Simplifying Galaxy

IMHO, being able to design to design your own ships is part of what
makes Galaxy so fun.

Here is my list of things to remove from Galaxy:

- resources, raw materials etc.

The resource level of a planet doesn't matter all that much, unless it
is _very_ low and it complicates everything.

- the complicated cargo formula. (... in some versions of Galaxy)

Cargo capacity = cargo space * cargo tech.
You really don't need more than that.

- industry.

Production capacity = population.
Industry is a nice concept, but not really needed if one wants a
simple game.

- Ships with multiple attacks.

Mixed feelings on this one.  Multiple attacks is a nice feature, but...

- Automatic misses.

Every had your planet bombed by a single ship sailing through all your
defences like they weren't there?  I have, and it almost scared me
away from the game forever.  The idea is to attract new players, no?

The hit chance doesn't have to be big, even a one in thousand chance
will give a moderately sized planet defence a good chance.

Like almost everybody else, I'm not about to volunteer as either
programmer or GM, but I hope somebody else will look at this.
