Goblin PBeM! From: deathpinch@aol.com (Deathpinch) Date: Mon, 25 May 1998 00:00:00 +0000 -Battle of the Goblins- "Battle of the Goblins" is an easy-to-play PBM allowing you to transform into a goblin, fighting, questing, and searching to become the King of Goblins. Sound fun? It is! -Basic Stuff- Goblins are varying creatures, and are different from race to race. Strength represents warfare, and brute force. Agility is maneuvering and dexterity. Intelligence is use of magic and strategy. -Goblin Races- You are allowed to pick one race as a goblin. Ruby Goblin-Warlike and grumpy; natural fighters. Live in caves. STATS: 3 Strength, 1 Intelligence, 1 Agility. 10 HITS. Sapphire Goblin-Very intelligent, weak; natural wizards. Live in towns. STATS: 1 Strength, 1 Agility, 3 Intelligence 5 HITS. Emerald Goblin-Very agile; natural thieves. Live in forests. STATS: 1 Strength, 3 Agility, 1 Intelligence 5 HITS. Silver Goblin-Fairly agile, fairly intelligent; make good thieves or wizards, but not fighters. Live in open fields. STATS: 1 Strength, 2 Agility, 2 Intelligence. 5 HITS. Golden Goblin-Fairly strong, fairly agile; make good fighters or thieves, but not wizards. Live in small remote huts. STATS: 2 Strength, 2 Agility, 1 Intelligence. 5 HITS. Onyx Goblin-Fairly strong, fairly smart; make good fighters or wizards, but not thieves. Live in holes in the ground. STATS: 2 Strength, 2 Intelligence, 1 Agility. 5 HITS. -Goblin Classes- You are allowed to pick one class as a goblin. Note-The class you pick should be based on the race you choose, though it doesn't have to be, but it would be stupid of you to do anything else. (ie...Say you pick a Sapphire Goblin. Then you should choose to be a wizard.) Fighter-uses strength and warfare to win. Strength is prime. Wizard-uses illusions and attack spells to win. Intelligence is prime. Thief-uses maneuvering and trickery to win. Agility is prime. -About Fighters- Attacking BASIC ATTACK-compare target's agility to attacker's strength. If strength is greater, 2 damage is done. (this attack takes 1 turn). If same, 1 damage. CHARGE-compare target's agility to attacker's strength. If strength is greater, target suffers 5 damage. (this attack takes three turns and requires a mount) Defending EVADE- Runs away. (this takes 1 turn) -About Wizards- Attacking (no comparing is done for wizards...their spells hit automatically). ZAP- 1 damage done. (takes one turn) FIREBALL- 3 damage done. (takes two turns) Defending SHIELD- (as dodge, except instead of comparing for a thief's agility, do the magician's intelligence). EVADE- Run away. (takes one turn) -About Thieves- Attacking BACKSTAB- compare target's agility to attacker's intelligence. If agility is greater, 2 damage is done. (takes two turns) Defending DODGE-compare attacker's (whatever check was made, say a fighter charged the thief, it would be strength) to thief's agility. If thief's agility is greater, 1/2 damage is taken away. If lesser, nothing happens.(takes no turns) EVADE- Runs away. (takes one turn) -SAMPLE OF WARFARE- (this is how it would come from me). You are Panj, silver goblin thief. (STATS: Strength 1, Agility 2, Intelligence 2. HITS 5) Your life in the forest is peaceful. Life is all around you, thriving. Day to day is pleasure. As you are resting by the lake one day, you hear something in the bushes. A kobold appears! STATS: Strength 2, Agility 0, Intelligence 0. HITS 3. Panj backstabs! Agility 3 vs Intellegence 0. 2 damage! Two turns. (since Panj's backstab took two turns, the kobold will now do two basic attacks while Panj is recovering from his backstab). kobold attacks! Strength 2 vs Agility 2. 1 damage! One turn. (Panj could not dodge because the kobolds strength is the same as his agility, for him to dodge his agility must be greater.) kobold attacks! Strength 2 vs Agility 2. 1 damage! One turn. Panj backstabs! Agility 2 vs Intelligence 0. 2 damage! Kobold is slain! The kobold had: 5 gold Panj's HITS: 3/5 Total gold: 5 See? Combat *is* simple. -CURRENCY- Gold can be used for a variety of things. First, if you're injured in battle, like our friend Panj was, you can get healed for 1 gold/per hit, but not past your hit maximum, determined by your race. Also, you can buy equipment from traders. Traders are only seen if you have allied with a nearby race. Better equipment can raise your stats. -OTHER RACES- Example of Panj's encounters with the gnomes. After the battle, Panj gets healed by the goblin healer and cured of your wounds. HITS: 5/5 GOLD: 3 You head back to your house, when a short ugly figure pokes you with a short sword. "Yargh! Wot is this green thing? Grob, get over here!" Another short figure appears. "Hmmm. Goblin I'd say. Silver, too." "Goblin eh? Hey, goblin, would ya like ta help us out here?" Panj replies, "With what, and just who are you folks?" (Replies will be limited to IM's, or short emails.) "We're gnomes, silly, and we own this forest. Anyway, we need help clearing out these kobolds." "Yeah, got attacked by the little buggers just today! This forest is infested." "Then it's settled. Arrive on our settlement tomorrow." Panj heads over to the gnome camp and is greeted heartily with traders. Available Goods: Assassin's dagger/10 gold/add 1 damage to backstab. Boots of Speed/30 gold/add 1 agility. Thus, the alliance is formed. Panj serves the gnomes in clearing out the kobolds. -RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER PLAYERS- Other players exist as goblins too. Mostly, you'll be playing against these players and try to destroy them. Remember, your goal is to conquer the land of goblins. Others, however, might want to ally with you. Some might simply want you not to attack them, and in turn, won't attack you. Perhaps others might want to adventure with you, and help you rise to power. It is possible to win goblins as a team. This PBM is currently run and moderated, and modified at will by- deathpinch@aol.com This PBM was created by Nate, reached at- yelloworc@aol.com I played in this PBM when he (Nate, yelloworc@aol.com) ran it, I was a yellow goblin thief named Deathpinch Doomthwack (thieves are emerald now, that's just one of the modifications I've made), and it was lot of fun. He abandoned it because he got bored with it...but he left it so whoever wanted to continue it may. I chose to continue it. But, I did make a few modifications. Hope you like it!
