on. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To the %#$^$@ whos's blocking units from leaving Dunster: Look dammit! I want out of Dunster. I don't give a damn about your stupid territorial squabbles. I don't want to stick around, I just want to get out of this stinking gate city. Can't we just all get along? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Peace talks have fallen apart. They were but a glimmer of hope. We must again pick up our bloodied swords and march back into the battle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The monzoon is drawing nearer and nearer. Will the orders needed come through? Will the peasants and the soldiers get their acts together before it is too late? Only time will tell... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ As I drain your life^s blood sweetly As you sigh into my warm hands As I suck your madness neatly Streaming down like crimson bands I dance the dance of the fool And pray you find me mad For if you lay hands upon the root You^ll know me, without illusion And find me guilty of the truth Malkav's words to his childer ------------------------------------------------------------------------ He who can gain advantage from the small, is Big. He who can gain advantage from being last, is First. See ya at the front. Sucka! -tunnelrat ------------------------------------------------------------------------ How many orcs does it take to change a lightbulb? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ What would you think of a "FOLLOW" order ? It would allow a one man unit to follow another unit, provided he has enough mouvment point and that the followed unit cannot see the follower. House Acoma ------------------------------------------------------------------------ C'e qualche giocatore Italiano in Atlantis ? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Queen Echidna looked around the plain. Surprisingly she was still alive. The enemy who had outnumbered her men by ten to one had not attacked, instead allowing her to flee to the main force of the Esgaroth army. She was glad, this was such an interesting world. She looked around her army. Enough to defeat the evil invader? Perhaps, perhaps not. Whatever happened the colonies on the south-eastern island and in the north would survive and continue the fight with the help of Antanta and the others. If it was defeat she did not fear death. Those who worshipped the Red Falling Star believed in reincarnation. And spaceships carrying the faithful to new worlds... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ready to take on all comers again. Will I ever kill those damned undead. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Too poor for a bribe, and too proud to importune, He had not the method of making a fortune. Thomas Gray ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Eggman's Men (223): > I drive men mad > For love of me, > Easily beaten, > Never free. > What am I? Gold, though silver applies as well, so gimme 50! > Did nothing come of the talk about being able to pay silver back into > "unclaimed"? Maybe Geoff doesn't read the Times like us self-respecting players do. :) > I thought that was a very good idea, with some limits, of course. > > How about:- > > No more than the original 5000 silv. Good idea, I'd vote for that. > Only one lump sum payment allowed per game year. A lump sum within reason, say 500 silver. However, I think allowing transfer of 50 or 100 silver per turn would work better, then there's no need to keep track of who has done a transfer how long ago. > Can come from any unit, but only at a Gate City? That's pretty harsh on those who are nowhere close to a Gate City. Even limiting it to hexes with gates is still too unfair on many players. Rather permit silver to be tranferred from any hex. Exactly as Faction 258 suggests: > I propose another solution (number 4): > Eliminate any reward for Times submissions, and permit to transfer 50 silver >every turn from a player's unit to unclaimed funds. (This needs a little >program rewriting - stating a new order - but I think it's easy). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Question: Can you use ironwood to make just armored galleons, or can you make armored ships of different sizes? The shipbuilding continues apace and soon we will have true mobility on the seas. I just wish I had more silver. Sigh. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Report from the Seeker of the Way (218) ============================== * When it rains it pours. * Seekers of the Way welcomes their new ally. More news as things progress. * A viking raiding party from the southern forest approachs. The faction has made no previous attempt at communication. Our scout attempts to make contact. Meanwhile, riders from the plains are sent, just in case. * The attack on the town continues. * Our Master Armorer thinks that he has found the secret to mithril armor. Again, more information to come. Question: Does magical healing show up on the attack report? rlp@crystal.cirrus.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Despite someone's success at misleading me, let me assure you that BUIL3 and PATT3 do not give one access to any new spells! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ You can study really neat things with FORC-5, SPIR-5 and PATT-5 combined! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Gale is NOT going to die because of the little problems of today. Tomorrow we will be even stronger. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Just one little question: Is it healthy to declare 2 hostile? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Seekers (40): Hint for the week: Kill dragons for cool magic items that you have no idea how to use. Rumors of GALE instablity? Well we could use a bit more war around here to spice things up. Which reminds me UNCLE, declares war on SEP. We should have killed a thouand or so SEP troops in Dunster by the time this mailed. Not a big deal, just a bunch of combat 2 fodder with no weapons. We'll get some good spoils when we advance on Stroma next. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Pigs! They're everywhere you want to be... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Remember, today could just as easily be the LAST day of the rest of your life. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3M (288): I feel like I understand " We run and we bow." Of course in my case we can't run through swamp and bows are still high tech, but it's the thought that counts. Honest Tribal Elf. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Garek stepped from the Bayonne, timing the easy surge of the ship so as not to miss the dock and tumble into the water. A real hazard, as the docks in Sinan were composed of Upper-range Scrubtree lumber. "Who the hell built this piece of crap?" Garek looked over at his friend and grinned. He was continualy amazed how his friend, a Dilbian Scout, was constantly demonstrating the ability to read his mind. "Not very sporting of them, building a damn dock out of wood that becomes so slick when it gets wet that the bark slips off!" Garek chuckled in response. The long voyage was finally at an end and they could get down to business. Speaking of business.... Garek looked around at the carnage that led up to the docks. The streets were strewn with cast-off armor and swords. Both would need cleaning before they could be used. He had no idea what the previous owners thought maintaining their equipment was about, but he was sure the original designer of the sword did NOT think it should be left in a pile of horse dung. He chuckled again. Not all the piles were from horses. It would be a shame to let such cowards get away. But Garek didn't think the rest of his COBRA allies would allow that to happen... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Am i the only one to notice, that during the last few turns, nobody seems to have detected new magic spells. Makes me curious ... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Anchormen (171): Surprise attacks work best the first time when the battle doesn't end indecisively. Looks like the desert will be the place for bloodshed for many turns to come. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ SEP -- Vulnerability is a direct function of the number of enemies you have. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ - "Sire, I bring grave news." * "What?" - "Our production of grain cannot finance your magical studies before october, you must cease your work or the men will starve." * "No problem, just take it from the treasury as last month and the month before that." - "There are but a few pieces of silver left." * "Oh dear...." ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Gating doesn't work if you are not already at a gate!!! :-( ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Huge battles were rumoured from the North. High Lord Kevin Sharpe paced, anxious to here from the scouts in that area. Known for their toughness ('Could eat glass' was the rumour) these scouts were sure to report their findings immediately. 'My Lord Sharpe,' a runner approached. 'Speak, man.' 'The rumours are true, my lord. A large skirmish was fought to the north, with casualties hgh on both sides.' So much for crossing the ocean, thought Sharpe. 'Call the War Council, and request the Emperor's presence. There's work to do...' ------------------------------------------------------------------------ We have created a monster--enormously valuable and even useful yet extremely dangerous. Our monster is both beautiful and terrifying. We do not dare use this monster to its full potential, but we cannot release our grasp upon it. --Gowachin assessmen of the Dosadi experiment ------------------------------------------------------------------------ With this ring I behead! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Magic I love Magic! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ IS THIS COOL OR WHAT? plain (X,X) in Kovel, contains Darm [village], 1173 peasants (vikings), $7038. For Sale: 234 vikings [VIKI] at $64, 46 leaders [LEAD] at $128. Entertainment available: $351. Products: 51 livestock [LIVE], 32 horses [HORS]. Exits: North : ocean (x) in Atlantis Ocean. Northwest : ocean (x) in Atlantis Ocean. It would be even better if it was a forest or swamp though. (Wood) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Why did the Chicken cross the road? This question is a deep probe into the basic structure of the subject's mind. Can such a question even by framed in such a way as to keep it's meaning from being lost in translation? Is it possible that through various quantum level properties the chicken might not have crossed the road, atleast from the perspective of the observer? Indeed, perhaps the road passed underneath the chicken from a rock's frame of reference? Or is the world but an incoherent mass of electrons spinning due to inherent forces in place due to the motion of quarks and smaller sub atomic particles? One cannot attempt to percieve the intentions of the subject chicken until one has a grasp of the quantum level interactions taking place within the descision making center of the subject's brain. More basic cosmological data is needed in order to form a viable theory to explain all the processes at work. We are a long way off from understandng the chicken's basic impulses. For now we must simply accept that the chicken crossed the raod and not attempt to understand why. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Shadowdragons (24): As Azthar is wont to rant in these pages, I believe it is time for the Nameless to speak out as well. There is war between GALE and us and there will remain such until one side exhausts itself. Azthar and I are in agreement that no negotiations are possible or desired. The Nameless are now on their way to Helsicke and will continue, despite pirate attacks and bombastic opponents. Sinan will be repaired after COBRA has skulked back into the sea. Of minor note were the deaths of five SEP mages who discovered the Nameless Mountains are a treacherous place. While this front does not have the grand scope of the GALE conflict, we still plan to pursue it to the gates of Durness. On the peaceful side, the University continues to expand a constant rotation of classes ore taught every month. Unattached factions are still welcome and need have no concerns about the distant conflicts. Davros, Lord of the Shadowdragons ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The GALE problem: ----------------- Why GALE want to crush every other faction and alliances ? Why do GALE member accept to blindly follow one man ? Bureaucraty and tyranny, is that what we want ? Oh yes, build a mighty empire, but being puppets ? Maybe they do bot like happyness ? Or maybe jealous ? And what will they do, when nobody stand against them, When there's no one to fight ? Decadence and revolt; The enemy within. I'm far from the front, but i say I will send money to help those who are attacked by GALE For i despise half-witted nuts who think that killing and destroying factions are the only enjoyable apect of Atlantis. Oh when they'll find me they'll sure crush me, for i only have taxers, no warriors, and my skills are in building things, and Isphara the city of 99 towers is the proof. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The best way to stop a thief is to steal his tools. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Winter is approaching, guess ill have to wait a while.. DO! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Y'know, I think if you have warriors amd they have vodka [VODK], I think their combat rating should be 1 higher than it normally is. However, they will never run away from a potential fight. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Blue Wizards (294): In reviewing some of the earliest Atlantis Times issues, the argument on the 50 silver is as old as the game. I will trust to the wisdom of Geoff, that it works as best as it can and needs no changing. I think many of you would be surprised how much the quality articles in the times would shrink without the reward. This is the last thing this faction will say on the topic: Yes, I will submit even wimpy entries to keep the 50 silver coming. I will try to contribute satisfactory content whenever I have the time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ .......TIME....... BladesMaster ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Constitution of Liberty (230): Support Tomaz Hagglund=EFs Monster Guide (http://www.student.tdb.uu.se/~m96thd/GOD/monster.html) Troll Pack, 4 trolls [TROL] (Combat 3, Hits 4). TACT < 3 Spoils: 136 silver [SILV], 3 chain armor [CARM], 2 crossbows [XBOW], sword [SWOR], 5 vodka [VODK]. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ observation [OBSE] 2: No skill report. sailing [SAIL] 2: No skill report. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ There is a time to fight and a time for peace; we have to manage both of them now! A proud galean. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I hear there is a spell to tame liches end ------------------------------------------------------------------------ As was usual for him on a Sunday morn, Keltar took the shoreline highway as he walked to the docks. The waves always soothed his soul even despite months of tyranny under the Dragon Lords and their foul brethren. Nearing the dockyards where he worked, Keltar stopped and gazed at the horizon, for he saw some low clouds on the horizon. No, it wasn't low dark clouds that brough rain, but wispy white powder puffs. And, yes, they were getting larger as if they were headed directly for Sinan. He watched for several minutes, and now he could ascertain that these were sails billowing in the wind. His curiosity piqued and he loitered a bit knowing in the back of his mind that he would have the whip from the foreman if he was late. By the end of sunrise, he could see them. A great man-o-war and three large catamarans with crab-claw shaped sails all bearing a banner on the highest mast - a cobra sinking its fangs in a rat. Keltar knew at that moment that these were the long awaited liberators that they had prayed for. *CRACK* The whip stung his back. Keltar knew that that one would make a permanent scar. "To work you scurvy scum!" Yelled the Dragon Knight. He wheeled his great black steed and unsheathed his giant axe. The knight was an awesome sight, and fearsome too, in his polished black armor and blood red shield emblazoned with a shadow of a dragon's head, maw opened. "Yes, M'lord" Replied Keltar rushing to the dock with his head bowed. And, yet, he thought, he must tell the others. ----------- ----------- ----------- As the fleet pulled into the quant port of Sinan, hundreds of elves flocked to the docks, cheering, only to be dispersed by the haughty Dragon Lords. Keltar sat sheltered from the view of the Nameless lords behind a row of crates. A great cry arose from the four great ships. "VICTORY AND LIBERTY!" Keltar could see numerous men, their tame orcs, several sea elf sailors - cousins to Keltar's kin, a trio of furry things, and a single bandaged something wearing a loose light brown cloak. They began to organize themselves into squads, platoons, and companies - mostly in uniforms of white bearing the symbol of a lotus or in royal purple, a few wearing other colors; all bearing the cobra symbol. The Nameless army congregated on the dock prepared to strike at the liberating force. As soon as the marine force landed, a violent confrontation ensued with much fireworks to accompany it. ----------- ----------- ----------- After a week of battle, the stragglers of the Nameless army holed up in the government district of the village and the liberators emancipated Keltar and his brethren. But will these strangers stay to protect Sinan, or did their plans call for them to leave again? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Paw, People just ain't talkin' sense. PS : N..... is not strong enough. (never) PPS : You think we have nothing but rename our scouts to do ? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Nostalgia time here. Atlantis 2 just ended, in a last gasp of electrons. For the D'tark Conspiracy (804), it was a bittersweet time. It had started it's life GENERIC, going to WAR MAGIC, and finally full MAGIC. It was a member of the proud IUN (Imperial Union of Nairn), though it played the game imperfectly. Because it was inclined to show other factions mercy, it was surrounded, and lost tactical advantage in the expansion race to the Rangers, who played the game well. The Conspiracy ended out its time in A2, trapped in Elgomaar in a magical blizzard. Like a scene out of Stalingrad, forces were starved down, while elite Ranger commando teams ran rampant in the surrounding countryside. Lessons learned: Unity is good, lots of factions involved is better, strong alliance is best. Never, ever split your combat force. Always carry an OBS 5 guy STE 5 guys are fun to play with, but stinks when other factions do it to you. Negotiate from a position of strength. Always keep the overall goal in mind. That guy on your border might make a better friend than enemy. Know the rules, know the rules, know the rules. It's just a game. It's role-playing for a reason. People like to be someone different once in a while. Hope it helps. I'm applying a lot of what I learned into this game. The other thing to remember is that that game is gone, the Conspiracy is gone, and the persona/faction I play now bears little resemblance to the A2 persona. I'll see you around. D'tark no longer ------------------------------------------------------------------------ what kinds of magic items are people getting from monster unit and what monsters have them? So far I've found dragons, liches and ogres have magical items(some I have no idea what they do.) Any others? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Here's an idea. Switch the 50 silver reward from a times post to orders sumbission. Leave the times as is with signed and unsigned articles, but with no reward. Unclaimed silver is very useful, but shouldn't be based on dedicating energy to the times. Give the 50 silver for sending in orders, not an article. Just my 2 [SILV] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ No time to write an article. Gimme 50. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sim Nation (253): New Factions: If you have questions about the game, I am happy to answer them free of charge or obligation. My alliance of choice is the AIF. If you are looking for a strong alliance based away from the starting cities, we might be what you are looking for. I am personally interested in finding a mostly Trade faction to work with. If you fall into any of these categories, please feel free to contact me at ryanhill@wolfenet.com. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ In the sky at night a bright star can be seen that was not there before. Word has it, that the is the last gasp of the solar system from which the occupants of this world came. Once again a world ends. At least this one died with a bang and not a whimper. To all those who have have given us the opportunity to play Atlantis 1, Atlantis 2, and now Atlantis 3. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To anyone who is curious, the world ends at 190. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dear Brother, We landed today! Right in the middle of enemy territory! I can't believe where they sent us, Durness. I don't know what the high command is thinking, but THEY have to be CRAZY! What can we possibly do while surrounded by SEP? I just hope I live through this fiasco. Oh, tell Mom and Peggy Sue that I got a promotion. I'm a battalion commander now, with more pay and twice as many headaches. Seems that a lot of locals resent the treatment SEP has been giving them. I guess the Specialists we brought with us has something to do with their attitiude. Or maybe it's all the Silver :) There's been lots of rumors flying around camp of what's going to happen. The galleons are suppose to arrive in <CENSORED>. I'll be glad when they make it. Also, our allies are suppose to make an attack on the <CENSORED> front. Well, I have to go. We're moving out toward the <CENSORED>. Tell everyone that I love them. And take care of Peggy Sue if I don't make it back. Hey, I heard the other day that someone in the UNCLE alliance is leaking map information to Nameless, but the information being leaked was originally leaked to UNCLE by someone in GALE. But, I also heard the exact same rumor from someone else, except that the map information was going from Nameless to GALE, again via UNCLE. UNCLE: Tell us your secrets, and we'll sell them to your enemies. Or maybe not. Who can tell? They're only rumors... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Big Jim paced back and forth. The waiting was getting to him. By the look of smoke on the horizon, the bad guys would be there soon. He just hoped that his scouts found a new, safe hiding place... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Grey Company (49): The Grey Company News Agency May, Year 4 ====================================================================== NEWS The company is looking for magic-faction. We will fund you and teach you. WAR The attack on Helmsley draws near. Scouts reports that the city-guards are unaware of of the treat from the north and that business goes on as usual at the town square. A colony of sandling has been discovered close to Morella and a party of vikings has been sent out to clean 'em out. TRADE The company's trade-ally will arrive in Morella this turn, ready to expand the production in the area. Reports say that we will be able to produce several hundred swords and at least one hundered mithril swords per turn soon. MAGIC The company's allied magicians will reach Gate 4 in a few turns. / The Grey Company jegt@aleph.se or jegt@dagy.danderyd.se ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I don't need to recruit factions to ally with me, I need to recruit players to take a sub-faction and run it. This is taking way to long each week! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Is there a magic college in Atlantis City, please reply here to times !! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sun Tzu said: So much for taking position in mountains. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Never call a man a fool. Borrow from him. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ May the nameless ones eat the dust of Gehenna. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Nameless, shmameless. What's the difference, as long as you're healthy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ After spending 6 months in miners school my prospectors can now tell the difference between iron and mithril. I just hope that they can survive long enough to use this knowledege. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Here I sit, broken-hearted Nope, that line's been used so dis re guard it... The Bluffer continued to wend his way deeper into the Nameless lands. Towns he found, cities he saw. Even an occasional village person or two. He used his skills of concealment more and more, for there was a dirth of men-folk of militaty age. Massive levies were forming up to head East into the rising sun, and the sinking GALE. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Black Hawk Society is massing troops to attack Aberdaraon. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Our mages make us millionaires. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ A dark day has come upon us. Forces sweep through our cities, burning our women and raping our buildings. "Shouldn't that be the other way around?", asks a young, puzzled elf. This is GALE - what do you expect? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ An ambitious new faction, the Exiles of Sakuragicho, has recently fled the Nexus. Rumour has it, they plan to seek out their long-lost sacred homeland. Rumour also has it, they have absolutely no idea where to begin looking ... If anyone has seen a long-lost sacred homeland lately, I'm sure the Exiles of Sakuragicho would be most interested in the information. Their leader, the arch-libertine Duc du Blangis, is a villainous scoundrel and not to be trusted. If you must deal with the Exiles, find another one of their leaders instead. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Yo!!! Business is booming... What could all them war factions do without me? Not much probably... POWER TO TRADERS!!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ********** NEWS FROM THE SAILORS BROTHERHOOD *********** * Lots of continents and islands in our records For privacy issues, the location of the numerous coasts discovered by our members (both via sailing and gate-jumping!) are not publicly announced in the Times. His stance showed full well the elemental power of his mighty thews, and his carriage was erect and firm. Raw fury flashed in brown eyes as his head swiftly flicked from side to side, surveying in an instant the unnatural horrors arrayed against him. Powerful thighs dug sharp claws deeply, the razor honed beak parted to issue the ancient challenge of his kind, and the chicken advanced resolutely on his unholy foe awaiting on the other side. -The Final Road, fragment of a story of his little known hero, Kluck the Conqueror, by Robert E. Perhaps CLEA-3/ARTI-3 will bring enlightenment. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ After all that effort of producing some wood what do I find but that I don't have enough capacity to carry it back to my weaponsmith! I think a certain proverb applies here: If the moutain will not go to Mohammed, Then Mohammed will go to the moutain. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Nightgaunts (191): The Alliance of Independent Factions (AIF) is, once again, proud to announce the addition of another new member: Wolfpower Inc. (266). The AIF is a democratic alliance of equals. If you are interested in becoming a member, please email us at the address below. We are especially interested in factions with a majority of their points allocated to trade. Tabor twells@shore.net AIF Diplomatic Liaison ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Fist of the White Lotus (4): No time for poetry this turn... Hopefully things won't be quite so hectic next turn. And just to make this sort of relavent: The ship would arrive in Glomera at the end of the month. Zhang Fei was glad. It was only a little desert village, and part of it he had promised to his allies, but the location was strategic, and he would be glad to hold it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ So long, GALE; I hardly knew ye. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ And for its next rick, Sven's flying circus will build a boat and sail out of here.... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Azthar is a filthy backstabber. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I need every silver for the proposed war fund. I would rather spend it on development, education, exploration, and fancy dresses. But there are some hostile people out there who won't let me. Since they've interfered with my happy dreams they must die. I'm not a nice person when I'm mad. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The general started to get restless. It had been quite a while since *they* had opened negotiations - a long statement of ideas and opening moves, for which the initial response had been returned - but since then, nothing but silence. When do you start assuming the worst. Had the message even reached them? Was it peace or war? Had they mis-interpreted something I'd said? Were they reading something into the post that wasn't there? Did they not want further discussion with me? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ rootstone can be found in the desert! Has anyone found ironwood or yew anyplace besides forests? Post to the times! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ So will someone tell me what happened? Why were there so many inconclusive battles last month? And why was I on the wrong side? Are my allies telling me something? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==================================================================== Official GALE announcements: The rumors of hostility on the Helsicke continent are greatly underestimated. The fires of the "Inferno" are burning strong. Whether or not we can continue to channel those energies is the only question. If our track record means anything, the situation is very much under control. GALE continues to offer homesteads on our booming frontiers to new factions seeking a home to call their own. Magic training? Universities? You bet. Full funding guaranteed for all new magic factions. We welcome settlers and colonists of all types to join us, yes even aspiring war factions. Join GALE, see the world! The latest GALE census puts us at 54 factions. See the website listed below To find out who we are. The URL for our ancient website is now: http://www.wolfenet.com/~azthar/GALE Any correspondence to GALE can be addressed to <GALE@azthar.gp> and it will be forwarded to the appropriate representative.
