So, you have 2 weeks to do your orders for that turn. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Talk about singe Lady Mara's beard! But don't forget her hairy legs... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Due to the senseless violence of the Grey Wolf Clan the faction Monks-hood is now withdrawing. Congratulations on completely and without provocation spoiling another faction's game. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Chosen of Cthulhu (40): Oswald's assassins were to few to assassinate all of a group of ten tactitions and the armies were to evenly matched for the direct approach, but Sun Tzu smiled anyway. There was more than one way to skin a dragon, he thought. In this case Tzu had lured the ten tactions out of Arezzo by attacking a faction member just out side the city. The majority of the army being of a different faction did not repsond to the cries for help and as a result all ten tactions where easily slaughtered. Sun Tzu was now ready for his assault on Arezzo, a city only four ocean regions away from Graevbygd. He was returning to the old ways to give himself more of a challenge. No mages would be used and only equipment captured from previous battles. Unit (27912) attacks Unit (21778) in forest (45,67) in Corinth! Next month, Tzu thought, would finnish off the few survivors. He began to wonder if the 70's were even attempting to fight back now. No longer do they boast in times about their inital victories as even in that far gate colony they are in retreat. Will the 70's mages come out of hiding and counter attack or will the entire alliance just fade away? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dateline Derwent - April, AD 7 ------------------------------ The ominous red and black banners of the DDT wave over the ruins of this once-proud city. Great black crowds of vultures and other less-savory scavengers circle the smoke-blackened towers and gorge themselves on the bloated corpses of the city's former occupants. The only living creatures in the streets are the DDT orcish terror guards and the huge (now well-fed) rats rooting through the putrid remains. I hear Col. Grayson's deep chuckle echoing off the walls around me as he observes the last of the prisoners being blinded, hamstrung and cast naked out the city gates. Spring is well-enough advanced that they aren't fortunate enough to freeze to death overnight. Instead, they are doomed to a lingering death by starvation or thirst. I cannot watch any more. I must flee this horrid place before I am detected and slain. I send this on my last pidgeon in a desparate hope that someone out there will honor the memories of the slain overlords of Derwent. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Deus ex Machina alliance is currently accepting starting players. Deus is one of GALE alliances. We can offer training for mages (very, very violent training), silver, weapons (the sharp and pointy kind) and lands to exploit (a little soft underfoot). We expect commitment to the alliance (although you can do whatever you want) and participation in the GALE wars (fun!). We are particularly interested in players who want run primarily war factions, fully supported by the rest of the alliance. Please email: jim@jberry.demon.co.uk ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Chronicles of The Tribe A decision was made: We are going full trade. The CEOS had finally overthrown the mages. This is the beginning of a new era for the Tribe, an era of greed and capitalism. Gee, that sounds bad, doesn't it??? Paulo, Parrot-Man of The Tribe (123) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Gilles, how about another game of fish? But Sven, I never seem to win at that game. Ok, if you don't win this time we'll try another game. Ok, Sven. Here, I will be the dealer. Sure Sven. There we are, seven cards each. Now put down your pairs, threes of a kind and fours of a kind that you have in your hand Gilles and I will do the same so we can get started. Ok, Sven. Let me see... a pair of Jacks, a pair of fours and three nines. I think that I have won! Why yes, you have Gilles. Here you deal us another hand... -'Da Fish ------------------------------------------------------------------------ BRD Industries (155): Blue War News Operation Hammer Judged A Complete Success! AIF Headquarters announced this week that the alliance's latest offensive, Operation Hammer, was a complete success. In a three month operation, AIF armies drove IPC troops from the area around the tri-cities Penhalolen/Lurkabo/Drymen. The IPC brought about eleven thousand troops to the party, including some fearsome-looking orc units, but they were no match for 7500 AIF troops (and dragons). By abandoning some of their comrades to AIF vengeance, about 1000 IPC troops managed to flee back to their closest stronghold. Total AIF losses exceeded 5000, but they have already nearly been replaced. The full power of AIF factions is now being mobilized against the IPC. In the wake of this great victory, AIF commanders are moving swiftly to consolidate their position in the PLD region. A treasure trove of captured IPC equipment is being put to good use arming AIF soldiers. IPC's Western Offensive Stalls In Formby, a town not far from the PLD region, another IPC army awaits slaughter by AIF troops, after they extended their advance one region too far. This IPC army employed two STAL mages, and was very successful against AIF forces. From initial contact, several turns back, this army pushed north, slaughtering many thousands of AIF troops before it. But now winter has come, the IPC cannot support its advance, and fresh hordes of AIF soldiers will open a counterattack this month. Bad Luck, Or Just Bad Karma? Reports from AIF sources tell of 2 IPC Stealth 8 assassins meeting swift and painful deaths. In one incident, a STEA 8 assassin had his head bitten clean off by a pet dragon during an assassination attempt. The dragon refused to comment on whether IPC assassins taste just like chicken. In another, IPC eagerness to kill worked against it when the hostile S8 assassin jumped on a local trade unit, only to be surrounded and squashed by AIF soldiers. I guess you could say he had a bad attitude. IPC dodged a bullet in both incidents, because neither of the Rings of Invisibility fell into AIF hands. Then again, I could be lying. ----- Some general game-related comments: I like the Times. Read it every week. I am one who did not respond to the unofficial poll. I think there is life left in this game. Calls for A4 are premature, IMO. However, as I am also getting close to renewing my subscription, I would appreciate some public comment from Geoff about his future plans. I would like to see any such A4 have a different theme than the current hack-and-slash, D&D world. A Modern, post apocalypse theme would be interesting, as would a 19th Century setting. Magic becomes Technology. Mages become Scientists. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Up
