Dynamic Games Newsletter From: dynamic@zip.com.au (Peter Read) Date: Wed, 21 Jan 1998 00:00:00 +0000 Dynamic Games Newsletter G'day Players, January 1998 Ok, time for a Dynamic Games update. This is being snail and emailed to a lot of players. Unfortunately, some past players might be missed. Please check to see that your mates have received a copy. If you are an email recipient and wish to be removed from my list, please send a blank email with the subject of remove. Hopefully, you'll be removed from my main list. A quick update on Dynamic Investors. Nothing exciting happening. The outstanding loan is dropping down quite nicely and this year the rent should almost meet the loan repayments. We've had a few expenses lately, but nothing drastic. More detailed news for the investors when the AGM report is out. The outlook is still good. I have an alternate domain name - what else but dynamic-games.com. You can send email to peter@dynamic-games.com if you like. My new web site is being constructed (http://www.dynamic-games.com). Have a look, but there's not much there yet. The main item is the Dynamic Bonus Plan which will interest all players since it means free turns. If there are any budding web site creators who want their name preserved for posterity, you might like to select one of the pages and see what you can do to improve it. I know very little about html, and must thank Mark Woolrich (http://www.hellcrown.demon.co.uk/) for a lot of guidance and motivation. Back to Dynamic Games. Pbm has slowed down in Australia and I am concentrating on email. The only PBM games available are Quest, Balance of Power, and Magelords. BoP and Magelords are only available to Australian players. I expect both to start in February. BoP should become an email game this year. I know I have been saying that for a while, but my life style is improving - I'll be back to full time pbeming very soon. Balance of Power (BoP) is a WWII style game and will have an enhanced startup with more resources to enable you to buy reasonable armies. Turn fees are $7 - 10, depending on the number of maps you have and orders you enter. It does not have an email option - I just haven`t had time to complete it. If you want more information, don't hesitate to contact me. Magelords is a fantasy / conquest style game with around 20 players. Can be a little slow, but with an email cost of $2 and a snail cost of $4, you shouldn't complain. It will have a 7 day turn around unless we have all email (Australian residents only, sorry) players in which case it will be 4 days. Snail players can fax their moves in. I will make the map a lot smaller this time, so there will be serious combat a lot earlier - within 10 turns I expect. Iron and Steam (I&S) is a game very similar to the computer game of Railroad Tycoon, which I love. The email game isn't particularly popular, but we will have enough players to make an interesting game. I'll make this map a lot smaller too, so we will be forced to have rate wars to get sufficient commodities. Cost is *free* for email (since I am trying to attract more players) and $4 for snail (since there is a bit of work entering orders and mailing out results). Email players *must* send me a set of dummy orders using the ISVIEW program. This is to show me you are able to play the game. There's nothing worse than playing in a game when half the players drop out in the first few turns. It may be awkward for you to get started, since the help file leaves a lot to be desired, but if you have problems, don't hesitate to write. The Dynamic Bonus Plan, that a lot of you will remember has been reintroduced. It is a means of rewarding you for introducing new players to my games. In the past, some players have been playing for free because they introduced a lot of players. For more information, have a look at my new web site http://www.dynamic-games.com. The Keys of Medokh may now be played by email. In fact, that is the only way I will be running it. It still needs some tidying up to enhance the appearance and I haven't written the accounting routine either. Apart from that, everything works just as it did before. I'll have a lot more spare time in the near future and will be enhancing KoM, so I'll need some input from you. Now for the turn costs. Turn cost is $4 a turn, or 10 turns for $20. If you don't have credit, you don't get a turn. Sorry about that, but in the past, there have been too many players who took advantage of my generosity. If you want to play, you must be prepared to join in the discussion of what needs to be done to the game to improve it. A lot of things have been fixed, but there are still more needed, and in particular, the magic routine, which does not exist. And finally, Quest. I have been doing a lot of work on the game lately and made several improvements. We have several new orders including Buy Quantity, which allows you to buy a specific number of items - very useful for torches. HA to Hand All - useful if you have had a good dungeon exploration. TS to `own' a town and receive an income', Bribe Assassin (yes, you can now hire them to kill another character), RE to Replace Equipment - yes, equipment does wear out, SB to buy a shop - yes, any party may own a shop. B 98 allows all mages to buy items. A few more things are being worked on at the moment, but unfortunately, time is a major problem. If you want the latest rules, have a look at my original web page at http://www.ozemail.com.au/~pbm I have a special offer to all old, current and new Quest players for the month of February. If you introduce a new player or start a new party, you will receive half the number of turns the new party pays for. If they pay for 10 turns in February, you receive 5 free turns. If the new player then introduces a new player, you receive nothing but the offer still applies to them. This is ONLY for February and the credits are applied to your current parties. Make sure you tell me what is happening or you might not receive your credits. All payments are added to your Dynamic Bonus Plan. Regards Peter Dynamic Games. Box 707. Dapto. NSW. 2530.
