HeeDra officials called for a halt to further shipments, stating that future transports from the UEF or Saurian Alliance may be subject to piracy within the borders of the Eastern Alliance if they continue. "We can not, and WILL not assure the safety of ships of nations aiding enemies of the Alliance. We consider these shipments of weapons to the Kontairu a grave threat to our security, and we will respond quickly to such threats." Officials of the Saurian Alliance told GNN that no weapons were shipped to the Kontairu Union, but stipulated that the shipments did not include weapons. "We are not stupid," one Saurian official said. The Unity War has continued for the last six months or so, although no fighting has been reported recently. EASTERN ALLIANCE OFFERS SOLUTION (Game 1, Turn 11.5) ALPHA C (GNN) Talks between the UEF, the Saurian Alliance, and represenatives of the Eastern Alliance ended today with minimal progress on various issues placed before them by recent happenings in the galaxy. The Eastern Alliance offered to grant non-Alliance ships passage through Q'Tez territory enroute to Swarm-held space if the Saurians and UEF would cease "weapons shipments" to the Kontairu Unity. Although no formal agreement was reached by the end of the first round of talks, officials on both sides of the table agreed that they were close to a solution. KELDRIN JOIN ALLIANCE (Game 1, Turn 11.7) PYRUS (GNN) Represenatives of the Eastern Alliance announced today that the Keldrin Holdfast has agreed to join the Eastern Alliance. The reclusive Keldrin apparently made contact with a HeeDra scout mission and fisrt-contact measures on both sides were readily exchanged. When asked by reporters why the HeeDra contact went so differently from the first-contact with the Machine Empire, the Keldrin represenative stated, "The machines were intruding upon secondary territory of the Keldrin Holdfast. We met the HeeDra while exploring and claiming territory for ourselves." The Keldrin have agreed to recognize all HeeDra claims to the sector in which the two races met, and the HeeDra scout quickly offered the Keldrin membership in the Eastern Alliance. Obviously, while the Eastern Alliance poses signifigant threats to the Machine Empire, most political analysts see the entry of the Keldrin as a rebalancing of the scales of galactic power, which had been becomming more unbalanced with the Kahs/UEF/Saurian/Kontairu alliance. The Eastern Alliance played down any threats against their neighbors. "We have no quarrel with the Machine Empire or the UEF and their allies. No actions whatsoever are planned in these areas. The Kontairu Unity denounced the statement as utterly false, stating that the Unity War continues. "We expect that the keldrin will enter the war unless something is done." The Keldrin did admit to the destruction of a Machine Empire scout which was exploring previously unclaimed territory. "The offending ship was within our claimed secondary territory and such intrusions will not be tolerated." *** *** *** GNN NEWS REPORTS *** *** *** -- Greg Ellis Ellis & Company Publishing Antioch, CA Up
