Fantasy RPG looking for 2 or 3 players... From: rpgfool@aol.com (RPGFool) Date: Thu, 19 Jun 1997 00:00:00 +0000 I have started a email based rgp session. I have a few players, but need a few more. To let any potential players know what to expect, let me describe the game mechanics a bit. Setting: High fantasy, with many races, magic, magic items, godlings, etc... World Scale: One known continent, with at least a dozen major kingdoms.... (although there may be others, far away....) Game setting: A world at war. Old magics that held dark powers and foul creatures from another realm at bay have failed. Portals have opened, and invading armies of foul nasties besiege many kingdoms on many frontiers. Large-scale battles are common, as are attacks from monsters and roving raiders. Travel is dangerous anywhere, and at anytime. Long journeys are seldom attempted without a strong armed escort. Trade is restricted. Player character types: human only, of heroic nature, with various backgrounds and character types (No thieves, assasins, necromancers, etc....) Suggested types: warriors, knights, priests, wizards, Game Emphasis: ROLE-PLAYING and character interaction. For the most part, game mechanics remain hidden from the players. A good STORY is the primary goal. Game Pace: SLOW! Although a fast paced game can be great (I ran one where I answered email several times a day, and had a blast...) that is not how this effort is set up. This is a story-telling format, with "chapters" put out once a week or so, explaining the results of characters actions, and the current situation. (Actually the best game I have played in so far was one in which the game master responded once a month or so.) Misc.: *Party unity will be needed. It is a harsh and brutal world. Infighting will probably get somebody killed. The party against the world kinda game. *PG-13 flavor. Sex, Drugs, violence, etc... exist, but like in a classic piece of lit, they need to be handled with a touch of class and a bit of care. For example, rapists, raging addicts or alcoholics, cannibals, pschopaths, child stealers, etc... just do not fit into the "HEROIC" perspective of the game. Not that a person with such unique personality quirks can't in reality be a hero, but it violates the literary/gaming stereotypical guidelines for the traditional hero. *Expect stereotypes. I mention this because some people are irritated by stereotypes. They seek diversity in everything, and find elves, hobbits, dwarves, etc... that act like the traditional stereotypes a bit boring. But I find it a good thing to run a world where players have a good sense of what to expect from NPC's, and the world in general. Of course there are exceptions, but the exceptions are rare. *Basic game concept: A few people having fun by using a little bit of their spare time in creating characters that run around in a fantasy story, cooperating to make the STORY as good as possible. I hope that is enough for interested parties to decide if they want to give it a try. I am limited to the number of players I can support. If you are interested, email me. We can start negotiating on a character. Thanks..... Mark RPGFool@aol.com Up
