Quest Digest 17/4/97 From: Joshua Gallagher <Joshua@dial.pipex.com> Date: Thu, 17 Apr 1997 00:00:00 +0000 QUEST_DIGEST 17 April 1997 Quest Digest - Mid-drout Edition UEST_DIGEST_ = EST_DIGEST_Q Hello and welcome yet again to a Digest! 3 weeks ST_DIGEST_QU and a day since the last. Bet you=92re glad _I=92m_ not T_DIGEST_QUE processing your turns. Anyway, welcome to the new _DIGEST_QUES folks - I=92m becoming perhaps a little too liberal in DIGEST_QUEST adding people to the mailing list, so forgive me if you=92ve appeared without warning, and email me if you want taking off. Thanks once again to all contributors, and it=92s great to see so many of you in KJC Game 18. I=92m a little bit of a late starter myself. The horses appear to be popular so far, becoming quite a source of = income for younger parties and a cheaper way of travelling than = teleporting. What next? Or have we had our lot on game = improvements? I hope not. Many may recall the top 5 changes we = compiled here. Top of that list as I recall was new Quests - have = any Quest running firms implemented any yet? What extras appear in = Dynamic Games, Crasiworld and the others that don=92t appear in KJC? = I=92ve heard about some, but would be interested to hear of more. Anyway, on with your contributions... --------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Ewan Jones stej@silsoe.Cranfield.ac.uk = Date: Thu, 27 Mar 1997 10:09:12 GMT = EJ I have setup a Quest E-Mail Address Book which lists which games = people play in, which groups they have and what their e-mail address = is. This page is located at: http://www.silsoe.cranfield.ac.uk/users/stej/address.htm If you would like to be added to the page please mail me on : = e.f.d.jones@cranfield.ac.uk --------------------------------------------------------------------- Author: INTERNET:Jens_J_Loesel@sbphrd.com at CSERVE Date: 27/03/97 06:56 JL> Are you bored - is your group too strong - does all the monsters = run away too fast - reading the last digest it seems, some people = think the opposite -but as this goes to the ultra strong groups too - = here is a new way to add some spice to your game. JL> Some time ago I asked if 'Arena Betreten' (enter arena 602) is = still implemented. It is not - 602 was overwritten - so I was looking = for an alternative. JL> A Duel - one character against one monster. JL> Most people would probably say - oh this is not possible - or = it's not worth selling all weapons apart one character - but here is = a much simple way. JL> There are several monster classes around which can't be hurt by = normal weapons - this are the monsters to look out for. (others are = not worth it in any case. JL> Issue 1 Enchant weapon I or II on the character and attack the = monster. The character with the enchanted weapon will be the only one = who is capable to hurt the monster. JL> Does it work ?? JL> YES - I just attacked a juggernaut with my human priest only. The = fight went 14 !! melee turns. In this time the juggernaut hit my = group 20 times, inflicting a total damage of around 600 hit-points = (before armour reduction). JL>By the way - it's interesting to be seriously hurt by a monster - = wearing armour class 24/25 ... hasn't happened to me before ... So = doing more than 40 points of damage with a single hit isn't too bad = =2E.. JL> My priest - having skill 100 and a axe+3 just hit him 3 !!! times = for 46 damage each (minus armour of the juggernaut) and just got XP = for 9 out of 14 turns. A fourth hit should have killed the beast - = but this doesn't happened in time. JL> As my group just has 7 members - and my retreat was quite low with 20% - this was the first time in 141 turns I play that my group = did a retreat from a fight. JL> But I think, it was worth it. At least much more fun as the last = time when I just swept a juggernaut away in 2 turns without problems. JL> Maybe next time I take the fighter instead - and do some = additional magic ... Maybe against some weak monsters I use some = handicap - a dagger instead a Plus3 weapon ... JL> I would be interested of other people doing duels too - write me = about them : Titan@quest3.softnet.co.uk JL> Oh, bye the way - if you just want to kill the beast - I have two = mages which are capable of all 65 spells - but an Engulfing Globe or = Total Death is just no real fun. JL> I like it the hard way - 4000+ XP by fighting only and 40+ dead = monster in a single turn are my best at the moment :) :) Not as = efficient as having a single 2000+ gold quest - but what should I use = the gold and XP for ?? Titan Oberursel - Grandmaster of Wisdom - Quest 3 Germany, Leader of = Die Bruderschaft, the first official German Alliance --------------------------------------------------------------------- Author: INTERNET:kare.stoyva@ba.no at CSERVE Date: 28/03/97 06:05 DKS> I am just starting out in KJC game 18 and would like to get in = touch with anyone interested in co-operating in mapping and spell = research. Please send e-mail to: kare.stoyva@ba.no I have a nice little program for IBM pc's called Quest mapper made by = Martyn Webster. Anyone interested send me a few words and I'll mail = it to you. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Sender: UKWegner@aol.com Date: Fri, 28 Mar 1997 13:46:25 -0500 (EST) After a duel with another party my first character has been the only = killed (a human fighter from the beginning being the group leader = though his skill of 22 should suggest a replacement). This seemed the = ideal opportunity to buy resurrection. My party needed two rounds to = reach the next city with a temple of Baldor. After much needed 101 = Baldors Healing my alignment to Baldor dramatically increased to +19. = In the city my dead leader bought resurrection by himself. The High = Priest gladly granted this for only 3490 gold. I think the cost of = resurrection has something to do with the party alignment to Baldor, = if someone gets resurrection for only 1000 gold I would like to know his alignment (Balor +40???). My leader lost 4 of his skill, 6 of his strength, Weapon skill = decreased from 100 to 90 (well, he remains still an ace), charisma = and awareness have been lowered too. Someone got a fighter with a = skill of 18? I think I'm now leading the "lowscore" in German Game = 4... For the future I'll try a different way: My party leader now wears a = ring of resurrection, that's much cheaper. But You need luck to get = this ring, other parties of mine own several rings of adornment... --------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Erwan Legrand p6mpr63@cicrp.jussieu.fr = Date: Tue, 01 Apr 1997 13:25:34 +0200 = EL> Have multiple attacks been really removed from the game? AH> The problem I have with alliance handouts is that the money being handed out has, in most cases, already been spent on training - one group has already gained the benfits of a reduced training cost - but = it can be given away to be spent again at no extra charge! With 15K = per order there was the potential for 450K to be distributed free to alliance members per turn - and the alliance could get it all back again! (minus a staggering 1200gp charge on HQ and skill maintanance = at the end of the turn). I would much prefer it if the Alliance Give = was left to be a cash injection to a group that needed it rather than = a matter of routine for the 15K to be handed out each turn. > = >AH> Group Steals - (maybe just my imagination) two failed steals = >orders on the same group in the same turn is needed to start a fight = >(even for groups with no thief). AH> Just my imagination indeed, sorry. >TH> Why don't KJC implement a quick program which calculates = >a rough statistic of how strong each group is, and then = >compares them. AH> The problem is - how do you calculate a groups strength? Its a = lot harder than you think. > > This might boost sales of newspapers as currently there is very = > little point in buying one. One of the towns I own in game 5 is under attack from = another party (being played anonymously). To be frank, what I want to = do is to give them I right old hiding, but I'm having trouble picking = a fight with them. Spells and engage orders don't seem to work in = towns, and I believe my best hope is repeated "Steal" orders to try = and provoke a fight when we get chucked out of town. The main trouble = is that this party is being played anonymously, so there is no-one to = contact to tell that this town ain't big enough... Any answers ? --------------------------------------------------------------------- From: PSykes6420@aol.com = Date: Sun, 6 Apr 1997 13:29:37 -0400 (EDT) = PS> I have recently been trying to catch wild Arabians and I thought = I would pass the info on in case someone might find it useful. PS> I caught two Wild Arabians by moving to the square where they = last saw them and then tracking them - I followed the trail north and = caught one horse, then the Arabians moved away and I followed the = trail west on the same track order and caught another Arabian. I then = did 3 I0's but just found the trail, not the horses. Thus it would = seem that you can catch horses by moving onto the square that they = are in and/or tracking them, but there is a chance that the horses = will move into an adjacent square when you catch one of them. PS> Also, the Break In Horse sold at various Stables is for wild = horses that you capture, not for Horses that you buy, as someone told = me. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 9 Apr 1997 13:28:52 -0400 From: Karl Wasley <KWasley@compuserve.com> = >One way it could work is by having an extra section in the newspaper = >bought from towns and cities.
