Atlantis 3.0: Times 56 From: Geoff Dunbar <gdunbar@atlantis.prankster.com> Date: Sun, 20 Jul 1997 00:00:00 +0000 Subject: Atlantis 3.0: Times 56 Atlantis 3.0 Times August, 5 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Email admin30@prankster.com with game issues. Due to the overworking of the starting cities, I have adjusted the amount of unclaimed silver that a new faction starts with to be 5000 + 50 * the current turn number. This will give them a bit more silver to work with to get their faction going. A bug existed where units in a ship in an ocean could move, provided that the region the unit was moving to was not an ocean. This has been fixed; units in the ocean may not MOVE or ADVANCE to other regions. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ***** 70'S ** * WEEKLY * * * * * * REPORT ** REPORT : the 70's weekly was critized twice last week in the times. Once by Uncle and once by the sect of Chtulu (40) (also Uncle). I just want to tell that since the automatic reward, the times has drasticly shrinked, and the report wins to be at least regular. The report is not a propaganda tool, its first mission is to inform the inner seventies, then the rest of Atlantis, friends or foes. If you compare the report with the Uncle bulletins, you understand. The report is always respectful of people. The report is written by a french man. Yes. And I dont really appreciate that Chtulu reproched to me not to be a english native language. I do my best. And I dont like xenophoby. Everyone who really wants to hurt me can meet me on a battlefield. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Nameless (we think) assassinated a Deus ex Machina leader in the underworld. This is an unespected acknowledgement of our growing importance in the Gale alliance. We are flattered! Faction 258 of Deus ex Machina ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ah, Sven? Yes Gilles. Myself and the crew were wondering something. What is that Gilles? Is there such a thing as sea monsters in Atlantis? I don't know Gilles, but that would sure make moving by sea more interesting (and much more difficult). -Da Fish ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To the assassin who killed my unit "Wander Man" in the underground Please tell my why did you kill a comb-1 wood helf ? Did he scare you so much ? my e-mail Camera@mi.infn.it faction 268 Ora et Labora ------------------------------------------------------------------------ All-Atlantis Transit Is now proud to offer transport service throughout the majority of Atlantis. It would seem that there are none left to tell of the terrible power of this alliance. It has ruled the lands of its namesake for many years and has survived countless turns undaunted by continual war. I agree with General Tigh that DDT is, without a doubt, the owner of the top position on this list. >1. DDT >2. everybody else except the Dragon Knights >3. When Cthulhu awakens he will drive the entire population of Atlantis insane, devour them, or something equally nasty. Pledge your support to Cthulhu now before its too late. Oswald High Preist of Cthulhu will now answer your questions from the last times. Q: Is war at this point really _that much_ fun? Oswald: Yes, at least when your winning. I perfer assassinations myself. Q: Balrogs anyone? Has anyone killed one? If you have please reply anonmously to the times.(I can't spell but you know what I mean) Oswald: Yes, the Chosen have killed several. Nasty creatures, put lots of expendable units in the front line. Q: Now that creatures don't have so many magic items as treasure, can new players ever catch up to those who started in turn 1 ? Oswald: No, not without the help of players who started on early. For a limited time Cthulhu is accepting new followers, once he awakens It will only be accepting slaves. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sphinx's! Why did it have to be Sphinx's? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ An idea to improve the (getting more pathetic all the) Time(s): Give the standard 50 silv reward to everybody. Same as it is now. However, Geoff would have 2 additional options: 1) Also give a 500 silv reward to what he deems to be the "best" times submission, or, 2) Also give an additional 50 silv to each person who actually submits a Times article. I actually enjoy what (some) people write, and want to try to encourage that. I prefer option 1, of course. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Monkeys, wolves, moles, llammas, doves, and jays... is this a zoo? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dunster Report: It seems we have some visitors. The "Dark Patrols" have been dispatched to deal with the interlopers. I would like to Welcome a New Member to the Alliance, DDT, as always I will keep his name a Secret, we don't need him to collect some of my enemies just yet. If you have gate information, I am buying. The Immigration Office in Dunster is now open! We are accepting applications for Visas to visit the region. Just contact me and we will work out the details. Grayson, The Dark Legions (7) DDT kgrindst@inlink.com P.S. I sign my articles, I challenge everyone else to do the same. I am tired of reading a bunch of dribble with no name attached. We all know you can talk the talk, but can you walk the walk? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ A giant portrait of a sea-goddess with helm, trident and shield looks down maternally on the flat-capped elves bustling amoungst the organised confusion of the shipyards. An overzealous artist has endowed its facial features with a striking resemblance to Nursie, which she would certainly never have ordered but perhaps not forbidden. On the wall of the various sheds are smaller posters designed to inspire the workers. One depicts a shipwright's hammer smashing an evil-looking '70' and exhorts the workers to "Hammer the aggressor!" A galleon slides into the estuary, workmen still aboard putting the finishing touches to the superstructure. To a knowing eye the whole history of its construction can be seen in the line of growing hulls still on their stocks. Nearby something new is happening - a glowing ironwood rivet is defty flicked from the brazier, caught and hammered noisily into place. In conference with a foreman a draughtsman points first to his scroll then toward a bulkhead to clarify the changes in design - one hold will be filled with individual cabins. With bunks instead of hammocks no less - surely someone of importance will sail with this vessel. As yet another galleon glides into its new home the clouds part and a choir of guardian angels appears briefly. They begin singing a vaguely familiar strain about waves and those pre-destined to rule them, but one of the mage's demons chases them away... No insults for Lady Mara this week. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Rats in the Galleon in Kimbrace will die! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Shadow Circle (6): >From the Office of the GALE Grand Marshall: Requests have been flooding into the Grand Marshall's Office from young men and women from all corners of GALE land, eager to join in the fight against the traitorous ACME Moving Company and the villanous Nameless Empire. The Grand Marshall was busy issuing assurances that all able-bodied citizens would be welcome to join in the fight, but that they should undergo proper training through their local GALE Garrison's first. All roads heading west from even the easternmost expanses of the continent are jammed full of soldiers ready to fight. With the monsoon season over, travel times have decreased significantly and the Grand Marshall was expecting to at least double the size of his land-based forces within a few months. The several GALE Fleets were also reported to be ready to join the conflict. Little agreement could be found among naval obervers, however, as to which Nameless coastal territories the Fleets would strike first. In the words of one, "They all look so good!" Glory to GALE!!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Chronicles of The Tribe Wow! More and more cities to take! The Tribe has never experienced such level of wealth...Should we really do this? How can we keep our moral values unblemished in this situation? Many members already converted to a lifestyle of loose manners and uncontrolled make-up use. Those were our best bowmen, now lost somewhere on genderland. Paulo, Parrot-Man of The Tribe (123) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Glass Chompers (65): I often get questions about the "best" way to start the game. Probably because of my web page. Well, I can be at a lose to answer these sometimes. If anyone out there would like to provide hints and tips for new players I would be glad to start up a new section on my web for them. Send any submissions to kraby@ibm.net Thanks, http://www.kraby.pair.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Glorious Organization of Divineship (GOD) --------------------------------------------- UNDEAD ON THE LOOSE! A GOD balloon transporting unarmed craftsmen were hunted by a large pack of undead in the Salen mountains. Fortunately, the skilled sailors managed to leave the area just in time. The angry Lord Smygelfh ordered his best warriors to take care of the problem, and they left Murom as soon as they could, not afraid of anything. 20th TIMBER YARD CELEBRATION! Last month, a little party took place in Sines, as the divine lumberjacks finished the 20th timber yard so far. WAR! After months of inactivity, Lord Smygelfh finally sent a squad of warriors to assist in the war against the Nameless alliance. He proudly declared: "Noone can defeat GOD. This will show them!"
