Godfather Beta Test [FREE] From: Juggernaut Press <juggernaut@tightbeam.com> Date: Tue, 08 Apr 1997 00:00:00 +0000 We have room for a few more players in the Godfather beta test. Godfather (formerly St. Valentine's Day Massacre) has been called 'the best PBM game in the world' by Nicky Palmer of Flagship Magazine. It's a fully computer-run simulation of organized crime in Prohibition-era Chicago. "Godfather allows you to lead a gang of men, with the leading members named by yourself, towards the goal of a massive underworld organization of potentially hundreds. Every aspect of your organization is under your absolute control. "With your faithful few, you will need to expand upon your bootleg territory and learn new rackets to operate and build up your income. In next to no time rivals will be found pressing against your borders, sniffing out your turf and probing for openings and weaknesses. With many other gangs seeking the same goal as yourself, to belong to the most powerful Syndicate in Chicago, the odds are against you, and you will need to call upon every ounce of ruthless and devious skill you possess in order to merely survive, never mind actually prosper and expand!" You'll find more information on the web at: http://www.tightbeam.com/godfather where you can also download a draft version of the rulebook. The Godfather beta test is one shade short of being the first commercial game. The playtest ended several months ago, and most of the features of the game are working, in their final form, and unlikely to be changed. The purpose of the beta test is to make sure that no bugs remain and, just as important, to give us experience using the software prior to releasing the game commercially. The beta test is free. Please don't ask to join until you've downloaded and read the rulebook. Godfather is a complex game. You'll be unpleasantly surprised if you join the beta test knee-jerk and then find that it takes a fair bit of time to master the rules and do well. The rulebook is well-organized and well-written, and it includes a 'primer' for the first couple of turns written by an experienced player. There's a learning curve, make no mistake, but if you put some time into the game you won't have any problems. Questions welcome! Juggernaut Press juggernaut@tightbeam.com Up
