It does not even have to be from the correct planet - a route from
any planet of your own planets will work.

Actually it is more trivial than. The route can exist from ANY planet
to that planet - it does not have to be from the originating
planet.

So one can send 3 ships with colonies from the same planet and have
them unload it on three unowned planet - as long as one have two
other planets who also can set up routes to two of those planets.
