MEPBM: Gencon Report From: webguys@lakenet.com (Jeff Dobberpuhl) Date: Fri, 15 Aug 1997 00:00:00 +0000 Hello all: Gencon was a great time, once again. I managed to spend about a half hour of my misbegotten youth at the GSI booth, asking questions. Here they are and the answers. (Stuart was one of the 'attendants' and I forget the name of the other fellow). 1) Does the One Ring have legs? It depends on the game. In 1650 it stays where it starts until found and dealt with. In 2950 it can definately move, depending on what starting character (I.E. Bilbo/Gollum) has it and what they are doing with it. 2) Do you have to pick the right 'tounge' for answering riddles? Hopefully, no. They have a 'list' of correct answers, and variants on them, depending on racial variants. However... 3) Do they catch ALL the variants? Absolutely not. While it wasn't stated exactly, they suggested that most 'non-name' answers should be caught by them if in 'English' (i.e. Sun). 4) Do all encounters that ask for "say one or two words" have an answer? No. Some encounters have NO CORRECT RESPONSE!!! How many and which is left for game play to decipher :) Interestingly enough, they said that if a player came up with a result for such an encounter they had not thought of (and it was appropriate enough), AND THEY CAUGHT IT when keying in the results, they MIGHT consider making modifications based on that answer. AAAARRRRGGGGHHH. 5) Why can't artifacts be randomized for abilities in 1650 and 2950? Contract obligations with ICE and Tolkien's Estate. That's one of the reasons for the 4th age scenario. Finally, HAS ANYBODY SOLVED THE "TO MANY IT IS FATE, BUT TO OTHERS IT IS HATE" RIDDLE YET? Lemme know!!! (I'm guessing Silmarils!) Jeff webguys@lakenet.com Referenced By Up
