If you think about it a while it makes perfect sense... All spacecraft have a cargo allowance that they can reasonably carry... This is usually measured in metric tons which is a measure of mass not weight. You are also limited by how big your physical cargo space is... usually in cubic meters. Yes, space is usually weightless, but every bit of mass is still there... This becomes a very important consideration when you have comsumable fuels and varying cargo capacity as it can greatly affect a starship's range, acceleration and manueverability. As far as your statement that this has nothing to do with PBEMing, I disagree... It should be every players goal to make the games as fun and realistic as possible, no matter what the game system or genre.
