The French took no overt action. However, two regiments of the King�s German Legion died painful deaths when someone put arsenic in their flour ration. More French Woes The Kingdom of Berg attacked the French held Rhineland with 30,000 cavalry and 95,000 infantry. The French defense was sufficient to hold off the attackers, then to harry them as the Berg army, originating from Saxony, forced its way through to British Hanover. The French lost 30,000 men, and the Berg army lost 67,500. The path taken by the Berg army is said to resemble a charnel house.T he Duke of Berg announced: "The people of the Rhineland, as signatories to the minor nations defense pact, appeal to all the other members to send aid to th e small countries bordering the French Expansionists. It is a war we did not b egin, but one we must end."The French ambassador was heard to remark, "And w ho attacked who�s country first?" Russians Conquer Georgia In a bitter campaign which lasted all year, the Russian army forced the Georgi an Khan to pay homage to the Czar. There were several battles and several times Russian advance units were ambushed in the mountain passes but it was all for naught as their inexorable advance brought them to the walls of the capi tal which soon succumbed to the mighty Russian artillery. The Russians cl aim losses of 16,000 men against opposition which never exceeded 8,000 ca valrymen. They blamed their bloody victory on the terrain and poor condit ions of the region. The Ottoman - Egyptian War Heats Up A force of 25,000 Ottoman infantry made their way down to Egypt where they were met by a defense of 75,000 infantry and a like number of cavalry. ThEgyptian defense held with a loss of 2,500 men. The Ottoman army lost 5,000 me The Egyptians also had a public hanging of a suspected spy amid. Merchants aradvised that there are several Turkish ships reported to be lurking off the yptian Mediterranean coast, attacking ships leaving the port of Alexandria. Rome Falls to Neapolitan Army The city of Rome fell to the King of Sicily after an advance by 20,000 men swept aside all opposition. The Pope fled to France as the King of Sicily had himself crowned King of Italy in the Stine Chapel. There was much rejoicing. Danish Civil War Continues The Exiled King attempted another landing escorted by ten Ships of the L ine. They were intercepted in the Skagerrak by six warships of the Pretender�s fleet. The French Brigade of 2,500, although victorious, suffered so many casualties, they were disbanded and the survivors sent to other units. London: King Randall organized the King�s Austrian Legion out of 10,000 Austrian volunteers.Poland: The King organized two regiments of lancers. Portugal: Jason, heir to the throne of Portugal, was crowned king. We hope for an enlightened rule. Russia: The Czar�s road building program continues. Sardinia: Built a University and school system. Silesia: The Prussian government subsidized large scale iron production. Switzerland: The Civil War continues with the issue in doubt. Venice: The Dogue hosted his annual "marriage to the sea" festival. There was much rejoicing.
