-- Invitation For a Special Galaxy Game -- From: slothoub@cs.utwente.nl (Frans Slothouber) Date: Thu, 25 Jun 1998 00:00:00 +0000 Hoi, This is an invitation to join a very special Galaxy Game. A while ago there was a posting about a very big Galaxy Game that ended in Russia. Jacco van Weert followed up on that and got in contact with the author Andrei Jirnyi. It turned out that Galaxy is very popular in Russia. They play their own variation of galaxy (based on standard galaxy) and have a very good galaxy viewer (GV) that comes complete with a scripting language. (they have their own news group relcom.games.pbem, though most of the postings are in Russian). (From what I have seen they even organize events where they meet in person). They thought it might be a fun idea to organize a big game. A game between them, the Russian galaxy players, and us (players of all the galaxy and variations thereof). Sort of a game between the best Russians and the best players from the rest of the world ;) So they turned to Tommy and me. After some discussion we came to the conclusion it might be the best idea to have two games: A Galaxy(ng?) game and a Russian Galaxy Game. That way we all get to experience what the other game is like, and might even get ideas to improve the game! With this email I am trying to determine how much interest there is for such a game. If you are interested send an email with as subject tiger to galaxyng@wit393403.student.utwente.nl You will be added to a list of possible players and will receive info about the games, tools, and other stuff (as soon as it becomes available). If there are enough people interested I expect the game to start within a few weeks. We still have to agree on a few things: o the number of turns per week, o the victory conditions. So if you have any ideas on that follow-up on this posting. And join this challenge! Have fun, Frans. -- ( Frans Slothouber, Centre for Telematics and Information Technology ) ( http://wit393403.student.utwente.nl/~galaxyng ) Referenced By Up
