They were betrayed by a Venetian agent and the defenders were waiting for them with a division of Tuscan infantry. The Sicilians lost a brigade, then withdrew to their ships. British Blockade ContinuesThe blockade of Spain�s Atlantic coast continued. British agents sank another Spanish warship at anchor. The Pope appealed to the British monarch to end the blockade "for the sake of the children." Spanish auth orities insist the only reason the blockade continues is the British mona rch�s insistence on punishing Spain for resisting them. "Portugal�s whole. The British have all our colonies. What else can they want from us?" They appealed to the nations of the world to unite against "British imperialism and global domination." Chinese Battle Mongols . . . The Emperor dispatched an enormous army against the Manchurian warlord, 350,000 infantry and 55,000 cavalry. The warlord mustered 43,000 infantry and 25,000 cavalry for a battle on the plains south of Mukden. The warlord was defeated and driven north into Manchuria, harried by the huge Chinese army in pursuit. In Manchuria the warlord was reinforced by 25,000 green recruits and again gave battle and was defeated and driven north across the Amur river into Russian territory. The Warlord lost almost 60,000 men. Chinese sses we estimated at 82,000, many from disease.A tribal uprising in Ulan Bator was brutally crushed by the local garrison, 7,500 Chinese infantry. . . . and DelhiThe Emperor of Delhi dispatched an infantry and a cavalry corps into Turkestan where they were engaged by five Chinese cavalry divisionsThe Indian forces were repulsed with the loss of two divisions. The Chinese st a cavay division. Catholic Delegation Visits Jerusalem The Pope and Cardinal Flange visited the holy city of Jerusalem under Turkish protection. They inquired into the well being of the various monasteries and the keepers of Christ�s empty tomb. A mass was held in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. The Pope used the opportunity to ca for the powers of the wo rld to embrace peace and end their "petty squabbles." Dutch Balloon Race Held The annual Balloon Race was held this year in Holland. Teams from Austria, the Ottoman Empire, United States, Kingdom of Vietnam and the therlands attended. A fine time was had by all. The Dutch balloon team, in mating orange uniforms made a splendid lift off and gained an early lead whic h thenever relinquished. They were followed closely by the Turks and Aust rians, whosballoons jockeyed for position behind the Dutch. First one and then the other would surge ahead in the gusty air. Then they became entang led. Witness� say that the Austrian balloon was in the lead when they both crashed. The two teams were lt seen engaging in fisticuffs on the ground near their deflated balloons. The Kingdom of Vietnam took second place with the US team, in a red and white striped lloon with a blue basket, a dist ant third. Papal authorities have endorsed Saint Barbara as the patron saint of lloonists. Foreign Dispatches: Algeria: Turkish cavalry probed the south ern border. They were dispersed by two divisions of Algerian infantry dis patched from the capital. Cincinnati, Ohio: The Federal Government established a fort to control the Ohio River valley. France: The government began construction of a railroad from Paris to Calais. Japan: Crazed Samurai attempts assassination of the Emperor over the end of Samurai subsidies. He was beheaded by Imperial guards. Karachi, Pakistan: The Indian navy was born with the launching of four ships of the line. Korea: Expecting attack, Korea began fortifying its border with China. Nepal: The King agreed to an alliance with the Emperor of Delhi. Philippines: Civil disorders reported. No one is sure who is in charge. Sumatra: The coast was ravaged by piracy again. Vienna, Austria: The Austrian government established a cannon foundry to increase military production. Western India: The prince sponsored a boat race. The sixth Sikh�s ship sank.
