Good games From: Dan Greenwood <danag+@andrew.cmu.edu> Date: Fri, 27 Jun 1997 00:00:00 +0000 Hi there! I am one of the "silent players" observing the ad debate. For the record, I think an ad posted once per month per game is a reasonable amount. No difference between commercial and free games when it comes to Usenet advertising. OK, that's over with. I like the direction Gary Baines was heading when he described the games he currently enjoys playing. I would like to see more posts like that - players talking about what games they like. This is much more useful (to me) than listening to debates between GMs. So, to continue with this (and I hope many more ppl add on to this thread), here are my top 2 favorite PBeM games of all time: :) StarWeb - Flying Buffalo Inc - This is the first PBeM game I ever played, and I always find myself coming back to it. It is a relatively short (17-21 turns) and elegantly simple space exploration/combat game. 15 players per game, 6 player types, 255 worlds arranged in a "Web". One of the more interesting parts of the game is figuring out the layout of the map. The other is the interaction between the character types. Lots of diplomacy. http://www.flyingbuffalo.com Odyssey - Gamer's Den - This is a grand strategy game where a player controls any number of armies, characters, guilds, towns, etc. Factional or FFA modules are available. Very complex, but LOTS of fun. Kinda like Olympia, only better (IMO). http://www.den.com OK, let's hear from more of you players out there! -Dan Up
