Atlantis 3.0: Times 42 From: Geoff Dunbar <gdunbar@prankster.com> Date: Sun, 13 Apr 1997 00:00:00 +0000 Subject: Atlantis 3.0: Times 42 Atlantis 3.0 Times June, 4 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Email admin30@prankster.com with game issues. Just a couple of small clarifications regarding sailing. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The earth groans, ominous clouds appear, and the sky grows dark. FACTION WAR 2 TRADE 2 MAGIC 1 Name Faction "Mutant- "Noooo", Cry the five mages in a single voice, "keep us. We are faster and stronger than a mere mortal army". Shades from an age long past whisper, "Fleets of pirate ships stretching to the horizon. Countless hordes of mithril armed orcs pouring forth from the underworld to savage unsuspecting factions. Leaders with double bows mowing down the enemy in droves. Revenge!" The sky grows darker still. The wind rises whiping leaves and dirt about wildly. Distant thunder rumbles. Name Faction "Mutant Blac- The mages counter desprately almost yelling, "Demons from the underworld and dragons from the sky all yours to command. Fire, Wind, Lightning! to slay your enemies. Fliting here and there slaying undetected at will. Magic unimaginably powerful yet to be discovered." The shades of past whipser enticingly like an old lover. "Its what you wanted. Do it ALL. No need to rely on other factions and still have one mage." "You have it all now", the mages reply. "But it is not *enough*", whisper the shades triumphantly for they know they speak the truth. PolyChromatic lightning flashes across the dark sky revealing writhing black robed cloulds. The wind howls, deafening thunder crashes, and earth trembles. Name Faction "Mutant Black Rob- "TIME", scream the mages. The ironic similarlty to a certain hobbit completely lost on them. The wind dies, the earth quiets, and the clouds grow still. Silence. "You don't have enough time," they say sighing in relief. The clouds break and light returns driving the shades back into the past where they belong. Then so quitely it may have just been your imagination, "We will have satisfaction. One way or another we will..." ------------------------------------------------------------------------ There's never enough silver... Aren't there any silver mines anywhere? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ At last! The advanced scouts reported the discovery of plains. "Now maybe we can find some horses," thought Baal. "Maybe even some plainsmen." A quick glance into the coffers revealed that hard currency was running short, but at least income was keeping up with outlay now. "So long as we establish a foothold in town before winter," thought Baal, "we'll be safe." ------------------------------------------------------------------------ We run and we bow ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Is a stab in the back just around the corner... or is it just a nip in time. Watch out! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I'll do whatever you want, even walk barefoot over broken glass, as long as you just give me the money. (OK, I admit it, I wouldn't actually walk barefoot over broken glass. I still want the money though!) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Like, whoa dude, those dragons be nasty! Anyone want some slightly used dragon scales? They're a bit bloody, but they should clean up real nice. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Beware the cities may fall. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ And the waves did becon unto the fish And the fish did build a boat to sail the seas. Sven's Flying Fish, coming to an Ocean in Atlantis soon... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Anyone interested in selling floater hides should see the Pelt Merchant = staying at the Boars Inn in Lynton. Faction 47 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Thoses visiting the fair cities and towns in the Dunster region are = requested to stay in the local inns. Sleeping in the streets will no = longer be tolerated. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Any one know about :- + Ruin [1] : Ruin, closed to player units. - Sandlings (27703), 9 sandlings [SAND]. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ create dragon scepter [CRDS] 1: A mage with the Create Dragon Scepter skill may create a Dragon Scepter. A Dragon Scepter allows any mage to control and summon twice as many flying creatures from magic skills than he would normally. A mage has a 20 percent times his level chance to create a Dragon Scepter, the attempt costs 1800 silver. To use this spell, CAST Create_Dragon_Scepter. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Why did my men vanis? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Any faction leader should question his abilities when he issues orders to march his entire army into the ocean. Fortunately this order outclasses even the stupidity of orcs so they simply stop in their tracks, waits a month, and then asks for direction again. It seems that Cool One, The should be summarily executed by tacnu... oops, wrong game ehm... be strung from a nearby tree by his parts most private. Maybe this is a good time to revisit Prowler's Conundrum (if I spelled that right, it's a bloody miracle). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Jican > Mistress, report have arrived; some GALE men wanted to stole money from our ally Lady Mara > Is that so ? J > Yes, and the situation there is .. well ... tense LM > I'll consult with the 70s council, send a messenger to GALE; tell them that either they stop, and withdraw, or I'll take side and send troops to the nameless, and that the 70s may do the same J > Your will, Mistress ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Golden Empire (189): We witness a passing phase of eternity. Important things happen but some people never notice. Accidents intervene. You are not present at episodes. You depend upon reports. And people shutter their minds. What good are reports ? History in a news account ? Preselected at an editorial conference, digested and excreted by prejudice? Accounts you need seldom come from those who make history. Diaries, memoirs and autobiographies are subjective forms of special pleading. Archives are crammed with such suspect stuff. - Darwi Odrade ------------------------------------------------------------------------ It appears that the world is starting to crumble around us. How long until it becomes every faction for themselves? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Gandolin's army is comming allong well. Couldn't believe how darn hardy those vikings are. Well, back to studies and some quiet taxing to keep the populace in line. Looking through the tomes he was wondering how Entertain works. Does the amount given for a hex present total income, or per unit income ??? Just one of those questions that we hope could be answered by some of the nice fellow factions around. wolf@iafrica.com aka The great and Mighty and Oh, So Humble Wolfman ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To AZTHAR: It is easier to fight for one's principles than to live up to them. - Alfred Adler To GALE: Talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish. - Euripides ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Well, will Azthar fall ? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 70's Pigs, We'll burn you soon... Can the tendrils of dark mysticism be harnessed into a world-crushing force by but one faction? Truly, no faction stands alone. But some stand taller than others. Let the conquest begin. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ WOW ! 15 turns of play and : more than 4000 silver as income more than 200 skilled people more than 20 skilled leaders and even some skilled mages It is a good start ! isn't it ! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dodging puddles and horsedrawn wagons, the freshman mage crossed the muddy street, The warm light from the tavern beconing... "Welcome Ragnar," the bartender beamed, "how were studies today?". Turning, the mage winced, "Not bad" The barkeep checked any further comment, but continued to smile his sympathy. He saw the dull look in the wizard's eyes. Many came in here with that look. Hard study of the basic arts put this appearance on most new students of the Magic School. They were never up to much conversation. "The usual?" "Yes" The mage collapsed at a cosey table near the hearth. He was especially tired tonight. His teacher was pressing hard to finish his studies. The elder mages often pressed their students near the end of the elders commitment to the school. They did not want to leave unsatisfied students behind with skills half complete. And Ragnar was trying to comply, but it was hard. He was not used to studying at another's pace, so the magic school was quite a shock. He had spent several months before joining the school teaching himself the foundation skills, and had progressed so well. He even had some basic gate lore skills before he arrived here. He now realized how much he had left to learn and at what pace.... The door to the inn opened, and the sound of pounding rain misted into the room. A dripping figure appeared in the doorway, and stopped. The inn keeper encouraged him to get the door closed. The figure complied woodenly. Ragnar turned to the fire and scooted closer. The heat felt good on this damp day. He did not turn to look when he heard the the mugs being put on the table. He was only barely aware when someone took the chair beside him. After a few minutes a voice said,"I don't know if I can keep this up for a whole year". "I don't know either, Celeste." replied Ragnar, dreamily. excerpt from "Many Tales of Atlantis" by Harpa the Storyteller ------------------------------------------------------------------------ BioPhreaks (172): Awaking as one awakes seconds before the rooster crows, Johnny Clone bolted upright and spat out a mouthful of embryonic fluid. "Ahhhh, very good. The leader has returned." A wizened, yet familiar voice spoke in the darkness. Johnny rubbed gelatinous scales from his silver eyes and looked at his immediate surroundings. He was in one of the many BioPhreak laboratories, this one in a particular state of disrepair. Dust and debris everywhere. He was sitting in what appeared to be a iron vat filled with luminescent green fluid. A shadowed figure was watching from across the room. The shady visage took a step forward and kneeled to the ground. "Hail, Lord Clone of the BioPhreaks." As the figure's head bowed into the lone beam of lantern-light illuminating the subterranean lab, Johnny recognized the humanoid as The Technician, servant of one thousand deaths. He appeared to be badly crippled and covered with the bright pink scars of chemical burns. This was surprising, for The Technician had earned his title not by enduring experiment-related injuries, but by dropping dead on the spot. His memories had been transferred into countless cloned bodies. Perhaps he found one so much to his liking that he had elected to stay for a while. Yet what was wrong with this situation wasn't The Technicians lack of health, it was why the Lord Clone was sitting naked in a rusty bathtub full of green slime. Johnny spat out more of the foul-tasting fluid and examined his hands. The calluses earned from lengthy sword practice were gone, but the minor scars that also resulted from the martial endeavor were still present. At length, the Lord of the BioPhreaks spoke, "Report: Why am I awaking up in a putrid clone vat when it is obvious that I haven't been recently cloned? Is this some kind of joke?" "Sire, no! It was for your own protection! An assassin visited our capital." Johnny scowled and stepped out of the tub, "Obviously he didn't succeed!" "No, my lord, but for your own protection it was decided that you should be abducted while sleeping and stored in a preservation vat until we could develop ocular technology that could uncover the threat." "'It was decided'? Decided by whom? I judge my own fate as well as all those of my faction!" Johnny Clone shouted as he donned a soiled white jumpsuit. The Technician paused, and looked about the room for anyone who might overhear. "Sire, one of your own genestock -- Sevrin Clone, chancellor of the oceanic fleet, demanded it. Then he. . . then he. . ." "By the cliffs of Gourock, spit it out, Technician!" ". . .he ordered all cloning of higher mammals to cease, had all of our replication facilities destroyed. Attempts were made to destroy your preservation tank but," The technician cackled, "I out smarted 'em. They wound up burning down a HOR5E plant." The Technician continued, "It was terrible. Sevrin made everyone forget COMB and begin studying RANC, FARM, and FISH. Capturing wild organisms! None of it safely grown. Said that we should reproduce through random breeding methods. Actually, that part wasn't so bad. But so slow! It takes years to get adult workers, not the weeks we had been accustomed to. My research has really suffered." "Enough!" Shouted Johnny, "I shall claim enough silver to allow you to hire the assistance necessary to repair this facility. Then we shall produce enough clones to reclaim my faction." "Sire, we have naught silver in the unclaimed fund." "Agggh! Very well, first I shall teach you enough of the combat arts to be able to tax. Second, I shall set my feet on the path of vengeance. Third, I immediately appoint thee my official scribe. Get to work generating times articles." "It shall be done!" said The Technician, whose intellect and physical beauty were unmatched throughout the entire world, yet possessed such humility that he craved only to support those whom leadership had been appointed. Truly, had he been given the birthright of Lord Clone, the world would surely be a better. . . "Technician!" Shouted the Lord Clone, clenching his fists. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ BRD Industries (155): -Atlantis Press- (AP) In a lawsuit filed today in the Ninth Federal District Court in Stoer, the Atlantis Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) accused BRD Industries (BRDI) of "knowingly discriminating against certain races of Atlanteans in its hiring practices." Ima Gassman, head of the ACLU, said in a press conference "BRDI hasn't really done anything wrong, nor is it the only or even the worst offender on Atlantis, but it is the faction we've chosen to whine and complain about at this time. We are confident that egg-sucking-dog liberal judges on the Ninth Circuit bench will buy into our argument despite its complete lack of substance." At the heart of the complaint is the allegation that the CEO of BRDI, known only as "Mr. Two-Wheel Drive", denied an unnamed Sea Elf a position in the Imperial Guard because the elf could only train up to Combat 2, while the standard for membership in the unit is Combat 5. "This is an outrage", said Gassman at the press conference, "the idea that only Leaders can be Guardsmen is clearly discriminatory. The Sea Elf in question is a fine specimen of Atlantean elfhood. How dare BRDI deny my client's right to live his life in any way he sees fit. The self esteem of my client has been irreparably harmed by BRDI's setting of excessively high standards for its troops. Judgement and standards are out, dontcha know. We demand justice." Gassman is asking the Court for 1.5 million silver's worth of justice from BRDI. ACLU insiders are saying that should the suit against BRDI be successful, the next target will be one of the great, multi-faction alliances of Atlantis. Perhaps GALE, or even SEP will be next. Said Gassman, "If we can shake down a little bitty faction like BRD Industries for a million-five today, just think of what we can make GALE cough up in order not to be called bad names in the press. Nothin' makes 'em crumble like a little good old-fashioned race baiting." Asked if the federal government had any plans to join the suit against BRDI, a spokesman for President Linton would only say "the President is always looking for ways to stick his big, fat, nose into things that do not concern him." In a related story, a group of Orcs known as Plowshares Not Swords staged a protest today in downtown Griminish. In a rather pathetic demonstration the Orcs threw down their swords and attempted to beat them into plows. After several hours of hammering, the Orcs finally gave up when they realized both that they couldn't tell a plow from a pony and that all the noise was giving them headaches. Also, when told that plows were generally used in farming, the orcs expressed universal disgust at the thought of raising crops for a living. "All this protest stuff was Ima Gassman's idea anyway. Orcs don't even eat grain." said a PNS spokesman. The protest ended when one of the Orcs spotted a group of Skeletons in a nearby region and they all went off on a bloody rampage. Gassman had no comment. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Aberdaron will surely fall this month. The refugees are leaving in droves. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Shadowdragons (24): The monsoons should bring more reports of bloodshed as the Nameless move forward on their three fronts. Sinan should be clear of pirates and their colorful tales. It seems UNCLE has also moved on the SEP, so they face trouble on at least two fronts. I have my doubts they will stand up as well. GALE has also been invading 70s Association territory, so perhaps they can provoke another enemy. On peaceful notes, the University continues to advance the frontiers of knowledge, with many classes and paid tuition. We can still find openings for those interested. Davros, Lord of the Shadowdragons ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Once more, Gale blows hot wind at us. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Commander sat in his tent in silent contemplation. Outside, the forest was silent. His men, nearly ten ill trained guards and an assortment of greedy taxers, milled about in the company's encampment. Well, he thought, another month and my luck holds. No monsters to wipe out my tiny force, no Mages arrived via Gate to challenge my lands. Instead, scouts were finding nothing but lush plains to the North. Give me five turns, he begged to the heavens, and I will forge an empire here. Just to the east a tiny village awaited his liberation. With it silver could be raised to rapidly accelerate his development of the region. The Commander had visions of towers, vast armies, mithril weapons, flying horse, armored Galleons and more. All he needed was time. Give me the time he voiced silently, and I will make this land into my own. Even as he put thoughts of time out of his head the commander looked to the letter he had finaly recieved from the apprentice mage. He had succeded in escaping the City and had taken up residence among allies on a far off continental landmass. The apprenitce was soon to take part in the seizure of a city, his meager Fire skills adding to the power of an eminent assault. His general was finaly realizing his dream of leading men in combat. His tactics skills would greatly help in the battles to come. He could only assume his assassins that he had left behind in the city were putting their skills to use. No matter, the Commander thought, they cannot help me here. The next month would be a busy one for the commander. Scouts to be sent south, silver and soldiers to be raised in his encampment area, spells to be cast. The Commander had learned a new spell that allowed to him to look through the etherplane and view far away locations. His mapping of the sorrounding lands could be greatly accelerted, especialty after more study and refinement of the skill was completed. A general would have to be trained as well. When he liberated the nearby town a tactician would be useful in rendering the village thugs helpless. Rising from his makeshift chair the Commander reached through the ether to grab hold of flows of fire. At a monents notice he could now bring forth great sweeping screens of fire. Anyone to venture through the local Gate would be incinerated before they could establish a hold in his lands. The Commander grinned, he almost wished someone would foolishly venture through the gateway. He could use the experience. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Seventies alliance is still recruiting new members. We will help our friends to return ASAP to their prior status in the mountains of Kobbe. Troops with the returned spoils and some provisions are on their way. What a novel concept! Frozen water falling from the sky! It looks like the offensive will slow down, now that winter has set in. I'm glad, that will give us time to arm and train the locals. The raw recruits have the simplest concepts of combat! And they're vikings! Luckily there's lots of them willing to fight, and we can buy weapons in the city. I don't know what you've heard of the battle, but I can tell you it was impressive. Hundreds, no thousands of men on a side! The enemy army seemed to come from every direction and contained peoples of every types. Some of them weren't even combat troops! What kind of leaders sends farmers to fight combat troops? The enemy leaders are as cruel and heartless as we've heard. Hopefully our allies have been as successful as we have. Tell everyone I hope to see them during XMAS leave. I'm sending some small presents from Durness with the Jump Mages. They don't seem to be carrying anything back, so we can send lots of stuff. Please don't try to send any XMAS presents, since the Jump Mages can't carry any nonessentials. In his last message, he made the following statements. >You bring up the war? >Question: What happens when you give the Syndic8 a three-fold advantage in >troops and players in a game system that gives very little advantage to >defense? >Answer: Not much. > >When did you first attack? Turn ten? What turn is it now? Turn 41? Have >you actually managed to eliminate anyone? Please allow me a few moments to respond. Actually, our war started on Turn 20, not turn 10. Does it seem like you've been running away for 30 turns? Not quite. And yes...we have been able to eliminate quite a few RIP troops. By my count, RIP has lost 1423 units, compared to 291 for Syndic8. This does not include our attack on Rantlu, where we sacrificed some 300 COMB 1 guys to kill off several RIP mages. If you examine only the last 7 turns or so, the figures are even more lopsided, with RIP losing 800 units to Syndic8's 25. Speaking of mages...you lost at least three others in the past seven turns. Your three-to-one ratio of factions is probably accurate, especially since you've had several RIP factions quit the game or be eliminated. By the way, what happened here? Are you guys attacking each other now? Black Scout (21882) attacks City Guard (1167) in mountain ! Attackers: Black Scout (21882), leader [LEAD]. [snip -- RIPs other units are inconsequential -- about 300 total] Defenders: City Guard (1167), 80 leaders [LEAD], 80 swords [SWOR], combat 2. FO (15758), behind, hill dwarf [HDWA]. The Magician (5261), behind, leader [LEAD], horse [HORS], combat 1, riding 1; he sees the strength of God. The High Priestess (5263), behind, leader [LEAD], horse [HORS], combat 1, riding 1; she sees the nature of God. The Hierophant (5265), behind, leader [LEAD], horse [HORS], combat 1, riding 1; he sees the way of God. FO (15769), behind, hill dwarf [HDWA]. ------------------------------------------- It's a good thing that the battle mistakenly ended indecisively, or you would have killed off another 3 of your own mages! Not before they would have taken out more than the 50 RIP troops that they already did, though! I realize that it may seem that we are acting a bit slowly in destroying you, but please understand that we've had to fill up the 75 or so hexes you've left us, including 3 cities, 5 towns and 2 villages. Be assured, we will get around to killing you off eventually, but it never hurts to have help. Besides, killing RIP is fun! Isn't that what this game is all about? -- Syndic8 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ How amazing "enchant swords" is. ; #end ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I LOVE STEALTH! Prepare to die ACME SCUM! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Pigs! They're everywhere you want to be... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Bluffer had been far afield from GALElandia. But STEAlthy rouges from the Sinian landing had linked up with he and the rest of the "Great Scout" at long last. Apparantly Das Freddy had an attack of the "clevers". Still following his own plan, it appears the old windbag will slither off and write his memoirs. They'll probably be titled "My Struggle", or so said one COBRA pundant. Too bad. A brilliant conceptionalist, Das Freddy. A vision- ary, really. Just doesn't know how to play well with others. Well, back to the nameless business at paw. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Don't listen to all those alliances who are trying to get you to be an all trade faction or an all magic faction. If it were so great they would be doing it themselves. Atlantis is huge. Just random gate. Be 1-1-3 or even better be a 2-2-1. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ For Sale: In Anshun, lots of used swords, bows, armor, etc. Like new as previous owners dropped them and fled instead of fighting... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dunster News Report: ******************************************** I know that everyone in Dunster feels safe right now, but I have information that it will not be so in a turn or 2. All Factions desiring protection from theft and from death please contact me at kgrindst@inlink.com those that choose not to will be sorry. You have been warned. Our Expansion continues as planned pretty soon the entire continent will be under our control. Except for a few pockets of resistance. Grayson, The Dark Legion (7) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ In the Nexus the swirling mist is begining to brighten in 1 area, the mist begins to part, a portal appears. From out of the Mist Strides a man dressed in a blue robe carrying a staff and all kinds of arcane objects. As he nears the other residents his Identity becomes evident this is Lord Blue, I went up to speak with him. As I came up to him I noticed that he seemed very tired. He told me of his journey, it started during the final battle for Atlantis 2. We he viewed the forces he was against and that all of his Alliance forces had not arrived, he decided to try the most powerful spell he had. The Trans-Dimensional Portal, the casting of this spell takes weeks, and it is sometimes fatal. The other Mages from his party cast the same spell, he hasn't seen them since. He told me he is just glad to make it here alive. Then he told me of the final battle that he fought in. The SCIO alliance had the AMI out numbered 2 to 1 but all of the Allied Mages did not show up, thus the Brave soldiers were slaughtered by Mind Blasts and Lightning Strikes. His Friend TMS Froggy suffered the worst 12000 troops killed. "Let us not dwell on these sad things" he said. "Let us get on with the new adventure of this world", "By the Way what is this world called?". I told him it was Atlantis, this statement brought a strange twinkle to his eyes. He turned and walked away deep in concentration. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sim Nation (253): Sim Nation Comments: New Factions: If you have questions about the game, I am happy to answer them free of charge or obligation. My alliance of choice is the AIF. If you are looking for a strong alliance based away from the starting cities, we might be what you are looking for. If you are out away from the starting cities, you might be interested in exchanging information without incurring the obligations of a strong alliance. The Industrial Revolution might be the organization for you. As long as I am commenting on organizations, I will add a plug for the 70's. The 70's alliance has dealt openly and fairly with me whenever I have run into them. My thanks to them for that. I would also like to add a thank you to the Nameless. While I do not want to be involved with their war with GALE, the Nameless allowed my mages to study at the university they share with the 70's when I started this faction. Going to the other side of that conflict, I would like to thank Azthar himself. Not for his writing in the Times but for answering my questions. As I have run into factions that I thought might belong to GALE, I have asked him for help and information. He has always come through. Now, I have to wonder, is the above comment the first time someone has thanked someone else in the Times? One last organization to comment on. Sure looks like the SEP are about to take a beating. . . Sure looks like they deserve everything they get as well. I recently counted and found that over 80 factions have been eliminated from this game so far. Given the major wars I am hearing of and the fact that even the Wide World away from the starting cities is becoming crowded, I have to wonder if the rate of faction elimination will climb. Those of you involved in wars, please post whatever details you can to the Times. The rest of the world would like to hear your case. Why are you fighting? Who started the conflict? What would it take to end the conflict? Here is your chance, influence world opinion. Please feel free to contact me at ryanhill@wolfenet.com. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sun Tzu said: "Therefore when those experienced in war move they make no mistakes; when they act, their resources are limitless." Another small assembly of hardy men, inspired by the courage of the long since dead rebels in Jotel and Yuci, tried to take control of the small village Sines last month. Fortunately, Lord Smygelfh was prepared and sent one of his slaughter forces to teach the citizens a valuable lession. MAGIC! Firebrand, the first mage, reported in last month. Overall good results, as all of the mages know above average in all basic foundations. LIBERATION EXPEDITION! Preparations were made last month as Lord Smygelfh had ordered a small unit of his best knights to go far away to find the resources needed. They also received orders to liberate any cities they might find on the way. AFRAID OF THE UNKNOWN? You want a game of outright conquest stay at home and play RISK !!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Now that's a surprise! I didn't realise that Mithril was so common. I guess it's time to see if the same is true of Ironwood, Yew and Rootstone. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ seventies: if you insist on sending "scouts" with titles like "landgrabbing opportunists" there will never be a peace between us. Forget that only madmen pursue power for its own sake. Let such madmen gain power-even you. Let such madmen act behind their conventional masks of sanity. Ma tu chi sei? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Shadow Circle (6): >From the Office of the GALE Grand Marshall: The GALE Grand Assembly announced today that Azthar Septragen is no longer the GALE Grand Elder. Nominations for the Grand Elder position have already begun, and elections will likely be held next week by the Grand Assembly. Until the election, official GALE business is being handled through the Grand Marshall's office: ken@satori.gso.uri.edu The Grand Marshall, chair of the Council of Defense and Diplomacy also issued a brief announcement on the ongoing war with the Nameless Alliance, "After an initial setback in Burscough 3 months ago, it seems the war is proceeding according to plan. Outside of Burscough, in which GALE suffered some minor losses, very few, if any, GALE casualties have been suffered." Why is it so hard to write meaningful articles in the last second? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ At long last, after a wearing and dangerous journey from another place, the lone scout finally reached the great City of Helsicke, Capitol of the known world! "Hello Sir, is this Helsicke, the home of GALE, the best-known, and mightiest alliance in Atlantis?" the boy asked. "Yes, my son" the ancient wise man answered carefully, in a loud voice that boomed from his tower, and seemed to fill the City Square. "I have come to join GALE, but I was worried about that lunatic Azthar?" the boy asked, in a fearful and respectful tone. "We know not that name in these parts," the Eldars answered enigmatically. "You know, Azthar, that guy who rants about spleens in the Times, and posts stuff to the players list that makes people give up the game in disgust? A total loser?" "Loser? Ahh, now I know to whom you refer. We have finally tired of his foolish prattle, and exiled him from this place." "In that case, Helsicke sounds like a great place to be!" the boy replied. Surely he had what it takes to become a great warrior, trader, or mage! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The trade machine lumbered onwards. Onwards towards what though? What IS the goal? Whatever you make it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Just a note, thaats all I ask. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "My Lord, the courier has arrived, asking for your article." "Hmm, that's right. I said I'd right this week's article for the Emperor," mused Kevin Sharpe, Lord High Commander of the Imperial Legions. "What shall I write about - a clever narrative account of battling sandlings, or how about the last time I single handedly held the gates of <censored> open against the city guards? Or perhaps the the avid readers would like to hear yet another tale on the large wars currently being fought?
