If that's what you want, you can pay me a consulting fee, >but I won't bore anyone else. Greg, let me put this another way. You are the reason I am not posting ads, as well as the reason a number of people are not. What your opinion is on this subject does tend to be something that people need to hear, since you are the one that told me you would inform my ISP that I was violating Usenet Policy if I ever posted another ad. This makes your opinion very important. >> I have updated my PBM list entry. I update it about once a year. But you sure seem happy >flaming me in public about it. I'd be happy to give you a paragraph >per time-frame. Um...I believe I submitted one paragraph per Time Frame to you lo those many years ago when I sent you the first submission. You returned it to me and told me 2 paragraphs maximum. I thank you for the offer, since with that, I could do one paragraph per TF, then just do a single overview paragraph. Better for all concerned here. There have been times that I considered listing each TF as a seperate game, they are that different. However, since they are all interconnected, it seemed a little dishonest by my standards. And no, I did not flame you. Not wanting to flame you is why I posted the apology for my first post. I honestly have no desire to get into a flame war here, and my intent here is for the betterment of the hobby as well as for personal gain. As I have stated, you and I honestly have a lot in common, based on your interests, and the mailing lists we both belong to. I have no desire to piss you off at me, but I also have no desire to back down from a situation that I do not agree with. Quite frankly, the more people playing PBeM games of ANY type, the more customers I get. It's a percentage game. For that matter, the more people playing FREE games, the more that will play commercial games. The more people playing Wargames, the more that will play RPGs. Getting more posters and readers in this newsgroup does everyone good in the long run, even if not one of them joins Sol III. >> What is the exact problem with posting a non-hype information 'ad' about >> an established game, especially if this is only being done on say, a >> bi-monthly basis (Although I noticed that a lot of folks would like seeing >> tasteful ads on a montly basis)? > >That's 5 ads per day; some people may not like that much. You don't >seem to radically change and revamp your game every 2 months, so most >of them would be repeats. Actually, the game does get improvements that quickly, if not more so. A lot of times, the improvements come on an almost weekly basis. That is just the nature of the beast. And totally beside the point. The point is, I doubt that every company out there is going to post an ad. Even if they did, 5 ads a day, labled, is not something that I consider out of line. Heck, I go out on the web LOOKING for ads (which is all a PBeM website is in most cases) and I know that as strange as I am, I am not that out of sync, else PBeM companies would not put the ads out there for me to look at. And, the second point is, the whole key here is Informative and Tasteful. If it's SPAM, keep it in the can. The right ads posted here can be a service to the newsgroup, not a hinderance. >Perhaps you should propose rec.games.pbm.ads. I'd vote for it. But don't >suppose that a couple of people saying they want lots of ads means that >there aren't thousands of people reading this group who don't. >-- g Please, Greg, don't speak for the silent. The folks posting are the ones who feel strongly enough to place their opinions out in public. Since this is a public newsgroup, I don't give a tinker's damn for anyone's opinion that is not willing to post it. That means your opinion is important to me. Anyone who is not posting, is a person who is not voicing an opinion. Don't figure that there are thousands who agree with you when they are silent on the issue.
