War & Peace PBEM Tourney From: Bryan Jackson Date: Mon, 25 Aug 1997 00:00:00 +0000 Hi All First off, I wish to apologize to everyone who has had to suffer through the rough start of the tourney. The round of play hasn't moved along as smoothly as I had hoped, due to various factors... - a few players dropping out, - some different interpretations of rules, - different speeds of play, - me getting a new computer (and losing some data in the transfer between 'puters, etc...), - me changing residence, - and my ineptness at running this thing for the first time... <g> I sincerely hope the difficulties you have encountered so far don't deter you from finishing/continuing play. Anyone who has been unjustly inconvenienced will not be adversely affected by these events. You will be able to complete all rounds of play... Because of the above, I'm writing this letter to get commitments for the next round (including new players), obtain the status of the remaining first round players, and see who has yet to be assigned an opponent (those of you whom your opponent dropped. I know you'd rather play a game (it's what this whole thing is about) but if you truly desire, you may declare a victory by virture of the tourney rules. It's up to you). Please send a msg indicating your status/intentions, etc... Also, if it wouldn't be too much an inconvenience, please resend the result of your matches (who you played and who won/lost) so I might verify them with what I have. I anticipate the next round starting fairly soon, depending on the turn-around of your responses. If you do not respond you will not be scheduled for the second round, so please do so ASAP if you wish to continue playing. Here's the scoop on the first rd of the W&P PBEM Tourney. As I have it now, we've completed 7 of 12 matches (34 players started but due to no shows and drops we're down to 24 players). Six of the seven completed matches used the 1805 scenario, and the Non-French player won every one (so far). The other completed match used the Marengo scenario (from the General V26 #6), and the French won. All other of the started matches are using the 1805 scenario as well. A final recap of the first round will be sent after it is completed (as will the AvalonCon tourney recap for those of you who have an interest and couldn't attend). Remember, just because you lose a round, or start the tourney late, there's still a chance you could be crowned the PBEM Champion of War & Peace (whatever ego beneifits this may have is strictly up to the winner! <g>). If you know of any one who wants to play please have them write to me so I can send the tourney outline to them. As always, please send along your suggestions, comments, etc... Take care. Bryan Up
