The Orphanage From: September Virgin <mouse@network.ucsd.edu> Date: Fri, 07 Nov 1997 00:00:00 +0000 Very simply, this game is set in an old fashioned orphanage where the children seem to be serving time for unspecified crimes. The young here are between ages ten and fourteen and find education as well as religious and educational guidance within the orphanage walls. The Orphanage is a world unto itself. When orphans grow too old, they leave out the front door. When orphans are adopted, they leave out the front door. No one ever goes out the front door and returns except for the post officer and the police when they are called. This game has the potential to be very violent, very ugly, or rise into beauty transcendent -- whatever the players want. Anything can occur, it's an almost systemless game being run by September Virgin and myself. Apply for a character who is an adult supervisor or a youth, aged ten to fourteen. Either way, you're new to the Orphanage. You had no life before and do not bother sending me information about your days outside the Orphanage. This is the beginning and the end of all time. The Orphanage is the world. Characters have five abilities (Perception: intelligence, dexterity, and agility; Imagination: as you might guess; Elan: emotional wellbeing; Health: physical wellbeing; and Appearance: how pretty you are -- remember PIEHA) rated at five grade levels (A,B,C,D,F). All players begin the game with the same possessions (everything else confiscated at entry), the same schedual, the same clothes. It is a true prison society. People have been murdered and have vanished, both young and old. Don't describe your history, but do describe what you look like. The story shall commence as soon as you create your character. Come play with us. The Orphanage is now open. Up
