Brandon, this entire subject should *never* have been posted
to rec.games.programmer.  I'm not familiar with the other
groups on the thread to know whether it was appropriate or
not to them.

I realize that you consider rec.games.programmer a community that
you are in, and you wanted to invite the members of that community to
participate in an activity you were involved in.  However, this
is largely inappropriate (read the sections of news.announce.newusers
about how you should post to the appropriate groups so as to
assist readers in seeing what *they* want to see).

The entire waste of bandwidth can and should be laid at the
feet of the initial bad crosspost.  There's nothing personal
here; I consider you a nice guy, but I consider this entire
subject matter an irrelevent crosspost.

Here's how you could have done it without getting flamed
very much (modulo the fact that it's still inappropriate in r.g.p):

1.  Make the initial post to all of the groups.
      Include a pointer to a web page (and encourage
      people without web access to send you email).
      Set the followups to a single, most appropriate group.

2.  Put your FAQ on the web.  Mail it to interested
      parties.  Maybe post it to the one above group,
      assuming it is sufficiently on-topic for that group.

And I've always disputed your usage of this.
Getting in the last word and *then* saying "EOT"
