Not required?? I prefer "uable to be used"...

Bitter experience in my very first game of Galaxy (no turn checker)
showed me that if you issue orders based on MAX, then you cannot split
the group further, ie

B 1 10
;Breaks 10 ships from group 1
L MAX COL
;Load the buggers with COLonists
S MAX 2 4
S MAX 3 6
;Attempt to send to two other planets, loaded with COL.

You'll get the error
S MAX 3 6
* Group already in hyperspace
This happens because when you used the partial S order, it created a
*new* MAX group, consisting of 4 ships loaded with COL going to
Planet 2...

So... lesson for the day is be careful with MAX in Galaxy, and use the
B only for the right number of ships you need for *one* specific
purpose, and repeat as necessary ie, for above example:
B 1 4
L MAX COL
S MAX 2
B 1 6
L MAX COL
S MAX 3

Apologies if above was boring, but I thought the point made by Tim Smith
needed a little clarification...
