Starting with the next turn, a unit will need to have one Amulet of True Seeing per man to block a unit with a Ring of Invisibility. This had been my intention initially, but somewhere along the line I got confused. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Grayson, Grand Marshall, The Dark Legions (7) wrote: ********************************************************************************************* *All visitors wishing to Visit the Dunster Continent please contact me at kgrindst@inlink.com anyone not contacting me first will be removed. ********************************************************************************************* Note to Grayson... THE BLACK MOON ------------------------------------------------------------------------ A Report From The Northern Front The pigeons were mostly in, the ring and dbow boys always got thier reports in last, but it didn't matter that much. The 2nd CN Diversionary had its new orders. The reward for a job well done is another job. The copy of the Times that the pigeons brought was good for some laughs, at least. Pinpa thought the war was over, and somebody wanted to know whether a faction was better off with mages or soldiers. A faction was better off with allies, and wars don't end in the colonies. The General looked out at the streets of Clatter. They were pretty empty this morning, nothing but a body or two. Most of the five hundred Minstrel taxmen had died in thier barracks. Looked like the foe had been completely surprised, they'd never gotten a shot off, wiped out to the last man. Once the preliminary reports were in, new orders had come down. Pillage it all, draft some vikings and take those vikings in the town next door out. The armor those guys had could be salvaged, and there'd be some good use for those portals they were carrying. The General grimaced a moment. Stupid of him, to move the reserves in there without support. The hundred odd men lost in Dunmanus were the only blot on the 2nd's victory. Still, the rest of the troops seemed happy enough. Odd lot these Atlanteans, nothing broke their morale but hideous losses. Look at the 1st CN Diversionary, they'd been literally starving to death, but they'd fought to the last man, even though every one of them had known that this was just a sideshow, that the whole three years of war in the north was nothing but a giant diversion, had been from the first battle. First Glin, that was the only battle that counted in the whole bloody war, and it was just a sham to hold the 70's fleet off long enough for the scouts to get the ten rings out of town. Once the scouts delivered those rings to the dbowmen, then you could hear the 70s howl. If 70s had come in set to kill, they'd have taken half of the rings, and the rest would have gone down the sewer, but they'd stopped to pose in thier ships and make the big declaration of war. The was all the edge the garrison had needed. It was clear from the start that UNCLE couldn't win in the north. The 70s were a short sail from thier homeland, with mithral arms and armor, and ships full of troops backed by mages, while the UNCLE troops had little trade support and no mages at all. Hold with what you have, every battle nothing but a delaying action, hold on a little longer, keep the arms and armor tied up fighting here, keep the 70s focused here, thinking offense and not defense. The General unclenched his teeth and took a deep breath. That was over now. He walked out to address the men. They were a hard lot, vikings, barbarians, orcs and dwarves from the hills. Even the elven bowmen looked pretty mean. Mindless violence, Sun Tzu had said, well these were the boys for it. They weren't likely to survive to see the end of it, but the 2nd Clueless Newbies Diversionary Army knew it was beginning at last. The rumor mill was busy this morning, you could see the look on their faces, they'd all heard the news. The General grinned an ugly grin and picked up a torch. The balrogs were in position at last. It was time for a little barbeque. -Clueless Newbies ------------------------------------------------------------------------ >From Hell We were wrought... Under UNCLE We serve... The 70's We destroy... In the end, We will prevail... - Excerpts taken from Balrog chants heard in the plains of Derwent ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Black Hawk Society Good enough, I did not see any unknown scouts in Little Eden. @end ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sven, the messanger reports that our new venture is off to an excellent start. Thank-you Gilles, we shall hold a banquet in honour of the news he bears. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Clan Myhkul (347): The Duke would be pleased. Finally the Phelani Mercenary Company would have some of the silver it needed. Soon the coffers might be full. Then they would be able to provide the cohorts with the advanced training and equipment that life in Altantis required. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The recruit dropped his trousers and squatted, but an unholy bellow scared out of him that which he had meant to do in his own good time... "Here you!" screamed the R.S.M. "What do you think you're doing?" "Who me?" he asked, wincing in pain from his ringing ears "What do you think I'm doing? I'm having a..." "You're not back on the farm now!" hollered the R.S.M. "We don't do that in the open here! And stand to attention when you speak to me. What's your name?" "Elfian of Abernethy" answered the recruit timidly. "And say 'Sir' when you speak to me. Now get a shovel and take that.." indicating the offending brown object "..and dispose of it." "Dispose of it? Sir?" he asked, obviously perplexed. The R.S.M. rolled his eyes and pointed to small hut on whose door there was a silhouette of a man, and the recruit suddenly broke into a broad grin. He hurried off to find a shovel, scooped the thing up and carried it to the hut. He paused at the door, examined the silhouette again and chuckled. Somehow he had thought Pinpa lived in some far distant land, but there was no mistake. The face on the door looked exactly like his picture on the "Know Your Enemy" posters. The R.S.M. watched as the recruit hurried to do as he was told. The elves from the outlying provinces seemed to be getting dumber and dumber, but at least this one was keen. In time he would shape up. If only our allies leave some 70's left to fight... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Chosen of Cthulhu (40): Sun Tzu and Khan step up to the glowing gate in Riggenthorpe, the UNCLE mage says "NOW" and eighty high elves run through the gate. Tzu, Khan and half a dozen entities that could only be sensed not seen follow through the gate. Tzu's ears pop from the pressure change as he steps through the gate into the heart of the 70's territory. The temperature and humidity are much lower here, this is a place he could get use to. Khan says, "Gate weight is at a premium, why did we bring those eighty high elves?" Sun Tzu beings walking away from the gate, "That is something only experince can teach you. Just watch and you will see." The gate opens again and three balrogs from Riggenthorpe step through followed by their controling mages. Everything is going according to plan. Pity the 70's got bored trying to destroy an uncle gate outpost and waiting for our fleet. One would think they would have learned what a distraction was. Didn't they even read the Rommel saga? The real war is just starting now. Tzu looks around then shouts "Oswald?" A disembodied voice says, "I'm right here. I said I would get back on schedule didn't I?" "Take off your ring so we can talk." "No way, not with those things around," says Oswald, no doubt gesturing invisibly toward the balrogs. "Don't worry about them they're under control. Now what have you got for me?" Oswald appears placing his ring in is pocket. He then hands a list to Tzu who looks it over. "Hmm, enough captured goods from the 70's caravans to equip and army." The gate flares and three more balrogs step through. Suprized Oswald puts his ring back on and disappears. Tzu passes the list on to Khan and says, "Here is your first task, build an army." "I'll need funds to build and suport the army." Tzu hands Khan a credit slip, it has many zeros on it. The gate flares again and yet three more balrogs step through it even Khan begins to get nervous. "Tzu, are you sure about this?" The gate flares again, but this time only one balrog steps thru it. "Oh, I'm sure ten balrogs will be more than enough for the first wave. If you recall 70's invited us to a hellfire barbaque, we brought our own hellfire lets go find something to cook." * * * Next week, one hell of a barbaque. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ deus ex machina alliance accepts new players this turn we are interested in war-trade factions we can give a hand in your development honest !!! already a couple of satisfied customers! Paulo, Parrot-Man of The Tribe (123) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dear: Pinpanikaye, King of the Minstrels. Regarding your claim: *************** '70s WON THEIR WAR AGAINST UNCLE *************** You have likely won the battle up North, but the war is far form over. How do you like your Crow?? Your facts... - but we killed them all this turn (~1500) with only ~200 casulaties on our side. You are forgetting the army which is pillaging one of "your" cities this turn. - We came with ~800 troops on the coasts of an enemy territory and sent half more in reinforcements. Your 800 troops were level-5 comb and xbow with mage support, UNCLE's were 5000 lower level producers who tried negociating wtih you to no avail. You decided to attack because your proximity allowed for a mis-match favoring the your skilled mercinaries against two UNCLE factions alienated from allied support. - UNCLE got completely wiped out from our disputed area, I believe any area you hold, has become "disputed". - They might strike back one day, but I won't wait that long. Some day soon you might be using the command : RESTART and you won't have to wait too long GONNA MAKE YOU SAY UNCLE :-) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Up
