I agree that a scripting language would be extremely useful, and would
make the game even more fun.   No more having to labouriously probe
all planets... write a script once and each turn ships are send to
all the planets you want to monitor.

The question is though, should this scripting be in the Galaxy Engine
or in the Galaxy Viewer program?

I can imagine that the scripting language could also do an analysis
of you current situation.  If the scripting is in the Engine, you
have to email your script and wait for the reply.   If the scripting
is in the viewer you can do it all interactively.

This is from a email I got from Andrei Jirnyi:

"[snip] this version called Galaxy Viewer (GV), it includes a battle
  imitator, built-in macro language, filters (you can easily do such
  thing as, say, building a list of all military ships that can reach
  planet xxx in 1 turn), or calculate any function of the enemy fleet
  you want (say average defence of all shielded covers). Unfortunately
  it does not run under NT (it works fine with w95 though), [snip]"

This viewer is for the russian variant of Galaxy (called G+), but
it also seems to handle Galaxy reports with a few modifications.

We (Jacco van Weert, Andrei Jirnyi, Tommy Linquist, and I) are trying
to organize a two game challenge between us and G+ players from
Russia. (See the posting with as title: "-- Invitation for a special
galaxy game --") If you join you could get some experience/ideas with
scripting/G+.
