Well, I like the game.  It's stood the test of time and continues
to grow, campaign 23 having recently started.  There is a very high level
of player diplomacy, and the rules are clearly written.  It is highly
historical in character -- most campaigns begin at 1000 A.D. and work
toward and through the Reniassance toward the modern age -- and the pace
of the game is a good one:  you can accomplish things in a fairly short
time, but usually you can't get wiped out too suddenly unless you have
created a large number of enemies who can work together in secret against
you.  There are elements in the game which tend to give small countries
advantages that big countries lack, and to give big countries that small
ones don't have to deal with, while still rewarding success in worthwhile
ways.

There are good positions open in relatively new games such as
Lords of the Earth 22 (now in its second move) or a bit further along
such as Lords 12 (at turn 12).  For that matter, there are openings in
games whose turn numbers are in the hundreds.  If you are considering
trying the game, this is a good time to choose.
