Anyone want to help start an e-zine? From: Bob Barrett <send@nomorespam.neo.lrun.com> Date: Fri, 20 Mar 1998 00:00:00 +0000 The subject of the proposed e-zine is creating imaginary worlds. If that interests you, keep reading. My name is Bob Barrett, and I'm working with several teams of creative people who are developing games. They are scattered around the world, and we keep in touch by e-mail. Some games are strategy, some are role-playing, most involve the Internet. Most of us have hopes of selling a manual or boxed game some year, or running an e-mail game for enough profit to upgrade their computer with. I sent a similar invitation to each of them, and now I'm casting the net wider through these newsgroups. Just this week, I got in touch with an Internet publisher who has very attractive rates for hosting electronic magazines. <http://www.darktimes.com/virto/rent.htm> He is open to the idea of hosting a commercial PBeM connected to an e-zine. Other places like GeoCities will give you free space for home pages, but don't allow you to advertise or sell anything. Here's my latest dream: start an e-zine dedicated to creating imaginary worlds, and call it something like Virtual World Building. It will be oriented to game designers, role players, authors of SF/fantasy, people interested in the interactions between cultures and their environments, and avid players of computer games like Civilization II. I fit in all 5 categories. Anyone who has read this far probably fits in 3 or more. Who else wants to join this new project that we all can benefit from? I envision a forum where we can discuss our projects and learn from each other's experience, and where aspiring designers/artists/writers can go for friendly advice. As I see it, a public forum on the Internet is the way to go. If you are worried about someone stealing your ideas, you don't have to publish them. But it seems to me that the limiting factor in the production of new games/novels/Hollywood movies/whatever is not the shortage of original ideas, but the time and effort needed to complete the project. Do you want to join me in creating a new e-zine for World Builders? Alone, I don't have enough time and energy, so I'm looking for help. Feel free to copy this message and forward it to any of your friends who might be interested. And if you know of an existing web site in this very specialized area, please send me the URL. Maybe someone is doing this already, and I should go join them. I'll be gone from my computer from March 22 to the 28th, so I'll be looking forward to reading your responses when I get back.
