Warlords 3 - pbem - newsletter From: "ondaderthad " <harlquin@mpx.com.au> Date: Sun, 15 Feb 1998 00:00:00 +0000 WARLORDS NEWSLETTER 26 JANUARY 1998 -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Only three (3) positions vacant in monster1 game number 10 The are for yellow, light blue and dark blue. This will be a large long slow monster game. with maximum difficulty. Including random turns. no peeking in stacks or cities, etc except for the blind map. We all have seen it anyway. >HERE IS A LIST OF QUESTIONS FROM PLAYERS: Dear Gerard I have looked at my first turn, and there are some things which I/the rest need to have explained. 1) What is the turnaround for this game ? Do we just make the turn and send it when we have time or feel like it or is there some time limit for each turn ? >I DON'T PUT ANY TIME LIMIT. I THINK MOST PLAYERS ARE EAGER TO PLAY SO THEY SEND THEIR TURN ASAP. BUT IT'S UP TO YOU AND TO YOUR OPPONENTS AND/OR ENNEMIES. I COULD SET UP FAST GAMES AND SLOW GAMES. LET ME KNOW. 2) You should tell all players that they MUST have a password, othervise players will be able to look in the turn of other players without a password. >YES IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO ENTER A PASSWORD ON YOUR FIRST TURN. DOES ANYBODY LOOK AT OTHER PLAYERS TURN??? I DIDN'T THINK SO! I did not realize this first when I accessed the turn, so I did not chose any. Can I chose one any AFTER I have ended my turn ? Othervise I will just have to do it when I get the next turn and hope no one has looked. >YES YOU CAN ENTER A PASSWORD ON TURN TWO. 3) How many reloads are each player allowed to have ? >THE GAME RECORDS AT LEAST ONE RELOAD PER TURN. AND I HAVE SEEN A PLAYER DOING 17 RELOADS IN TURN 2. And what do switches mean ? Is that if I look at another players turn ? >I AM NOT SURE ABOUT THAT ONE. ANYBODY HAS ANY IDEA?? At later turns it might take quite some time to make turns, and therefor it might not be possible to make it in one go and reloads will be neccecary. NO BECAUSE YOU CANNOT SAVE AN EMAIL GAME. IT SAVES ITSELF WHEN YOU CLICK ON THE NEXT TURN SHIELD. But on the other hand reloads can be a way to cheat, as you can rerun battles or moves which went poorly (of course the whole turn has to be remade, and thereby all other things will be affected as well even though they went good before) . Therefor you have to define a max number of times you can reload your turn, which each player must keep within. I think two loads of the turn would be fair (that is one RE-load, as the first of course is the one where you access the turn first time). >IF ANYONE WANTS A LIMIT ON RELOAD PLEASE SAY SO. I DON'T PERSONNALY USE RELOADS. BUT... After I have made, saved and send my turn, can I then later (with good consience) look at my turn again fx to check certain info (knowing that my reload will go up and that it of course is the turn before I made my moves)? >I THINK SO. THE RELOAD NUMBER GOES WITH THE FILE YOU SEND. And I then assume that there is no way of seing ones moves again, before you get the next turn ? I accessed, made my turn and ended it. Thereafter I experienced with the reloads to see if the game was secured against cheating, meaning that my "reload factor" now is at 3. But this data can hardly be on the turn which I will send to the next player, as that file was saved after the normal "1 reload". The other two times I accessed the turn I did not end the turn (and thereby not save any file). So it must be something saved within the program and only saved to the file when I end the turn, true ? But this still prevent any cheating as you must end the turn at some time and thereby all times you have accessed the turn untill then will be printed to the next player !!! But what about looking at other players nations on turn one (where no passwords have been altered) ? If the first player make his turn, end it and then one by one open and finish all the other turns he will see where all other starts and their armies + revealing hidden parts of the map. This info will of course first be something he can use on turn two as he has already made his turn, but still the info is accessable. >PLEASE REFER THIS ONE TO SSG OR RED ORB ENTERTAINMENT FOR THEIR NEXT UPGRADE. In the future I would suggest that you set up passwords before you start any games (if that is possible), and thereby eleminating this way of cheating. >I WOULD HAVE TO RUN TURN ONE MYSELF WITH UP TO 8 RELOADS. AND THEM YOU COULD NOT CHOOSE YOUR HERO ETC.. Last, is the game enhanced ? I find my armies quite powerful compared to what I'm used to in normal games. I can see that this also counts for the other players. But in both my cities all 8 of the available troops types can be produced in only one turn. Normally powerful armies takes 2, 3, or 4 turns to produce. Is this something you have altered for all players or is this a part of a enhanced bonus only for me ? If it counts for all players there is now no strategy in chosing army types in centers. You always choose/bye the most powerful you can can efford. SOME GAMES ARE ENHANCED. BUT THE ENHANCEMENT IS RANDOM. YOU GET EITHER MORE MOVEMENT OR STRENGTH OR PRODUCTION ETC.. SAME FOR THIS ONE PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU DON'T WANT THIS FEATURE. ALSO IT LOOKS LIKE I HAVE TO SEND A REPORT ON THE GAME STATS WITH TURN ONE. LIKE MAP SIZE, NUMBER OF TOWNS, SITES, RUINS ETC... ALTHOUGH THIS INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE ON LINE. LOOK IN THE "BOOK" MENU AND FIND "ABOUT SCENARIO" "SIDE LIST" SEE INSTRUCTION MANUAL PAGE 64 TO 67. I ALWAYS CHECK EVERY REPORT BEFORE STARTING MOVING ANYTHING. ANY QUESTION? SEND THEM IN. if you want your name off the mailing list or if you want to stop playing please send a message to harlquin@mpx.com.au but who would you want to do that?
